I had a very positive experience with SIXT at Zurich Airport. The whole process was smooth, professional, and straightforward. I would especially like to highlight the employee who assisted me, as she was exceptionally friendly, attentive, and very helpful throughout the entire rental process. She answered all my questions clearly, explained everything well, and made me feel very welcome as a customer. The vehicle was also in great condition and very comfortable to drive. Overall, I was extremely satisfied with the service and would gladly rent from SIXT again. read more

I rented from Sixt at Zurich airport recently and had a terrible experience. First, the associate gave me keys to a car that did not match what was on the car rental agreement (same car model but different license plate). I noticed it the next day and drove back to the airport to have it updated which was a major inconvenience to the start of my trip as I had already left Zurich area. This was brushed off by the associate without acknowledging the subsequent issues this mix-up could have caused if I drove a car that wasn't logged appropriately on their end. Second, after the car was returned and already invoiced- I received an email stating that there was 'damage' along the wheel arch which was classified as 'scratch down to primer.' This is inaccurate as the wheel arch of that specific model is made of plastic and there is no paint/primer there. Rather than providing clear pictures of the 'damage' substantiating their claim, they are automatically charging me $600+. This lack of accountability and poor customer service are reasons why I will not rent from this company again. read more

Very bad experience with Sixt at Zurich Airport. I booked a car 3 weeks in advance, but when I arrived at the desk, I was told the car was not available. Instead, they offered me a bigger SUV, but only if I paid an extra 60 CHF per day, which I refused because I wanted the same price I originally booked or a similar vehicle without extra charges. Then they told me I would have to wait 3 hours for a similar car. I agreed, but after only 1 hour they called me back saying they found a "better car." When I returned, the car they offered was actually smaller and not even equivalent to what I originally booked. At that point, I lost trust and requested a full refund because this felt very misleading. The manager agreed and told me I would receive a refund confirmation email within 1 hour. However, it has now been over 7 hours and I have not received any confirmation. This is the worst car rental experience I have ever had. Poor communication, misleading information, and unfulfilled promises. I do not recommend Sixt Zurich Airport at all. read more

This company is a fraud and scam artist. They are full time thieves and part time rental company! Three months after renting from them, they charged our card AUD 5k! Multiple emails back and forth and no response from the thieves. Put a review on google and they finally responded saying we had caused massive damages and the reason they charged our card was because we didn't object. How can we object to something that we didn't even know was happening. Please, please stay away from this company if you value your money as these scammers pry on tourists that they know might not easily be able to file a case on them in Switzerland. Cannot believe the country actually allows such a company to operate legally. They need to be put in jail and made to pay back all our money! read more

An absolute nightmare of a company to deal with. We rented a car with them in early September and they claimed there were damages to the windshield after returning the vehicle. It's now been multiple emails and unsuccessful phone calls to their damage customer service line to try to get a repair estimate from a garage to submit to my personal insurance. They charged me 1,165.40€ ($1,942.03 CAD) to fix a chip on the windshield, when the car itself had numerous scratches and dings on it during pick up already. If they claimed that this amount was used to fix the repair, then they should have no issues sending me this repair document, but that's not the case here. They are charging customers unethically for damages and pocketing the money while not actually repairing the vehicle. They never respond to emails and give you case numbers that no one actually follows up with, and are giving false information on their damage hot line hours so you can never reach them. You post a review and they ask you to reach out to a specific email so they can investigate but nobody actually gets back to you. Please be cautious when renting from this scam company and be aware of the lawsuit against them where the plaintiffs won because they were improperly charging customers vehicle damage related charges. This experience has been extremely frustrating with the whole back fourth between live chat agents and myself as you cannot ever actually speak to anyone. I will be filing a complaint to SECO and the Ombudsmen because this is truly ridiculous. If you're thinking of renting from this company, don't just walk away from them, RUN! I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy. read more

