I tried to rent a car here once, and even with a reserved pickup time I sat around for almost 2 hours while the woman helped EVERYBODY else (including the D'bags that came in after me but were "gold members" or some dumb thing like that)! This place is so incompetent! No one is ever available to help you when you arrive. The same employee does the car cleaning and the reservations, so you have wait for each car to be cleaned before you can even pick up your rental. They don't care about customer service at all. read more

Every step of this rental process was more difficult than it should have been. Poor customer service, I would say poor communication but there was absolutely no communication on their end what so ever. It was a lot of guessing on my end. Even when I tried to communicate and verify each step prior, the phone was either never picked up, or when I finally did reach a representative, I was given incorrect information. I appreciated a ride was provided to and from the location but every step of the entire rental was quite the process when it should not have been. Called ahead to verify the price and was given false information from multiple sources and was charged significantly more in the end. When waiting for a pick up ride, was expecting a Hertz car to arrive so I waited 30 or so minutes past the scheduled pick up time looking for one. Finally an unmarked car was who picked me up, with no sticker, no sign, with someone who was not wearing any Hertz shirt or Hertz lanyard or any sign of employment. No vehicle make, model, or license plate was given to me so I was not told what to look for either. When dropping off the rental, was not instructed at all on how to do so, even after calling and asking on how to do so. Had to guess on how, and then was called multiple times afterward being told I had done it wrong even though no instructions were given at any point. Even when I had a scheduled pick up time, still had to wait 30-40 minutes at Hertz when I was only the second customer there and that was after already waiting 30 minutes to find the unmarked car to pick me up. I've been here for 25 minutes and everyone is waiting for a car So, there is shuttle that takes 15 minutes to drive to the rental parking lot, if that is not bad enough! Then, you get here and the cars are -all gone. Except, there are a few outside of he class I chose...that they won't give me. Is a Sentra an upgrade to anyone? Horrible experience with this location on Thursday 2/11/21. I tried to book on the website, but that was not possible. I decide to call right after 8:00 am. I asked for pricing and said let's book this do you need my CC info. No, we have it on your Gold Plus Rewards. So I called to say I would be there at 4:30 to pick up my rental only to be told there was no reservation and said person said I only asked for a quote. People, by the time I made this phone call I had been up since 4:00 am getting ready for work. I was 100% wide awake when the call was made, unlike the employee that took the call @ 8:00 am. Incompetence and indifference. I had an insurance rental from another location. I contacted Hertz to confirm it could be dropped off anywhere. This was on a Thursday night. When no receipt had arrived by Friday afternoon. I reached out. No response.. By Monday the car was still showing as not returned. I contacted this location and spoke with a Vincent, who figured out that the car had in fact been re-rented and sent out on Saturday. He assured me he would correct the problem. Fast forward two weeks later and Hertz reached out to the insurance company as the car rental was still showing open. The insurance company conferenced in the location where I rented it and they fixed it but indicated that had not heard from the Peabody location, the same one that had failed to register the car's return and then blown me off after the problem was brought to their attention. A few days later on 09/01/23 I happened to be near this location and stop by to inform the manager what had happened as I could not reach anybody on the phone. He got defensive when I pointed out they had problems there and why. His posture changed and He asserted "I'm trying to help you fix this" in an agitated state. I pointed out that the problem had already been corrected, through no help of his location and that I thought he would want to know. I got a quick "okay thanks" and dismissive approach. Apparently the problem at this location is a top-down phenomenon. Based on the service here Hertz would be better off to close it down. This is a company that once sought the Malcolm Baldridge award for customer service. How far they have fallen is staggering. read more

Oh Hertz... I had a rental through Hyundai Village of Danvers when my car was in service. The dealership paid for the rental (or at least was supposed to). My card was only on file because of the insurance. And, well... I was charged for the whole rental. Why? I'm yet to figure this out. Spent countless hours on the phone with their billing department, that claims the dealership never paid for the rental. The Peabody location claims that they did pay, but it looks like they don't file their paperwork correctly to the corporate office. SO DONT BE SURPRISED IF YOU SEE EXCESS CHARGES ON YOUR CARD. .... AND NEVER GET THEM BACK. The billing department sends me to the Peabody location, the Peabody location sends me to the billing department. Somehow it is the client's job to make their departments talk to each other, and I'm failing at it pretty badly. Tried tweeting, emailing, etc. Nothing works. Hertz is a brick wall. Unfortunately my car was hit so I took my car to the Ira collision center in Danvers. Ira collision center called Hertz in Peabody which I thought would be fine. I signed paperwork for a rental and I was told they would work with my insurance claim for the payment. I did have to pay an upfront fee of $50. Car was dirty during covid and had no clean seal and in terrible condition. So anyways these people struggled to lift a pen to find the claim for payment before they just charged my card without informing me twice. Note the gentlemen that had me sign my paperwork assured me he would handle everything with the claim. They do not communicate at all with their customer. This hertz is the worst experience you could ever have. The staff is ignorant and don't care about you as a customer. I rented a van that broke down the same day I rented it. They gave me a car that stunk of smoke. I was assured that they would have a van for me on Wednesday 5 days later which I agreed to. I drove around in the smelly car until Wednesday and went there to get the van. They never even requested one so I was out of luck. I told the guy that I have never had such bad treatment ever renting a car. He told me to give him the car he was going to rip up my contract and strand me at there location. I took the car and left to go else where . Enterprise car rental on 114 in Danvers is a pleasure to deal with. Please do not rent from Newbury St hertz on rt1 Peabody. I had to rent a car at the last minute for 3 days and called around for a low rate. With an available coupon code I received a great rate and was provided with a car right away. I can't recall the two guys working at the desk but they especially should be recognized as they were very professional, friendly and got me on my way quickly when they realized I was in a rush. Returning the car was just as easy, they had a line at the desk and said I could just drop off my paperwork and be on my way. I would definitely rent from this Hertz office again. read more

