I just got back from HGreg Tampa, and if you want a masterclass in bait-and-switch tactics, this is your place. These guys don't sell cars--they practice what I'd call the Art of Blowing Up the Deal. I walked in after finding a vehicle listed at a reasonable $20K. Test drive went fine. Ready to move forward. Then the numbers came out--and I honestly had to rub my eyes to make sure I was reading them correctly. That $20K magically turned into $26K. Not because the car changed--because the fees did. Let's break it down: ~$1,721 in sales tax (fair enough) $500 for a license I didn't need (I have valid plates) $1,299 "Pre-delivery service fee" (aka dealer padding--easily 2-3x higher than typical in the area) $899 "Electronic Registration Filing Fee" (which many dealers charge $0 for) $198 doc fee (fine--but then what exactly is the $899 for?) And the crown jewel: $1,721 "Elite Protection Plan" -- presented as mandatory That's nearly $6,000 in added cost, almost 20% on top of the vehicle price. Pure margin creation. We tried to negotiate--nothing moved. Suddenly, what looked like a good deal became completely average at best. So we walked. Then--predictably--as we were leaving, the sales rep chased us down. Now the "mandatory" warranty could be waived. Interesting how "mandatory" disappears the moment you head for the door. But even then, the rest of the inflated fees remained, so we kept walking. Let's be honest about what's happening here. This pricing model is designed to trap less-informed buyers--especially those who may be focused on monthly payments instead of total cost. Bundling in things like a "mandatory" warranty makes financing easier for subprime buyers at who-knows-what interest rates. We were cash buyers, so the game changed quickly once they realized they couldn't leverage financing. Bottom line: Know your numbers. Know what's real and what's noise. And be ready to walk--actually, run. I genuinely look forward to the day when direct-to-consumer models like Tesla become the norm and eliminate this kind of nonsense entirely. At the end of the day, consumers have a choice. If you agree to these terms, that's on you. But don't say you weren't warned. read more

They tried to put about $6000 worth of fees and a "cosmetic warranty" on the car and refused to remove any of them. They claimed because their cars are so inexpensive they do this. It's a big scam. I did not purchase the car. Would rate them 0 if it were possible. read more

6 months after purchase, the car we'd bought completely stopped working due to engine problems. Tried to call the store we'd bought it from and spoke to a man that came across as very dismissive that didn't want to help. After my prompting he forwarded me to someone that could see if we'd gotten the warranty or not. Extension he sent me to had a full voicemail and hung up on me. I should have known better when I couldn't even reach the service department after the initial purchase to fix a couple of things that were broken within the 7 day period for repairs we'd found after purchase. Horrible phone communication from this place. Will never buy from here again or even bother to recommend them to anyone! read more

I had a very disappointing experience at HGregg due to the extreme pressure to purchase a vehicle immediately. From the moment we walked in, it felt like there was no room to think, compare options, or step away to make a thoughtful decision. We were told that certain discounts and pricing would only be honored if we bought on the spot. When we expressed that we needed time to think it over, those same discounts were suddenly no longer available. That approach felt more like a sales ultimatum than customer service. Buying a car is a major financial decision, and customers should be allowed time to process information without feeling rushed or penalized for being cautious. Unfortunately, the environment made us feel pressured rather than supported. I would strongly encourage anyone shopping here to be very clear on pricing, discounts, and timelines in writing before engaging further, and to be prepared for a high-pressure sales experience. read more

If I could give this place no stars I would. They do not inspect any of the vehicles before they sell them. I purchased a vehicle and they said they would fix several issues. It took them over 3 weeks after purchase (and i had no other vehicle to drive) and they didn't even fix all the issues! I have now had to take it somewhere to have it fixed and have paid more to fix it then I did to purchase it. I would not recommend anyone buy a car here. read more

