Hickman Field is one of the good fields in San Diego county. This facility has 5 base ball fields and 4 soft ball fields. The fields are nicely maintained by the team. One of the ground staff, Tom, was very active and doing his maintenance routine, he was very efficient. The fields are in great shape, outfield is nicely trimmed, outlines are defined, fences are in great shape too. Dogout is spacious and seating are for fans are good shape. Also they have multiple batting cages. Now let's look at the issues we have. Most of the in roads are either dirt or old asphalt road. Parking might get tight during the tournaments. Only porta potty available, use it on your own risk. Location is convenient, right along the same road as REI and Roadrunner. Lot of good places around, over all nice location and great fields.

Parking is tough during a tournament weekend so arrive early as you will park on the parking lot- not paved. The restrooms consists of port a potty so find a restroom before you arrive unless you are the adventurous type

My son's high school team had their first fall season game here. I've passed this field quite a few times, but now had the chance to see it first hand. This is the home base for the North City youth leagues. Their are a number of different fields for different sized kids all with grass infields that I could see. I saw a bunch of softball players headed to the back area of the park, so I can only assume there are softball fields back there. I didn't have a chance to explore to check it out myself. Anyway, the field my son played on was nicely groomed. St. Augustine High plays their home games here, so I'm not sure if they pay for maintaining the fields or not. Possibly share the costs. Parking is plentiful, but just beware of foul balls flying out from the field of play. I heard and saw a few cars getting plunked during the time I was there. It also has a dirt parking area so if you just washed your car as I had the previous day, stay away! Keep on Yelp'n!

The parking is terrible with dirt and old asphalt road. This is hidden in a commercial area and no local places to eat within walking distance. They usually have tournaments here for soccer and baseball. The hotel to stay at nearby is the Marriott but fills fast. Best part is food places are in a fair distance away by car and the location gets good sea breeze so not as hot as others

Parking is bad most of the time

I would recommend Surf, City SC, Legends/Sharks, Rebels, etc. over this club, especially considering they cost the same. The coaching staff here preaches family and commitment but the culture here is anything but that. The coaches care more about winning and collecting a paycheck than they do about player and team development. Their game philosophy is nothing more than kick the ball up to your most athletic players and hope they score a goal. Very little ball possession and working the ball around the field like they teach at an elite club like Surf. I encourage you to watch a high-level Surf game and compare it to a high-level Albion game. The culture here is toxic and breeds bullying, which the coaches reinforce. Don't believe me? Check out any one of their GA practices unannounced. There is no positive reinforcement, just your child hearing a lot of cuss words, name calling and finger pointing...most likely a reflection of parents and coaches. I don't believe club soccer is a good investment for college but if that's your goal, check the list of colleges these kids are committing to. It's not impressive. The final straw for me was when my kid went down with a concussion near the end of the game in a meaningless tournament (which the coach was hell bent on winning but didn't) and NOBODY, not the coach nor one teammate, came over to check on her to see if she was OK (the bare minimum of being a decent human being). She got sent to the trainer by the ref and the team left. If that's the "culture" you're looking for then by all means, waste your $10k+ Glad we got out when we did, their teams are falling apart.

He was exceptional with the girls. He was perfectly tough on them and engaging. He took brief moments to teach them about the game without losing their interest. Even my daughter said that she had the best time. I look forward to seeing how both my kids continue to improve their game with DMCV Sharks led seasons!

However, my negativity isn't for the usual reasons: it's not about playtime, wins, nor field positions. Instead, I'm angry at MYSELF for being naive and loyal to a hodgepodge of snake-oil salesmen and buffoons. My daughter squandered far too many years at the woefully misnomered "Sharks". DMCV is a small-time club with the perpetual dream of competing with the big boys in town and utterly failing in their attempts. Unsurprising, as success is next to impossible when an organization has absentee leadership, disorganized management, and abysmal coaching. And by placing shockingly under-qualified teams in a league like ECNL, the club's only recent accomplishment has been to embarrass themselves and crush the confidence of players. Soooo - if you long for a club with inept staffing, zero player development and deflated athletes, then you've found the perfect fit with DMCV!!!

Coach David came highly recommended by her club coach and we've been very impressed by him. He has helped her improve her shooting and technical skills as well as coached her through the mental side of the game. What really sets Coach David apart is that he truly takes the time to get to know each player and find out what makes them tick both on and off the field. He came to several of my daughter's club games to see her in action which really helped build trust and foster a stronger relationship. When I asked my daughter (unprompted) what she liked about Coach David, this is what she said: "I like the way he talks to me... the conversations we have really help. He is really encouraging" Coach David is definitely worth the investment in your child's mental & technical game!
