On Saturday at noon I had a confirmed reservation at Hertz Smithtown. I paid with my debit card -- $790 was immediately removed from my account. I was then told, for the first time, that Hertz does not accept same-day debit card transactions. I was denied a vehicle. Both employees then left the building. When I asked for help on next steps, the manager -- already in his car -- told me out his window to call Priceline. Priceline told me to speak to Hertz. I stood alone outside a closed Hertz location with $790 gone from my account and no car. This rental was arranged for two combat veterans -- myself and a fellow veteran traveling with a broken leg in a halo brace -- to receive proper medical care. Because of Hertz Smithtown's failure to disclose their payment policy at any point during booking, we now face 36+ hours without housing and nearly $800 drained from my account with no resolution offered. By 2pm Saturday, after multiple follow-up calls, every representative online continued to insist that no money had been taken from my account -- while I was staring at the $790 withdrawal in real time. I am very disappointed with the lack of communications from this Hertz location with respect to the Rent2Buy program. They sent a generic email telling me that they will notify me when the vehicle is available, but on their website it said it was available the day I reserved it. Aside from the lack of reply to my emails, I have called, spoken to an associates who passed me to a voicemail. Left a voicemail and no one called me back. I need to know if the car will be ready for a rent2buy by the day displayed on their website when I made a reservation and paid with my credit card. It's a blackhole of communication. read more

Returned car ten days later my credit card is getting charged still, car i got as rental smelled like cigarettes and car seat had holes in it. When I call the place to discuss payments I get the run around go to enterprise down the street, save yourself the headache and stress. read more

Got a rental through State Farm insurance and was told I had to use Hertz. Called on Friday to make sure there would be a car on Monday. Was told I was getting a compact. Told them the insurance co promised a mid size. Put on hold ...yes, mid size. Showed up to get the car and was again told I was getting a compact. Told them again...no, midsize. Ok. Midsize. While the agent was arranging the car another agent picked up a phone call and I heard her say "yes, all State Farm covered cars are mid size." Curious. They bring out a Nissan Sentra (mid size!?) with a missing wheel cover and a dented rim. Ok. Not taking that car. Then they bring me a Toyota Corolla. (Again, mid size?) This car has all its wheel in tact but is filthy. I told them I'm going to a wedding and I'd hate to drive a filthy car. The agent (the second one I'm dealing with) takes it to "wash" it. 30 second later she comes back with a dirty wet car. She hit it with a hose. When I told her I was disappointed she told me they don't have a power washer. Really? Horrible customer service. I travel frequently and will NEVER EVER use Hertz. Quick edit...an hour after renting the car from Smithtown Hertz I stopped at the location in Huntington for someone to show me how to pair my phone with Bluetooth. (The agent in Smithtown basically just left me at the car with no assistance.). The agent in Huntington not only paired my phone but also washed the car for me. With soap. Go to enterprise right down the street instead. Upfront pricing (my price was raised $25 a day) and they don't give you damaged cars like the one I got w 2 burn holes which was never disclosed. No wonder it's so empty inside and looks like it's going out of business. Enterprise is 1/4 mile west and so much better read more

I recently rented a car from Hertz in Smithtown NY (near Islip MacArthur Airport). It is less expensive than renting from the airport. I rented a MIDSIZE auto for 3 days and it cost me $114 (including tax etc). If I had rented a COMPACT auto from the airport from another agency for 3 days I would have had to pay approximately (the lowest I found) $145 (tax included). Anyway, a relative drove me to Hertz in Smithtown the next morning and I picked up my rental. It was clean, drove well and the manager even printed out directions to where I had to go. We got a flat tire and brought back the car since we were told in the phone just to bring in and exchange the car. After fill up new paperwork, the customer service asked us are you taking the car across the street to fix or just exchange. We did not know we need to pay, so we said just exchange. Now, the customer service told us we are responsible for the tire. My husband got very upset. They did not explain in the phone. If we knew it we could have been done so instead of wasting our time to go all the way to this Hertz. The worker who assisted us was Elizabeth and she was very rude and not honest. The manager also very rude and both raised their voice at us. We're very upset that they conduct the business in dishonest way and poor service. read more

i'm rating hertz a 1 star because i am a hertz president member and i always rent with hertz when i travel but this location i am very not happy with. i am renting a car with them for 1 month and knowing that the car inspections expires within 10 days of me renting and they still giving me this car. so i called them up and they said that it i don't bring the car back and swap it out and i get a ticket it would be charged to me. how are you going to give me a car thats inspections is due in 10 days knowing that im renting it for 1 month? that doesn't even make sense. then now they want me to drive to the airport to get another car? so i should spend 2 hrs one way 4 hours both ways to get a car that they messed up on? no way. i'm not renting at this location again and also when they gave me the car the car was all dirty on the outside and there was scratch and not even cleaned. read more