Don't buy a car with them unless you want to give away $1598 plus tax for an add on to protect paint and other stuff not needed for the operation of the car. Example. It cover dents but not the paint for the dent. Etc. It shouldn't be mandatory to purchase an add on to purchase the car. I wouldn't recommend anyone to purchase from them . I found 3 vehicles on their website. I contacted their internet team and they confirmed the vehicles were still available so I drove 45 mines in terrible Brandon traffic on a boat Friday afternoon only to get to the dealership and they telling me the vehicles were already sold out transferred to another dealership. What an utter waste of time!! Be very careful working with this company. They only want to get you on their sales floor with a bait and switch tactic. Typical car dealership. This Dealership is one to be AWARE of and AFRAID of . I had 2 cars from there and had to return both cars due to the fact that there was NO SAFETY RESTRAINT SYSTEMS in the car. Both the seat belt and the Air bag WHERE TAMPERED WITH and they wired around the seatblets so no lights would go on.THE airbags where not working and even one car had an airbag that did not belong in that car and was so old it had rust on the connections. and it was from a Junk yard. Nothing showed on the carfax with one car about airbags. ANY CAR YOU BUY THATS BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT BEWARE!! Salesman told me if it was in an accident you DONT WANT IT.. They then Screwed me out of 3,900 by making me trade in a car what was suppose to be unwound... This car should of never came into play if unwounded and making me trade in thier screw ups , well. Wanted to share little story that happened to me today. We are in the market for a small pickup truck. Found a vehicle we were really looking for listed, through our credit union, and online, called @Hgreg Auto of Tampa to confirm the vehicle was in stock, we told absolutely sir! Make an appointment, and spent the evening getting pre-qualified. We drove over an hour, for our appointment. We were greeted cordially buy a nice young man and shown the seat at the counter. He asked for my phone number and launched into a pre rehearsed spiel about this car dealers honesty integrity and transparency. As he is talking my file comes up on screen with the vehicle I intended to see highlighted. Italian yes I'm here for that specific vehicle and I was told it's in stock and I would like to see it. He looks over his shoulder at four gentlemen sitting at a higher counter and he was instructed to tell me that the vehicle has been sold. Bear in mind I called to verify before driving 60 minutes that this car was indeed in stock. This is called bait and switch. There is no integrity or honesty in this type of behavior and I will not tolerate it. My wife was severely distressed at this sort of lying treatment we received. Absolutely terrible experience with this dealership and do not recommend it. TLDR: Price online went up by more than 5k, made me sign sketchy wording documents before seeing final price, condescending and bs additional fees. I drove 2 hours because they had a used car that was exactly what I wanted. The price online was satisfactory and the car looked and felt good. When we finally got to talking about financing it went downhill extremely fast. They added bs additional fees that they absolutely REFUSED to remove and we're almost unverifiable (e.g interior anti-bacterial coating and exterior paint protection had absolutely no warranty). Before seeing the final price they had me sign a bunch of legal documents with shady wording (they were flabbergasted that I wanted to read every document in detail) and made me wait more than 2 hours to speak to the financing manager. They also refused to let me leave and come back after grabbing something to eat saying I would lose my place in line. They took my precaution personally and tried guilting me into just signing and not questioning the wording of the documents. At the end of the day the price online went up more than 5k. Let's start with all of the hidden fees and markups . Took an $11,000 car to $17,989 . Dealer fees and MANDATORY add ons . they tried to sell my son on an " Elite protection plan"that was supposed to be for the protection of dents and painted surfaces for nearly $3,000 that was nothing more than them detailing the car before sales ( which , by the way THEY'RE SUPPOSED TO DO !!! ) . DISHONEST and SLEAZY! The fine print on the website states an additional $1299 and $899 in fees. I called to confirm the vehicle was available and out the door cash price (minus taxes and license). I was told it would be the advertised price plus the 2 fees. I took a day off work drove an hour to the dealer to be told by the manager that it had an ADDITIONAL mandatory paint and interior warranty for $1600! I told him I was not told that on the phone. We thought we made a smooth transaction I had given a review with 4 stars as Many was a great salesperson. At this point I would give zero is possible. This was actually our 2nd vehicle being purchased through them. However, it is now 17 days after, we put money down, traded in a vehicle, purchased a vehicle through HGReg AND DO NOT HAVE THAT VEHICLE IN OUR POSSESSION. The car had a few issues that my son noticed during the test drive that they stated they would have their service department look at and have fixed as a "we owe you". So after we signed papers they let us drive off and stated the "service" department would call us to bring back in. I have had to be the person to contact the service department EVERY STEP. The next day they never called until I contacted my sales person. Then the vehicle would not start, attempted to have on a trickle charge for an entire day and the battery would NOT hold a charge. We had to JUMP the vehicle to drive it back to HGreg for them to "service" . Then we were informed as one of the issues may be transmission related they had to take to the Ford dealer because they could not diagnose, which Ford informed yes, there is a transmission issue. HOW does their website boast "All of our vehicles undergo a multi-point inspection and spend more than a week being reconditioned before becoming part of our inventory" and yet this car gets past them with a bad battery, bad squeaky/grinding brakes AND a transmission issue? How do you do a multi-point check if your service department does not have the correct diagnostic tools? Or better yet, you had to send this vehicle to ANOTHER shop to service the transmission b/c your shop cannot service it? DO NOT BUY FROM HERE UNLESS YOU HAVE A MECHANIC WITH YOU !! I have a son who is having to catch rides to and from school and to work EVERYDAY and all I keep getting is pushed aside and only told its not ready yet, they are running behind. 