My boyfriend wanted the fries but I didn't mind the upgrade. It also wasn't super juicy. Some pieces were just batter with a string of meat inside and with no seasoning it slowly became barely edible. Service was excellent and it shares a spot with a bakery. I came back. Sandwich was still solid but the experience was crazy. One dude was valiantly manning all roles: cook, register, front of house, back of house. You name it. He was FRAZZLED. There was one person ordering before me, so it wasn't too busy and didn't think it would take too long to get my food. I've heard so many great things about Hey Chicken and how my friends drive up all the way from OC so I had to give it a try. They are located in Diamond Plaza and share a storefront with Duke's Bakery but there is a pretty large sign outside so you won't miss it. We knew we had to get the fried chicken but there were so many different options to pick from, grilled, fried, whole chicken, chicken sandwiches/wraps, etc. We ended up sharing the Hey Chicken Wings Box (Original), Hey Spicy Chicken Sandwich, Hey Onion Rings and the Hey Mozzarella Sticks. When the food came out, you would smell all that deliciousness and we couldn't wait to dig in. The chicken wings were piping hot, so crispy and juicy at the same time. We really liked all the different dry seasonings and sauces to switch up the flavors. The sandwich was solid as were the onion rings and mozzarella sticks. The food came out after 20 minutes and was piping hot! The skin was super crispy but not greasy, and the meat is tender and juicy. Overall perfectly fried! The chicken pieces were quite large, with the skin/breading it was very filling. We didn't get to the nuggets at all. The restaurant is bright and inviting, more than half the space is devoted to the bakery part, and there is also some fun Photo Booth thing. The chicken in this sandwich is the main reason why I docked off 2 stars. I was about 3 bites in before the filet became super stringy. I lost count how many times I had to separate the chicken "spaghetti" away from the sandwich to my mouth. It might've been a one-off thing but it was super disappointing to eat. The popcorn chicken was decent. Same batter with same flavor but no apparent stringiness. 6 pc chicken nuggets- the pictures made it look like they're the same as McDonalds nuggies and they were similar but still noticeably different to nuggie lovers. If I had them fresh at the restaurant or popped them into the air fryer for a few minutes, they would've been fantastic. We went inside and it looked like two other tenants shared the same space, so it felt like a to-go type of joint. We took our order through a kiosk. There was a cashier there, but he seemed to be more focused on his phone. We ordered a bucket, with a bunch of side orders. Everything came out to be about $75. Seating is pretty small, so we had to wait for a group to leave. We waited a good 25 minutes before we got our order. Portion sizes for the bucket was so small. We got maybe 5 pieces. And not to mention the quality of the meat was kinda gross( lots of cooked blood on all of the chicken). Not a big fan of the blood. Personally, I ate good chicken for less at other places. For the price point, it's not worth it. No coleslaw, no corn. It was basically just chicken and fries. I love fried chicken so I was excited to try this chicken place out. Hey Chicken sounded really familiar and I realized they have a location in San Gabriel as well. The location in Rowland Heights seems a bit smaller since the space is shared with a bakery and some photo booths but I think it's a smart way to utilize the space. The combo specials stood out to me since the meal comes with a choice of sides and a soda. I was recommended the spicy chicken sandwich and I really enjoyed it, pretty well flavored and crispy. The popcorn chicken and fries went really well with the cumin and sweet plum dipping powder they had. I love the powder but there is a small charge on them. Onion rings are my favorite sides when it comes to fried options so I had to order it. As for the chicken wings, they were crispy on the outside, but still juicy on the inside!