This is a fraudulent company that should be shut down! We had the misfortune of renting a car from them in early January 2025 - they are STILL charging us made-up bs "toll fees" (hundreds of dollars) in late March! I had to shut down our credit card to stop their fraud! Like the other 22 people who left terrible reviews, SIXT refused to honor their own contract price, claiming it was for a stick shift (we don't even have stick shifts in US anymore, OBVIOUSLY we did not rent a stick on icy foreign roads in the middle of winter!) & jacked up our price 50%. Like other disappointed customers, we couldn't shop around while standing w/all our kids & bags at the rental place, so we had to pay their extortionate fee - and they are STILL CHARGING 2 months later! Pls join the CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT against this fraudulent organization. read more

The person renting the car to us was rude and extremely pushy in selling us useless extras. The car was junk; it drove poorly borderline hazardous, the radio and Bluetooth didn't work, and the reverse camera also didn't work. And to top it off they charged me for returning the car a day late; which would have been impossible because I was out of the country by then. So either I returned it on time or someone stole the car and dropped it off at the car return. read more

***NEVER RENT FROM SIXT!!*** Car was hit by another driver, told me they'd get me a replacement but left me in the lurch for 2 days. Ignored this and various chasers 8 weeks only to now confirm their Ts & Cs state they aren't obliged to refund any journeys in such incidences. Liars! read more

Be very wary of Sixt Switzerland. Rented a small BMW license AI068409 from the Dietikon location. Had so many scratches and dents on the contract I just assumed they must have listed them all. Drove it to my protected private parking space in Germany and returned it the next day. Within days I had requests to pay for damages already listed in the contract so they went out and found more. Also do not let them tell you they will modify the contract after you take the car to lower excessive charges. Had almost a 1000 dollar bill for a one day rental and now they want another 800 for made up damages read more

A company to avoid at all costs. The cost at the desk was increased hugely from the price quoted online. The car we booked was unavailable and only a large and awful SUV at a huge premium was available. The cost of hiring the car was far greater than the cost of excellent accommodation for three adults over 14 nights in France. Insurance was sky high. On returning the car their staff were not interested in inspecting the vehicle. Two days after arriving home we received an email charging us over CHF2,000 for a 10 cm scuff which I dispute was there on the day I returned the car. Having read numerous reviews on Yelp, trustpilot, tripadvisor and google this seems to be their favourite well rehearsed trick. Given how many people are complaining about the same tactic I would never consider using this company a second time. Date of travel: April 2022 read more

