It's truly a whisky bar. They carry very little other spirits. They have a craft beverage menu,…read more and all ofcthem are made with whisky. I did someone get a beer and a glass of white wine. While enjoying our drinks, we got some shareable snacking food. The meat dumplings are steamed. The chili sauce is great. Nice kick! The Asian Broccoli is really good, and it is not often that this is on a starte menu. It is really more a broccoli side dish, but it really enjoyed it and how carb friendly this app is. Service is okay. You have to go to the bar to order and pay for drinks if you sit out front in the terrace tables. Inside there is food and drink service at the table. A staff person does bring the food and drinks out. I enjoyed this locals style non tourist neighborhood whisky bar.

J.D.'s was warm and inviting; a whisky lover's paradise with food to match. We ordered the chicken kaarage (BOMB) and the Japanese-aged beef nachos (WOW) along with two Rye Old Fashioneds. We followed that up with a Japanese whisky flight that blew my socks off. Service was quick and accommodating. Amsterdam isn't know for its whisky and I began to miss it during our stay...J.D.'s satisfied that craving and left a huge impression on us. Go here and spend all of your money!!!

This…read moreplace is filled with character and atmosphere, and the beer selection was maybe the best of any bar we went to on our trip. This place is a lot bigger than the prior two cafes we went to before this, though still felt cozy and intimate. The decor was great, and I loved the carpet (tiny rugs) on the tables. To drink, I ordered a Hazy Jane IPA, which was both tasty and refreshing. We ordered at the bar and grabbed a table at the back of the cafe, which was spacious and relaxing. Service was great during our time here, and prices were in line with everywhere else we had been to. If looking for a cool brown cafe to grab a drink at, Het Elfde Gebod is a great option. I would definitely recommend it, especially for beer drinkers.

This is where you need to go when you're in Amsterdam. Why? Because it's a JEWEL. Most places that…read moreyou stop off at in the 'Dam will be pouring pitchers of Heineken, and maybe one or two others. But this place has such an amazing selection of beers, you'll want to try at least one of everything (which I don't recommend, because then you'd be dead). But suffice to say, you'll never have to have the same beer twice. We stopped by here early in the evening for a few drinks, and ended up staying until they closed. A fellow traveller kept us company as we dived face first into beer after beer, and before you could say 'silly drunk tourists' we were stumbling out and looking for food. I love Belgian beers, but they're not as common in Amsterdam as one might have hoped for. Stopping by this wonderful bar was exactly what I was craving. This was also the night before King's Day, so it was a bit wild in the city. We were looking for something a little more downtempo, and so this place was perfect. The proprietor was really friendly, as well. I can't speak on the prices, because honestly by the time the bill came round I was more than a bit wasted. And you know what? Some experiences are worth paying a bit for. This is one of them.

I don't know how they even fit that small jazz band in there, but they did! Really cool place with a great whiskey selection! Don't go inside wearing a jacket though, because you're going to end up taking it off within 2.7 seconds, you're better off taking it off before going in if the place is full because I almost tore my shoulder out trying to wiggle out of my jacket. Place seemed to be filled with mostly Dutch-speaking people, didn't notice too many tourists here.

The awesome Amsterdam CM, Flip, brought us here for a quick drink and to "live like a local" before heading over to the Red Light District (more on that in another review!). It's located in a rather small street, and the space itself isn't too large...but it sure is "homey". I tried a couple of belgian beers and then something magical happened....the staff began passing around a plate of cheese and sausages (with some delicious mustard) for everyone to nibble on. No, they were not selling it...it was free! I was in shock..this doesn't happen in the bars I go to. The cheese was delicious and the sausages as well but when you dip it into the mustard it kicks it up a notch. They also had wine available (the wife said it was good! Good enough to warm you up that's for sure, as it was FREEZING outside, by our standards.) It seemed like every single person that walked in was greeted with hugs (and three kisses? I love that little touch they put on their greetings. Not one kiss like my Hispanic folks, not two kisses like the French, but THREE kisses, cheek to cheek). This certainly felt like the bar where EVERYONE knows your name!
