Hex and Co is a great way to spend a few hours with friends or family. You basically "rent" a table and you can pick from tons of different board games or role playing games like Dungeons and Dragons. They have big and small tables to accommodate any sized group. You can always bring your own games as well. They serve snacks and drinks as well and it's table service so they will bring it out to you. I think there's only a time limit once it gets busy but I'm not positive. They also sell a bunch of the board games as well.

When I heard about this "board game cafe," I was intrigued by this idea! Finally got a chance to check out Hex & Co with a party of 10 and had a fun time!! You can reserve a table in advance or walk-in. Unfortunately our giant party was late so they gave our reservation away. However, staff were really nice and able to put together some tables in the back to accomodate us. They have a whole wall of board games for you to choose from. Its first come, first serve. I believe you can also bring your games but still would have to pay the flat fee to enjoy their space. They also have another section by the cashier where you can buy new board games. Drinks/snacks wise - you have savory and sweet options between larger meals and snacks. They have tea, coffee, sodas, and alcohol (ranging from beer to cocktails). I got myself a boozy tea which I would recommend if you like tea/kombucha vibes. My friends enjoyed their beers/IPAs. The whole facility was clean with several gender neutral bathrooms. I also appreciate that they open late until 12am and can accomodate a variety of group sizes. Only wish that the games were organized in some way so its easier to navigate/search. Nevertheless its a great place to hang out and I look forward to coming back!

My partner and I are huge board gamers. We love trying new games whenever we get the chance. On a trip to NYC we decided to stop by Hex & Company for some gaming fun. ***LOCATION*** On 1st Ave and E 76th st. We came to this Upper East Side board game cafe after a nice walk through Central Park. ***EXPERIENCE*** We came on a weekend and it was packed! Thankfully there were a few seats open, we were just told that a few tables were reserved for the evening so if we sat at them we needed to move at those times. They had drinks and food, but we just came for the board games. The games were all along the walls. I wish some tables weren't as close to the games because it made for awkward reaches over other guests or having to ask other customers to grab games for you. I like how they set up the games in sections like two-player or staff picks. We ended up playing a couple rounds of Patchwork. I loved that we came here because we had just bought another two player game the day before and it was between the one we bought (Jaipur) and Patchwork. They had all the fan favorite games, highly rated games, and more! Hex & Company has a great selection of games to choose from. They also have games for sale too. ***PRICE*** $10 for all you can play all day. ***BATHROOM*** I used a gender neutral stall bathroom that was a bit cluttered, but clean. ***CONCLUSION*** A very fun way to spend a weekend afternoon with so many great games to pick from. Happy we came here.

I got a medium iced Americano, which was okay. I didn't have much to rave about the taste of it otherwise. It was a bit of a wait to get my order but the barista who prepared my order was very friendly and well, there's so much to peruse in here... I'm rating this higher because I loved the idea behind this cafe. They offered so many board games and trinkets to check out-- it seems like an awesome place to hang out. I haven't stumbled upon many locations like this and especially not locations with entertainment that are not catered to drinking. I think they have another two locations in the city, but I think the only other time I've seen this kind of establishment was when I visited Nashville.. I can just see people spending time here on a rainy afternoon/night for hours and having the best time.

Such a fun place with a very helpful and friendly staff! Glad there's something different up here if you just want to get out of your apartment and hang out with some friends for a low key night playing board games. All of the drinks we tried were awesome. If I had to knock off one star, it would be for the heat situation. It was insanely hot in there, but that did not impact the service and entertainment for the evening.

Great spot for games or wfh. There are a couple food options, coffee options, and a lot of adult drinks to choose from. There is a game play fee that isn't too bad. The wi-fi here is good and strong so wfh here is defs worth it. Will be coming by again for a drink (while working) or a game (or two)!

Ask the Community - Hex & Company

Is it ok to work alone with a laptop late night (around 8-9pm) on weekends?

As I understand it, they don't allow laptops. It's about playing games, so if you're not playing a game, you lose the table.

The biggest question then became, where to go? We needed a place that was relatively easy to get to that would hold close to 100 people. Jungly was a contender for several reasons - it's location, size, vibe, and menu all seemed to check off. It also helped that I had done business with the owner previously at one of his other spots. It seemed like the natural choice, so I went ahead with the booking. Jungly is located in LIC - it's a pretty convenient spot as its close to the LIRR and the subway. Parking can be a challenge, but luckily I found a spot only a block away. The space itself is nicely set up - walking in you're immediately greeted by the bar area with dining areas both to the left and the right. Due to our size, they closed the place to the public and we were able to freely roam the bar area and one of the dining rooms. In addition to standard tables, they have some lounge space and high tops by the bar. The vibe is somewhat modern - a black/grey color scheme paired with neon and golds. It looks like the space could easily be converted to a club-like atmosphere. Since we were here for a private event, the food was set up buffet style - we chose three apps, four mains, and two sides. Ultimately, for apps we chose pita bread with dips, steak tacos, and shrimp tacos. For mains we chose fried chicken sliders, smashed beef sliders, cacio e pepe, and roasted chicken. For sides, we got fries and Brussels sprouts. In general, all of the food was tasty; the strongest dishes were the tacos, fries, and the chicken tacos. The tacos were generously filled, the fries were the crispy skin style, and the chicken sliders were nice and crispy. The weakest for me was the cacio e pepe - not much flavor and just not really a standout IMO. My communication with management to set up the event were a little staccato, though in the end everything worked out. For the most part, my communication with them was consistent in the days leading up to the event. Service the night of the event was overall good - they were very accessible but I found that they could have replenished the food a little faster in response to the rate it was being taken from the buffet. The bar, on the other hand, was great - both in service and variety of liquor available. Overall, we had a great event at Jungly. They were professional, fair, and delivered on the goods. I would definitely consider hosting another event there, or dine here on my own.

The bartender, the one person who should be welcoming and engaging, came across as rude and lacked any charisma. On a Friday night, good energy behind the bar makes a huge difference, and that was completely missing. I ordered a margarita, which is one of the simplest and most common cocktails to make. I asked for it really sweet with plenty of salt on the rim. Instead, it came out barely sweet and with almost no salt. For a $17 margarita, I expected much better. I've had to return the drink because I've had better margaritas for $12 at other places. While waiting for my friend, I had to wait with a glass of water because I didn't trust the way they made the drink. The bartender told me I either needed to order another drink or move, which felt unnecessarily rude and unwelcoming. To be fair, the food was good and the space itself is nice. However, the bar service left a very poor impression. There are plenty of more affordable places where the staff are friendly and make guests feel welcome. Unfortunately, based on this experience, I wouldn't recommend this place. Give this place a 6.5