STAY AWAY from this company unless you like being ripped off. Read the reviews. I'm not the only one being scammed for damages. There are plenty of others just scroll down. I had a one week rental and everything went well until we dropped the car off. I started to get worried when the staff member took 10 minutes to take pictures and all he said was that if they find something they will let me know. Since I know I didn't hit anything or see any damage as I had plenty of time to look the car over while he inspected it we left. I just received a letter from collections for almost $600 for a scratch on the left rear fender. I have rented cars all over the world and have never seen this kind of blatant unprofessionalism. Do not use this company. We booked through Kayak and when we arrived at Sixt to pick up our car, they refused to honor the booking price, blaming Kayak for reserving a car they shouldn't have. How is such a thing the customer's fault? In order to receive the car we wanted, Sixt made us pay more money. This all happened Christmas Eve, so it wasn't like we call Kayak and figure things out. Later in our trip, we called Sixt Corporate and a representative apologized, telling us that when we return the car, we would receive a refund for the overcharge. No such refund occurred. Bait and switch seems to be Sixt's M.O. I guess that explains this class action lawsuit: https://www.fortheinjured.com/class-action-lawyers/recalls/sixt-rent-a-car/ Please don't use them. A week later we returned the car and all-in-all we had a good experience. So, why the bad rating. Unfortunately, my step-father passed and I needed to return to Switzerland 3 days after returning. After waiting in line for a frustrating amount of time, we arrive at the counter where they said they no longer have any vehicles in the class we booked (intermediate). Usually, a rental car compayn will give you something in an equal class or greater but they forced us to pay double to go up a class! Additionally, the car we had originally booked didn't match their specs online (so they tricked us). We had two very young babies that were crying and they knew we didnt have the option to wait in line for another company, plus worried about getting charged after we had already booked a car with them. That was not the end of the problems. Upon return, Albana Seferi charged us an additional $159 to vacuum a little grass left in the car!!!!!! They claimed it was special cleaning, but in what world do a few grass clippings warrant special cleaning?! Upon appeal, Sonja Hefti continued with doubling down on the situation, with zero effort to find a resolution. I honestly feel so scammed! Its like they were trying to charge anything they could possibly get away with. In the end we were charged more than double! I will never rent from Sixt again. **Update: After appealing to my credit card to step in as a third party, Sixt even emailed me, bullying me into reimbursing for the cleaning fee!!! I really wish Yelp would allow us to give zero star ratings. Please, whatever you do, avoid using Sixt rent a car at all costs. I reserved the car before we arrived, and the car was literally covered in dents from hail damage. The agent who gave me the car only noted two areas of hail damage, and when I went back to the desk to ask her to amend the form she made me wait 20 minutes while she methodically handled another customer. Never apologized for offering me a car covered in dents or offered me another vehicle. I will say that the car handled and operated just fine during our week long trip. We drove every day for a week and filled the car with the appropriate gas as it was marked with a sticker where you fill the tank. I'm used to Hertz in the US where they commonly ask for the receipt from the gas station where you fill the tank before returning the car. So when I filled the car up with the gas that was shown on the car's sticker I kept the receipt. When I returned the car it was inspected by a Sixt employee. I showed him the receipt for the gas. He told me the car checked out perfect and said he would e-mail me a receipt. So after I've been told the car was fine, I discarded the gas receipt. A full THREE DAYS LATER I get an e-mail from Sixt claiming I put the wrong gas in the car. Who knows how many employees and customers handled the car over those three days? This is just horrible business practice of incompletely inspection of the car on its return. Their allegation is completely untrue, and my notification was untimely. Do Not Use Sixt rent a car EVER!!! You would be much better off walking or riding a bike!! read more

Whatever you do, please choose another rental car company. It is not worth the savings. They claim I damaged a tire and are trying to charge me 500 for a single Mini cooper tire. I would give them 0 stars if I could. They're scam artists. We rented from sixt in Geneva and returned at Zurich airport right before our flight. The guy there stared at one of the tires for like 10 mins trying to find something he can charge us with. Well, he did find a tiny scratch, and the bill came out to be 800 CHF. I sent the invoice and showed him that the damage was previously there and they refused and made an excuse that this is a new damage. They said if we don't make the payment then they will take legal action. They are complete frauds!!! I wish I had taken these reviews seriously before renting with them. My experience renting with Sixt started out with no issues and relatively good customer service when picking up the car. My issues with Sixt started after returning the car to the Zurich airport and returning home. Upon returning my car, I reviewed the car with the return agent. He told me along with 4 other adults that were with me that there was no damage and that a receipt would be emailed to me. Three days later, I received an email requesting details on any accident or other occurrence with the vehicle that resulted in damage as Sixt claimed that there was damage to the car. In this email, they neither noted the damage nor did they share specifics/photos/etc. of the damage. I responded that nothing occurred while the vehicle was in my possession to cause damage. About a week later, I then received their damage claim for over $1,000 for damage under the front bumper. Unfortunately all pictures that I took after returning the car was of the front, sides, and roof of the car. I did not think to crawl under the car to inspect and take photos. Since receiving this claim, I have repeatedly requested additional information to determine the validity of the claim as I believe this to be a fraudulent claim. If I had caused the damage, there should be several clear things they can provide including time & date stamped photos as well as previous & subsequent rental reports (with all sensitive data redacted). However, they refuse to send me this information. If you choose to rent from Sixt, my advice is the following: 1. Take the extra insurance on the car 2. Thoroughly inspect, photograph & video the car with good lighting both before renting and upon return. 3. Demand that the return agent that inspects the car provide you with the rental return condition report onsite before leaving. This was my first and will definitely be my last time renting with Sixt. Unfortunately I did not read reviews before renting otherwise I would have seen that this was a common theme in many reviews. Please be careful!! read more

