My experience with American Remodeling started at the Corvettes of Carlisle show where a…read moresalesperson gave me a flyer for discount. We had been talking about remodeling our main bathroom shower for years, and finally decided to pursue the job with this company. We thought "Bald Nick" as he called himself, was a fairly good salesperson, and so we signed a contract with the company thinking we were going to get a great product, a good construction crew (not subs but their own staff) and we would be thrilled with the outcome. Well, the crew was great and did a very professional job all the way through. But what we ordered and what we got are night and day, and we totally are disappointed with the end result. We talked about a white base for the shower, but then I told "B. Nick" that no we wanted it to match the beautiful colored walls that we chose. We needed to look at the fine print on the contract. And the crew worked with the door closed, bringing items in from the garage to the bathroom so we didn't see the white base until the walls were all installed. We ordered a rain drop glass shower door that would open wide like our previous door so at our ages we could be prepared for a shower chair and wheelchair access at the outside of the shower. No, they didn't tell us they didn't have it and the crew began to install a sliding clear glass door that would have been horrible. Luckily we caught that just after the installed the metal rails. They took the rails out, filled the holes so they could still be seen, and left after a conversation with the York office team. And the crew told us our door couldn't be ordered and we'd have to accept what they had. No way for a job that cost over $20,000!!! So the Corporate contact said yes the door could be ordered, and we would have it within a week. We have another shower to use so that was not an issue. But then the company had the crew drive almost 2 hours to go to Lowes, pick up a shower bar, shower curtain and clips to put in our shower for the week until the door appeared. Low and behold the door we got has the raindrop but it is not a wide door, but one on swivel hinges and extends almost a foot into the shower itself when it opens. Again, not what we were presented when "B. Nick" was selling us the product, not what we saw in his materials, and not what he guaranteed when he looked at our old shower set up that we would have in the new door. Another "bait and switch" contractor, another very disappointing experience. Do we like what we have now..... of course as it is an improvement. Do we love what we have now to give a five star rating to this company? Absolutely not. Beware and check every piece of materials you believe you have ordered before it gets installed. Again, our installer crew was fabulous. But it was not what we ordered, and not what we wanted in the end.

Bell Valley Contractors - Bathroom Before and After

    Bell Valley Contractors

We hired Bell Valley Contractors through an Angie's List Big Deal: $1499 for 40 hours of labor…read more Jed and his employee arrived an hour late to tile our home to tile our basement which was 740 sq feet. After 10 hours, they left for the evening and about 2 hours later, my husband and I went down to see what was finished. In those 10 hours they were able to lay 300 sq feet of ceramic tile. However, it was unprofessionally and improperly laid. The chalk lines they snapped to line up tile, were never even used. The grout lines were not only misaligned, but the they were not even the same width. There were many areas where the cement squeezed up between the tiles so it looked like parts were grouted. A few tiles were not level with the rest of the tile. This wasn't a case of minor differences when installing tile, they were major misalignments. We were able to get a professional tile installer to come to our home that night to evaluate the work and address our concerns. The professional tile installer, with 30 years experience, showed us the chalk lines and explained where Jed went wrong and why. He also advised us that all 300 sq feet of installed tile was done incorrectly and would need to be ripped up and replaced. The next day I spoke with Jed, who initially told me that once he grouted, the tile would look perfect. He said that I was not a professional so I had no idea what I was talking about. I then explained that an independent tile installer evaluated his work and explained that it was all installed incorrectly and unprofessionally and why. Jed said then at that point he wanted to refund our money and walk away from the job. I told him to walk away from the job, but we were holding him legally responsible for the damage he caused to our property. There were a barrage of emails between his wife and I. In the end, they say they stand by their work and refuse to refund our money nor pay the damage they caused. I have many photos and videos of Jed's work that proves the tile was improperly installed. I refuse to pay Bell Valley Construction to damage my property, so we are forced to sue them to recoup damages as well as the money paid through the Angie's List deal. They claim I broke the contract by not allowing them to fix the damage, but they have never offered to fix the damage. Jed broke the contract by stating that he was walking off the job. They also refuse to pick up their equipment at our home. Initially they demanded that we deliver their equipment to them, which we refuse to do. We have invited them to retrieve their equipment at any time and they have refused to do so. Bell Valley's advertisement here states : "Bell Valley has the motto of "Do It Right the First Time" and we deliver penny for penny " is not correct. They did not do it right the first time, they were proud of their unprofessional work, then they 'walked away' from the job promising to refund our money. They then find a way to blame a disabled woman for their shoddy work. Photos and video of the work in our home speaks for itself and we are happy to share it as proof with anyone who asks. They feel they are entitled $750 for ruining our new tile and it's ridiculous. They owe us a full refund, plus the tear out and tile replacement we incurred for their 'work'. We also found out that Bell Valley Contractors never registered their fictitious business name with the state of PA as required!!