17 days and going...... Though the sales team individuals are generally friendly, helpful, and as honest as they can be given what they have to work with, the subsequent upcharges and mandatory "handling" and service fees for stupid things you don't need (i.e. $1,500 in MagniShield bullcrap that ultimately ruins your windshield) adds unnecessary thousands to their misleading enticement list prices. Their in-house financing also tends to be a couple percentage points higher than it should be in a more competitive lending environment. Post-sales service, sympathy, and support are virtually non-existant. Their car inspection policy failed me terribly when they sold me a Kia with a 9-degree rear misalignment thst ultimately cost me 4 new tires after an unexpected blowout three months later in the middle of nowhere. In short, hidden, mandatory and stupid markups and price inflexibility make this car shopping experience a dud. H.Greg needs to revamp their sales model. I will never return to them as a customer. H Greg states "At HGreg.com, we stand behind the quality of our vehicles and want you to be completely satisfied with your purchase" and I let them know less than 24 hours after purchasing the vehicle that it had a list of things that I noticed wrong with it. They had my car for almost a week and I got it back and it was still making the same noise as before and they are refusing to fix or do anything else about the noise continued to hear because according to them, they could only replicate it once "and then refuse to tell me even what is causing the noise other than repeatedly telling me that it's not a safety issue, but won't tell me what the grinding and creaking noise actually is. They refused to tell me why the statement on the website says " At HGreg.com, we stand behind the quality of our vehicles and want you to be completely satisfied with your purchase" but now they are telling me that it's only referring to the safety of the vehicle, not if any repairs are needed that aren't safety related, which at this point I don't trust as their website also states that " All of our vehicles undergo a multi-point inspection and spend more than a week being reconditioned before becoming part of our inventory. Our cars may have a history, but they have nothing to hide." But yet I immediately became aware of a major issue less than 24 hours after purchasing the vehicle that turned out to be a bent axle. How does a car get a pass with a multipoint inspection and be reconditioned for over a week but a Bent axle was not discovered until I brought it to their attention, and I am not even a mechanic? That should have been discovered BEFORE I BOUGHT IT!! They're also refusing to wait for me to come in tomorrow to replicate the noise for them, only if I do it today before 5pm but I don't have the ability to do that due to not having a ride there because they have my vehicle. Do you realize that I was sold a vehicle with a bent axle that you failed to observe during your "multipoint inspection". ?!?! That means your judgement is impaired at best, non-existent at worst, which means a second opinion could be life saving, depending on what else you've missed. Do the right thing. Be better. Came in here to check out 2 vehicles that I saw online. Was greeted by Emely super nice and helpful she got me all registered and gave me all the information I was looking for with the car I wanted to see. Man within minutes she brung the car around took my Info so we could I could go test drive the car. While in the vehicle she was very knowledgeable, friendly and accurate with information. While I test drove the car her staff took my car to get an appraisal to see what I could get for my trade in. All that was done when I got back inside. Diago the manager Yeahhhh that guy he's freakin great hands down along with the finance guy .. they worked my deal so smoothly and efficiently!!! I am here to tell ya they literally did their thang!! Did I mention I drove my car home tonight ... I sure did they were not letting me leave without taking her home. Super impressed with this place and trust me what they did tonight I'm making sure everyone knows how great of an experience I had here. PLEASE READ, BEWARE. My conscience made me write a review to help the next person. Shop around, call for their fees additionally to price tag, do your homework and know your car values. First car drove like it was going to fall apart. 2nd had shaking issue. Last car was okay with brake replacement needed but do not buy a car here, over priced and rip off. 11,000 became 6000 slap on top, tax and plate I get, even dealer fee, but mandatory service fees. Don't let them talk you into buying their car with their no choice services. If you're selling a good car you wouldn't need these mandatory services. They sell cars with issues to be able to sell with their services which I just read other reviews and after buy poor service with car breaking down. Sales man was nice and professional, I hope he finds another place to work. Than again, excellent service to get you to buy. Poor service thereafter. They can't trick this momma who's had 20+ cars in 30 years. Thank goodness this happened because we found an excellent car the next day for my son with an honest dealer. We bought a suv from them and the tire was bad and we told them about it before we left, they said since you purchased the tire protection package give them a call and they will fix it. I called them and they said had to wait 60 days for it to go in effec. I called after 60 days and they then say nothing is covered Prior to 10/31/24 because we purchased the vehicle on 8/31/24. I called the dealership and spoke to the general manager he was NO HELP at all and no customer service so will NEVER DO BUSINESS with them again read more