So this is the first time my wife and I rented a vehicle from this location. We rented it a week in advance from our first trip to New York. My wife has been interviewing in NY for Rockefeller and NYU. She has two Masters and a Doctorate, finishing at Harvard she went on the job market. Here's the first thing Hertz did. First, they waited till the day before to tell us, we couldn't have the truck we rented. They stated we'd have a Colorado instead of a Silverado. No big deal we'll take it. Next we find out, they don't have that either. But they would give us a Mini-Van instead, a Dodge Journey. I really wasn't happy, there was a reason I wanted a truck going into New York City. But that wasn't all, they waited till the last minute to tell us so that every other place was so expensive they strong armed us into taking what they had. They the Ass. Manager tried telling us the Mini was more expensive than the full size truck, and he gave us a deal for the price. Even though when we initially booked the Res. they were the same price. I of course didn't appreciate that but whatever. I had my wife drive the van home, and I packed while she got ready to leave. I open the van door, and this pungent odor of Marijuana hit me in the face. So I spray the van down with odor repellant, which as you know didn't work. I open the back of the van hatch to find a Sonic bag with trash and ketchup in it. Now if you know the area you know the Sonic is about a mile up the street, and sure maybe a customer left it in it, and they didn't clean it. I think more than likely one of the employees drove it there for afternoon lunch and threw his garbage in the back. In either case, if you are looking for ghetto accommodations, at an expensive price. This place is for you. I don't particularly like this Hertz location. My husband and I share one car, and every few months I find myself needing to rent a car so that we both have transportation if we have different business or social events. This is the second time I've used this location now with mixed results. The first time they gave me a compact car when they should have upgraded me since I rented an economy car and they had none left. Economy & compact are ofcourse the same rate, however one is noticeably smaller than the other and I had chosen economy for a reason. They lost brownie points with me for this but I didn't make a big fuss about it. Today again I rented the economy car, but this time they neither had an economy car nor a compact car available. So, I was told it was my lucky day and they upgraded me (which I thought was fantastic, except for the fact they charged me extra for the upgrade!). Now, I have used plenty of car rental places, and NEVER been charged for an upgrade when they don't have the car. The sales guy at the desk tried to sneak the upgrade charge by me (didn't even mention that the bill went up by X until I said something), even though it was their responsibility/duty to upgrade me for free since it was unavailable. Again, I'm not one to make a fuss, so I paid it because they did not want to remove it. However, they again lost credibility here. Not to mention, they gave me a car that was 3/4 full of gas and asked me to bring it back 3/4 or prepay for the full tank. It is very difficult at the pump to judge exactly when the tank is 3/4, but they informed me that it wasn't possible to fill it before I left, so thats what I guess I'll have to do...I also didn't like the hard push toward extra coverage. In any event, I will either be going with Enterprise & National Car Rental next time, or trying the Salem Hertz. Perhaps it is just this one aggressive sales rep, but I prefer businesses that do right by the customer. read more

Charged my card without permission. Received rental car from nearby auto body shop while my front end was being repaired, 2 months later receive 1900.00 charge on credit card because Hertz had trouble collecting bill from repair shop. I only left credit card in case of damages(this seemed normal). don't trust them, its that simple. read more

If you are looking to rent a reliable car Do Not Use Hertz in Salisbury or Peabody. We rented a car from them with the low tire pressure light on and brought it to them with issue and they give it back saying they fixed the issue when in reality they have not and send us out with a defective car. Here we are on the road and the low pressure light comes back on. We put air in the tire and when we call them to exchange the car they say we have to fix their tire. Their service department is useless and their solutions are to use your time and money to to fix their cars. I will never use them again and suggest you do not use them either. Their cars are not reliable and will leave you stranded. read more