Disappointed with their Customer Service First and foremost we absolutely love our car. Hertz Auto Sales in Smithtown came to us as a recommendation by a friend who purchased his vehicle there. The service we received while at your dealership was exceptional. Jeremy worked extremely had to get us the vehicle we wanted and well with the car no complaints to date. Though the experience with your dealership was a great one...regrettably the follow up has been horrendous. When we purchased the car on 03/16/2019, Jeremy, told us that the car came with a second key and that it would be sent over night to our home when ready. A couple of weeks passed by and nothing. I called Jeremy who was busy at the time so left a message. No call back. A week later I emailed Jeremy, no response. Emailed again a few days later...no response. Called again, spoke to a nice young man, who again said Jeremy was busy and left another message. AGAIN NO CALL BACK. Called back a week later, spoke to the same gentleman, and this time asked to speak to the manager. He placed me on hold and then came back on the line to ask what I was calling about. After explaining the reason for my call he said he would look into it and that someone would return my call . NO Jeremy, NO Manager, NO call back. Called back again the following week and the same gentleman placed me on hold yet again, to tell me that the key had already been sent, but gave me no details, tracking number, dates, nothing. This was supposed to be "overnight-ed" remember? NOTHING. Called the following week and the same young man... this time he says they are not sure what happened and that they would need to track it and call me back. Guess what....NO CALL BACK. Now I'm really pissed. Tuesday, 5/21 - Called AGAIN and FINALLY got JEREMY (ONLY because he answered) and all he could say was heeey Veronica, yea we dont know what happened to that dang key, so I'm going to have to send out a guy to make the key for you. He can go to your house or work. He will be there Thursday. Where do you prefer? Work. Great! Ill send him over Thursday. He will call you to make arrangements. It is now Friday, 6/7 and still NO Common Courtesy, NO Apologies, NO Call and NO KEY. I can't begin to tell you how extremely frustrating this has all been. I am a Supervisor and I fix problems and handle complaints daily. I pride myself on my customer service skills. I try to resolve issues as quickly as possible to avoid patients being unhappy with our services. I can not understand why its been so difficult for Jeremy or Hertz Management to accept responsibility for their lack of professionalism and just resolve the issue! I wish I can give zero stars but it won't let me and I'm writing this review bc I don't want this to happen to anyone else. This will be a long review and I want everyone to read this. I purchased a vehicle here and the next day of me having the car all these issues started to happen from noises that appeared in 24 hours and on top of that the gas pedal was getting stuck and the car kept delaying acceleration and shaking of the car. This happened all the next day of me buying the car so I ended up returning it and they wanted a $250 fee to bring it back meanwhile if the car was in bad shape I dk why I have to pay that anyways they said they deleted the plate transfer from dmv in their system so now my plate number wouldn't be on the vehicle they sold me bc I brought it back so which I thought now let's fast forward a month later I found another car I went to Toyota dealership this time not no hertz so buying the car at Toyota I'm outside looking at the new car I bought all a sudden the Toyota dealership sales guy calls me in and said your plates are still under another car which means they have to delete that out their system that takes one click to do meaning hertz lied when they deleted everything out their system bc that's what they told me when I returned the car Now I'm calling hertz in smithtown no one picks up I'm sitting in Toyota and three ppl in Toyota all trying to get in touch with them no one picks up I look through my phone bc I remember I had the sales guy bob that sold me the car direct number and gave him a text bout can you delete the plate transfer on other vehicle bc I'm purchasing a car at Toyota he text me back I can't now and I'm like is there someone that can bc I purchased a vehicle and need those plates transferred after that he ended up blocking me!!! Couldn't get in touch not only hertz but his direct phone so now I had to pay extra for new plate number! And pay more monthly on my loan payments for new plates at Toyota bc hertz lied to me saying they deleted it and everytime I call location they hang up and hung up on the sales rep at Toyota bc they tried calling also and now I'm thinking did they even call to cancel my loan I had with hertz bc hertz also said they will cancel the loan from bank today bc I returned the car and some reason I'm getting bills from a loan at hertz that they probably didn't cancel now. Don't ever go to this location they treated me in the worse possible way when I asked nicely. And to add one more thing i supposed to have gap insurance on that vehicle I got at hertz but in paperwork I didn't have it so they charged me for gap insurance and didn't give it to me so definitely don't trust them and stay away from here. read more

I had a rental booked ahead of time. After 40 min wait it was my turn and they said there was only 1vehicle left and it was a full size pickup. I had booked a compact and was told I would have to pay difference in rental. I walked out and called hertz which they couldn't care less nor offered me anything for aggravation.