My first time coming to HGreg and I was looking for a used car. Upon arriving I was greeted and was asked if I made an online appointment. I hadn't. I was told no problem I would be assigned to a sales person. I mentioned the car I wanted to see and I was told it wasn't available to be seen because it was in the service dept. I asked about similar models and was literally told to go out to the back lot and find it myself or look it up online. Seriously!? I went to the back lot to look around and not once did a sales person come meet me. I went back inside and everyone up front was ignoring any waiting customers and congregating around chit chatting. I walked out and no one noticed or called (I gave my number upon arrival to "check in"). Their loss, I purchased a vehicle elsewhere. Also, the selection was varied but the condition of the vehicles was AWFUL. Don't waste your time or money here until they can clean up their act. read more

After calling on a car from out of state and leaving 4 voicemail messages, I still never received a call. I had to call again and lie saying that I lived in state in order to get a sales rep's attention. FYI, they charge roughly $3500 in FEES! Like are you kidding me? Yes, most, if not all dealerships charge fees, but nobody charges $3500. It's absolutely insane and stupid. This is not a dealer they are a used car lot and perform as such. They ran 12 apps for my car, 12 hits to my credit, then put me through hell to prove my wages. Charged me 1250.00 dealer prep, but yet nothing was checked out in my camaro, many issues when I got hm ,even a frayed main belt, didn't notice till after p/u and looked, 1/4 tank of gas, how cheap can u get? And had to ask them to wash is upon delivery, they suck, worst car buying experience of my life. read more