I will never rent from SIXT again. As is apparent from the only other review of this company they will charge you for repeated frivolous charges that they are completely ridiculous. First you get your car in the airport, the you walk out to the garage and to your car. After a bunch of scratches you then mark, you have to walk back to the airport counter and stand back in line. Once you got that straighten out its fairly straight forward and the 1 star goes for the free GPS navigation which was convenient. Bringing the car back appeared easy but really wasn't. The guy who checked us in said, all good and we send you a email and low and behold the email came. Listed that the car was dirty and charged for extra cleaning, only after a heated exchange with the Station Manager I got these charges off. Would never rent from sixt again, that car was not excessively dirty. Switzerland weather has plenty of rain the car will get dirty and the inside maybe had a few crumbs left over but for sure no stains. read more

It seems like this review is not going to be unique. Too bad I didn't read the other reviews beforehand. We rented a car from Geneva airport for a week and returned it at Zurich airport, during which we got a rock chip. When we got to the airport, there were no one at the office, the door was locked, even though we were clearly there between the posted hours of operation. Furthermore there were at least five other people waiting to drop off. After fifteen minutes someone finally showed up (just one person) and went to help the fist one in line and motioned for the rest of us to just drop our keys in their key slot. So we did. A week or so later we received an email stating the damage on the windshield, which we expected to pay. But then another week later we received another email stating they found another damage...three faint scratches on the RIM of one of the tires that was not there when we returned it. They wanted us to fill out an incident report in which we denied that it happened during our watch. A week later we got a bill for $~650!!!! Ridiculous. Why even bother have us fill anything out!!! Everyone should know about these crooks trying to squeeze you for anything they can get. I highly doubt they will even fix it either, as it should be considered usual wear and tear probably caused by themselves. read more

Sixt rent-a-car - Car Rental Near Me - Kloten, ZH

I rented a vehicle from Sixt at Zurich International Airport in July 2017. Upon returning home, I received an email from Sixt advising that they had located a scratch on the "rim". An invoice followed with a bill for approximately $650. I requested a photo of the damage. The scratched "rim" was actually a scratched hubcap. The damage was purely cosmetic, and the hubcap didn't even need to be replaced. Nobody gives a crap if there is a scratch on the hubcap of a compact Renault ... except Sixt! A hubcap can be purchased for about $30 and can be installed in under 5 minutes, yet the unitemized repair estimate stated that parts cost nearly $400, labor was about $70, loss of use was about $30, and an "administrative fee" was about $150. Seriously? A scratched hubcap is netting them more than my one week car rental did. This is a flagrant fraud. These people are CRIMINALS! In all my years of travel, this is the absolute worst rental car experience that I have ever had. I will never use this company again. As an update, I sent Sixt's invoice for damages to the insurance company that provides me rental damage coverage as a benefit of my credit card. I advised Sixt that I submitted their claim. Despite this, they charged my credit card without my permission three months after I returned home from my trip. When told to reverse the charge, they refused, so I contacted my credit card company to dispute the transaction. Additionally, I received an additional $30 charge on my credit card three months after the fact because Sixt was asked to supply my name and address to the Zurich Police Department so they could send me a ticket for an alleged 2 km/h speeding violation caught on camera. Sixt did not have my permission to charge my card for this either. Laughably, I was not the one who was driving the car, but my name was provided by Sixt even though there were two drivers listed on the rental agreement. I'm done with Switzerland. If you're unfortunate enough to rent through Sixt, cancel your booking credit card upon returning home. Scumbags. read more
