Supposed dent between the green lines.

This Hertz borderlines on running a massive scam operation, it's unethical what they are doing. Firstly, because I have my own insurance coverage and secondary through my credit card, I declined their coverage they offered. I think this is where the green light is for them to be predatory. Because of this, they put a $3600 HOLD on my credit card, which is absolutely insane. I don't think I've ever rented a vehicle where the hold was more than $500 or so at most. Secondly, upon returning the vehicle, they claimed damage to the driver's door for the amount of $300! In the attached picture they there is a scratch and dent. You tell me? Absolutely ridiculous. If there even is a dent, it's imperceptible unless under the most scrutinous of searches. That's an outrageous amount to charge for something that may have already been there to begin with when I picked the vehicle up. Avoid at all costs, they will nickel and dime you here for everything. Pretty much how all of Switzerland treats tourists so expect it.

Warning! Video or picture everything and note every single thing, no simple you may think. I wouldn't be surprised if the attendant and her co-worker or boss (whatever position he has) is compensated for reporting claims. A very small (2.5" / 6mm) scratch on the plastic bumper = $1,635.77 in repair bill from PurCo Fleet Services in Utah USA. The scratch is so small it took her multiple times to take the picture and had to put the rectangle key fob next to it to show the scratch. I rent vehicles often and have for 20+ years of business and leisure travel. A small scratch like this is dismissed or told by the attendant "you don't need to worry or note that." My wife and I were told after I tried to state my case that she (and her boss or co-worker overlooking) was not submitting the claim and apologized. We said thank you and left. Well, as soon as we get to our gate to fly I receive an email of the damage claim. My customer signature shows "Customer refuses to sign". Surprise to me! I was never asked to sign something. I've contacted the Hertz Zurich Airport, PurCo and responded to my Hertz survey and haven't received a call or email from them. Customer Experience = Fail.

Damage...really? After reading the reviews I'm not the only one they pull this stunt on. Buyer beware...better yet rent from someone else!

DO NOT rent a car here at Hertz without the most complete inspection EVER! You will most likely be charged for "damage" that is beyond belief. I'm including pictures of the "damage" I was charged over $450 for on a wheel after the very odd, overly meticulous return inspection. I rent cars all the time and this was just strange. It seems more like a way to get revenue. I will NEVER rent from Hertz again. Horrendous customer service, Hertz definitely missed the mark. I asked Hertz multiple times from e-mails to phone calls to links from their app to simply review the incident and was never contacted. I was a gold member which basically means nothing. Hertz will never get my business again and now you can decide...just pay their significant fees to max out the damage coverage because there is a good chance you'll be hit for some kind of "damage" when you return the vehicle.

spot the dent if you can

I was to pay $428.28 USD for the week when I picked up the car. There was no reference to payment in Swiss Francs. When I picked up the car in June, Europcar charged me 379 CHF (I now suspect the equivalent value of $428.12 of Swiss Francs in January 2025). That sum (379 CHF) converted to $479.93 because of the devalued dollar. Now, I can well understand having to pay in Swiss Francs if my contract called for payment in Swiss Francs, and I would have done so without a thought. But my contract was in US Dollars only; there was never a reference anywhere in the contract to Swiss Francs; and I never agreed to pay Swiss Francs. Both Europcar and I agreed in a binding contract for payment in USD of $428.12. Long story short, I was taken for $50 dollars. This is a relatively small amount, but it is the principal of the matter, and this speaks volumes about the character of this company. I expected Europcar to be something much more than an extremely small and petty enterprise. Very disappointed!

Like many other reviewers, I rented a vehicle from the Zurich airport location in May 2025. We returned the vehicle and were told everything looked great and our deposit would be returned. The deposit was returned and weeks later got an email with a blurry picture of a scratch saying they were going to charge me over $2000 USD and reversed my deposit return and attempted to make several other charges. I sent back the dozens of photos and videos I took of the car before and after I returned it and they simply said "that isn't enough". Keep in mind the blurry photo they sent didn't show anything or have any metadata confirming date/location etc. My bank is refusing to reverse it saying I willingly gave my credit card information to the rental car agency (shame on Citibank for this as well). I am now in the process of trying to collect other claimants who this has happened to and bringing it to the Swiss authorities. I already emailed SECO, Fedpol, econsumer.gov, FTC etc. If you look across review sites, this is a common scam by this Enterprise franchise. Please contact/message me if this has happened to you as I started a Google spreadsheet to hopefully connect the hundreds of people I see this has happened to to hopefully close this location down.

Beware! Avis scammed me out of $4,000!…read more I rented a car for 3 weeks from Avis. I declined the ~$70 per day insurance. The car I was given was in very poor condition: lots of body damage, missing door seals making it very noisy on the highway. The agent told me that the car was in poor condition and not all the damage was logged and suggested that I could take pictures but it wasn't completely necessary because they were aware of the state of the car. It was very late in the evening and I was exhausted after a long day of travel so I foolishly didn't take any pictures. When I returned the car I was billed $4,000 for a variety of tiny dings around the car that were very clearly related to a variety of small incidents, no doubt over the lifetime of the car. I did appeal this. The appeal was denied on the basis that without pictures I couldn't prove that the damage was preexisting. I asked for any pictures of the car before I rented it so that I could show the damage _was_ preexisting, but was ignored. I also asked if the appeal staff could talk to the agents in Geneva familiar with the car. I was ignored again. Overall, I had a very sub-par car for my rental period and then was basically scammed out of $4,000. Needless to say that I will never rent from Avis again and I'd definitely recommend avoiding them.

I'll protest this via my card company, but it an example of the horrible customer service that Avis offers and how they will do anything to make money at the expense of their customers. I will not be a customer again.

We were not initially aware of the extra mileage fee but ended up moving ahead with the rental as Rentava worked with us to establish what seemed like a fair price. Future renters should make careful note of the fact that damages to the vehicle lead to a standard deductible of 2000 CHF. If you pay for the all-round carefree package (which we did), the deductible is reduced to 500 CHF and waives damages to glass, tires, rims and loss of keys. In our case, we narrowly avoided another vehicle hurtling towards us on a narrow road in south of Switzerland by squeezing to the extreme edge of the road -- in so doing we grazed the guardrail and scratched the paint on the right front bumper of the vehicle. We were hopeful that in consideration of the circumstances leading to this damage (and their relatively minor extent) that Rentava would consider waiving or reducing the excess charge but we were charged the full 500 CHF excess. I reached out to Rentava after the amount was withdrawn from our account to ask for leniency but did not receive this. I confirmed the above policy with them. In consideration of this we would not choose to rent from Rentava again (notwithstanding an otherwise very positive experience) and would encourage future renters to be fully aware of this policy prior to renting from their agency.