The window wouldn't go up before we even drove off the lot, the battery died multiple times in the first couple of days, the seat had items jammed in the track so it wouldn't move forward and now they're refusing to fix a crack in my windshield. DO NOT SHOP HERE. HGreg IS NOT ACCREDITED BY THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU. It all started out fine. I saw the car I wanted took it for a test drive and went thru the loan process. Ana the sales associate was nice during this process. After I got the keys and was ready to drive off, Ana asked me to give her a 5 star google review. I said sure. When I was on the road driving home, I noticed the gas was on empty. I did a u-turn and went back to hgreg. It was really strange the staff didn't want to let me back on the premises. Ana finally came out and I asked her why she didn't put gas in the car like she said she would TWICE. She said she would have to ask the manager. I told her if they didn't put gas in the car, I would change the review. Diego, the manager, comes outside looking like he's ready to fight me. He accuses me of threatening his employee by telling her I would change the review. Ana had the keys to the vehicle so I am stranded at this point. Diego goes back inside with the keys and says he's not doing business with me, even tho I already bought the car. I had 2 choices go inside and make a scene or call the cops. I called 911 and told them the keys to my car were stolen. About 15 minutes later I go inside and Diego finally gives my keys back. The car still has no gas in it but I just wanted to leave at this point. The next day it rained and I discovered the trunk, which is where the battery is, was flooded and the audio in the car stopped working. There was also a coolant leak. They sold me a dud. I just bought a 2020 Camaro SS from the Brandon location. I didn't even get it home and the top right rear brake caliper bolt literally fell out of the wheel, damaging the caliper and God knows what else. The second bolt was only finger tight. I had my entire family in the car and I shudder to think what would have happened had the caliper come off on the interstate. I am waiting for the tow truck to arrive to take it back to the dealer. I was told the car passed inspection, however I now have significant doubts that anyone actually looked at it. Be very careful and have someone independent look over any pending purchase. Definitely don't recommend, HGreg has a 1500 dollar additional dealer fee that is a cosmetic warranty which is mandatory on all there vehicles, you cannot take it off either. I'll start with what I though would be a positive, this Biz model has gotten rid of commission sales people. But it turns out they've hired a bunch of kids who know less than nothing about cars. They have a powerpoint scrip they follow & beyond that they nothing about the car industry. Who would've though the sleazy car sales guy would be missed, but at least that person knows cars & is motivated to sell you a car. Now for the real negatives this place is basically the Chipotle of used cars sales. It's a bunch people who look they just came out of a halfway house slid on green polo & got 2 hrs training on how to read a powerpoint & scam stupid people into over paying for a crappy car. The car I finally got to see was a dirty mess & was in overall very poor condition. Lastly this place is classic bait & switch they show fairly low cost internet pricing, BUT they pile tons of fees on your buyers order. This is the second time I've been to this location visiting from out of town. The first visit a month ago I waited on a representative for two hours until I decided to leave. I decided to give it another try since I was back in town. The second visit I waited over an hour, left and grabbed lunch. I returned and was able to look at a car I was interested in. The vehicle had missing trim, all of the wheels were scratched(would have to be replaced, over $1000 for a bmw), the interior had dry hardened glue all over, you can tell that the rear bumper was repainted, a light came in on the dashboard as I was test driving. I let the representative know about my concerns and I was told the cars are sold as is and they won't fix the cars because they only make sure that mechanically the cars are in good condition only. She offered to have the detail team to clean up the glue. This should have been addressed prior to being placed on the lot. After the test drive I was disappointed with the experience and dealership. At that point I just walked away and decided to take my business elsewhere. I would not recommend this dealership to anyone. Take your business elsewhere. There's no telling what else is wrong with these cars. read more

I am well aware of your 3 day policy as Mr. Vines and Mr. Rosario continued to tell me but I told your sales person the minute she handed me the keys and told me the tire light was on...that that was not ok. I told the finance guy Kyle Palmer, 5 minutes after I drove away that the tire was not ok and something needed to be done. And on the review Mr Liar...I mean Karlos Rosario said and I quote, " I will make this right." So Ms. Brianna, please don't tell me I am trying to get something 30 days later. Possibly the worst customer service I have ever encountered at any car dealer. Smart mouth and belligerent sales people and office staff are even worse. I would sooner buy a car from a Buy Here Pay Here dealer than waste my time with these low life individuals. Steer clear and stay away.
