Have a 2012 Prius with A/C issues. Spent 2 hours jockeying cars and rides around to get them my wife's Prius first thing in the morning and get to work on time. I get a call 6 hours later and they tell me that they don't have the tools to run a diagnostic on the car. You would think that when you tell an auto shop or mechanic on the phone the year/make/model/issue of a car, they at least know if they can help you or not instead of wasting a huge amount of a customers time. I went here for several years for major and minor repairs. Got good service and price. Then, Tai started getting greedy and fixing things that didn't need it and his prices went up. Then. I went in there for an oil change. I had him order the filter in advance because it is a rare item. Got to the shop and he had ordered the wrong filter. I sat there for FOUR HOURS waiting for him to get the correct filter and change the oil After FOUR HOURS, my vehicle was ready. I asked the female working there for a break on the price since I waited for FOUR HOURS. She looked at me as if I'd insulted her mother. I would give 0 stars if it were possible. This place is crooked as can be. They gave me my car back in worse condition then I gave it to them. As a result, car stalled on the freeway almost causing an accident due to loss of power brakes. Brought it back to them 3 times within 3 weeks to fix the resultant problems they caused and each time they charged me more money for a "different" problem. My parents have been taking their cars to Hi-Tech for over ten years, and now that my dad works abroad, I've picked up the task of taking our cars to Hi-Tech whenever something needs repair. As a kid, I knew Hi-Tech as the boring garage I'd get dragged to every time one of my parents' cars needed repair. Now I know why my parents keep going back: After dropping off my dad's BMW at Hi-Tech this morning due to overheating problems (there's nothing scarier than driving on the highway with steam/smoke coming out of the engine compartment), I got a call an hour later from the owner telling me the radiator was broken and that the radiator fan motor had worn out. He gave me the cost to replace both parts, which was very reasonable, and I gave him the go ahead to make the repair. Four hours later, the owner called again and told me I could come pick up the car. Four hours! Without making so much as a formal appointment-my mom had simply called the day before and asked when to bring the car in-I was able to drop off and pick up the old beemer, now in perfect running condition, within the span of a long, leisurely nap. This place was great! I had a coolant leak and was frantically searching for a place to repair it. On a late Friday afternoon, no one was available. Not even my dealer. Thai will tell you if your vehicle needs something done and, more importantly, what DOESN'T need to be done. Very rare for a mechanic. If your car needs anything I wouldn't hesitate to stop by or call and set up an appointment. He's never led me astray and all the cars that I have had him inspect before buying have turned out to be low maintenance and reliable. Recently I purchased a 2004 Toyota Rav4 and had him take a look at it before we drove from San Diego to Colorado. Zero problems, car ran like a champ all the way there. I have used Hi Tech Auto for almost 10 years now. They do excellent work, are well run and Tai is completely knowledgable and explains simply and directly. He will even show you what's wrong so you can see with your own eyes. They are also the fastest shop I have ever been to. I went in to replace an alternator with no prior notice and got my alternator and water pump replaced in a little more than 2 hours. I give my highest recommendation for their services and pricing. For 3 years, I have been taking a 1998 Chevy truck to various mechanics in San Diego hoping to find a short in the electrical system that caused the truck to end up each day with a dead battery. All of them are really good, honest people, and terrific mechanics. BUT none of them stayed with the problem until I took the truck to Tai. Each time, it was the battery or the regulator, or the carburetor or something new and different. Hi-Tech took it in, diagnosed what they thought was the problem, and returned the truck to me. Very honest good work. Brought my bmw in to have the ac fixed. It stopped working about a year ago. They charged it up with freon and kept it for about an hour checked for leaks (vacuum check too). Couldn't find anything and said it might be a very small leak not worth fixing (exactly what I was thinking too). my A/C is ice cold, and I will bring it back in a year or 2 if it needs another charge. read more

We've had very mixed results here. Be cautious here. Some repairs were done quickly, accurately, and at a reasonable price. Some repairs were very bad. F250 with spark plug blown out. This is a well known problem with the Ford Triton engines. Tai said he was very familiar with this problem. I did my research and found that Ford uses hardened anodized aluminum thread inserts to repair the cylinder head so the spark plug will not blow out again. I also found the company that makes the inserts for Ford and the tooling to do the repair. The tooling is available for rent or purchase. He admitted he was not aware of this option but wouldn't even listen to the idea! I'm a 30 year mechanic myself. I know it is not easy to always offer reasonably priced repairs. When it comes to major engine repairs you have to know what reliable repair options are available. I trusted him and really believed that, if he heard of an idea that would give his customers the exact same repair that the dealerships use and warrantee, he would entertain the idea. WRONG! We got the truck back disassembled with the parts in a box and a bill for doing that. read more

Hi Tech Auto deserves 5 stars and more. Tai Dong and his all-star crew have provided me and my family the kind of service that you expect and more. Tai's service is a gem in an industry where over-charging, poor quality service and fraud is rampant. Tai and his shop provide reasonable prices, superior quality and integrity. They are willing to go above and beyond to fix any problems in a quick and expediant manner. They greet you with a smile and you feel like old friends everytime you step into his shop. I have had all my family's cars serviced at Hi Tech Auto, and it is such a relief to not have to deal with dealerships that wring money out of your wallet like water out of a sponge. This year I had to have my daughter's car worked on after failing the smog check. Unfortunately, being a Nissan Pathfinder, this required replacing "two" catalytic converters that were apiece very expensive. Tai suggested we try to find after market converters to save money. This meant that I was unable to use the car for a few months, but fortunately, we had a work-around for my daughter and it was not a problem to have the car sitting. Meanwhile, I asked Tai to look at other issues with the car and he took care of them at very reasonable costs. Tai was able to find two after-market catalytic converters that together cost me less than the cost of a single brand new. All through this time, Tai kept thanking me for my patience and I kept thanking him for his efforts to get the car ready to pass smog. Like I said .... like old friends. read more

I found out about Hi Tech from a co-worker roughly 12 years ago. in that 12 years, Hi Tech has been my ONLY auto shop for 3 cars. most of these reviews are spot-on. Ty, the owner, is simply amazing. they say you should always have a good doctor, lawyer, and mechanic, and because of Ty and his guys, i have the "trinity" now! He is beyond reproach in his honesty, and he really works to save his customers money. i have an aging toyota 4x4, and he put a new head gasket on, cleaned the head, did the valves, etc. while he had the truck apart, he called to tell me my exhaust manifold had a huge crack in it, and asked if i wanted to replace it, for the cost of the part only, because he was already in there. LOVE that type of consideration and thoughtfulness. he could have easily put the truck back together and had me back next year for full boat when it failed. i cannot recommend him enough, for peace of mind, and quality work. i send all my cars down from Carlsbad, thats how good he is! even when you chat up the people waiting in his lounge, the stories are all the same....good service, conscientious about customers money, reasonable rates and costs, its amazing. i have been on Ty and Lena to open a shop up in north county, and he could KILL it up here, but he stays focused on customers needs instead of business expansion. i wish Ty and Lena all the best, and am sure they will continue to succeed with the volume of business they pass thru the shop, they will be enormously successful. in short, take your cars to Ty, you will never go anywhere else! read more
