It's a big lively beer hall with big long tables and lots of groups enjoying themselves after work. Our table for two, situated upstairs in this massive place was the exception. Waiters were efficient and we they provided us with English menus to make choosing from their dozens of options easier. Like other Austrian restaurants we've visited this trip, the portions are massive-they make the US-sized big portions look small. My wife's chicken "schnitzel" (thin pounded chicken breast) was two large pieces that each covered the 10" dinner plate and was served with about a pint of German potato salad while my fresh fish (fried perch) wad two 8" long pieces, about an entire head of steamed broccoli and a couple of cups of buttery parsley potatoes. In addition we ordered their version of a caprese salad (tomatoes and fresh mozzarella with basil) that also filled an entire large plate. I suppose owing to the size of the restaurant (must seat at least 300-400), the food arrived super quick-salad in about 5 minutes and main courses very shortly after. With a couple of glasses each of a local red wine, the entire meal was less than 50€! Unfortunately we couldn't even eat half the food although from our perch on the 2nd floor looking down across the balcony, we did observe lots of local people, including women, who did! Bottom line, festive place with a great value.

Once you first enter the main doors of this restaurant, you will walk down a flight of stairs which leads you into a larger dining area. I was told a lot of people have tripped on this staircase before because its steps are uneven, so be careful! The decor has so much history and class. I spent quite a bit of time looking at the many displays exhibited around the dining tables. Service was excellent. Our server asked us to wear their signature feather hats! It was fun taking pictures with them! VEGGIE SOUP (3/5) It was a clear soup with lots of veggie flavour. I would've preferred it if they toned down the salt. PORK SCHNITZEL (5/5) Omg, this was delicious! The pork schnitzel had the right thickness to it - not too much flour and not too much meat. This dish also came with potatoes and salad on the side. Loveddd this! APPLE PIE (5/5) One of the best apple pies I've ever had. It's hard to balance out the soury and sweet flavours from the pie and the apple. This dessert had it done right. It came sizzling hot, which was another plus. I'd recommend this restaurant to my friends who plan on visiting Vienna :)

Jimmy the server was lovely and the history and interior are fascinating. But the glow ends there…read more The food was sub par. The Pheasant soup was warm and had a nice finish. The vegetarian plate was full of overcooked gratins and soufflés. Cold and gummy. The schnitzel was thin and flavorless. The prices too high for the quality. Don't waste your time here.
