This hertz failed to run my credit card when I rented my car despite providing the credit card both online when I reserved, and again in person when I picked up the car. A hold was placed on my credit card but then the hold was released. I was unaware and somehow hertz sent me to collections after Only sending one bill and only a month after the rental was completed. I have tried to call this location to speak to any human being about what occurred, but can never get through. Also they charged me 20% tax and somehow going over one toll booth cost be $20 for "plate pass" despite the toll being .75 cents. Do not rent from this place. read more

I'm a President's Circle member and I waited in line over 2 hours to get a rental. It's the only time I've ever had to wait in a line to get a car. Every other hertz airport location I've walked to the garage and grabbed my car. They have one person working the counter. This is unacceptable! On October 13th, my mom and I visited Hurtz, and it was easily one of the worst travel experiences I've ever had. Despite having made our reservation days in advance, we arrived to find a long line stretching out the door, with people sitting on the floor due to the lack of seating. What was supposed to be a quick pickup turned into a frustrating FOUR-HOUR wait! I'm not entirely sure what caused the long wait, but nearly everyone else at the rental location with us (including Gold Members, which seems like a waste of money) had to wait for hours to get a car. This was literally the worst rental experience ever. I've rented cars all over the world and this was so, so bad. Made my reservation over a month out- get there and the guy just says "we don't have any more cars so we're closed". Left me stranded at the airport. There were families with small, exhausted children there, a man who was desperately pleading that he needed to get to a work function... it didn't matter because their system sucks so bad. To top it all off- since Booking.com booked it for me they are saying it's too late to cancel so I guess I'm out $500 for a car I never got to use. Hertz Buffalo Airport is terrible. Waited about an hour to get a car. Based on other reviews I was lucky. When I said something to the lady at the counter she said you should have seen it yesterday. Then, after I get home I get a charge on my credit card for an additional $139. It took forever to find out what it was for. I was told it was for tolls. I asked for a breakdown since we only drove the car two out of the five days we were there. Found out I was charged a flat fee for each day I rented the car regardless of whether I incurred any tolls. This was never disclosed and app they buried it on page 5 of the rental agreement. After waiting an hour for a car who is going to read through the entire agreement that is at least 5 pages long. This is a total scam. if you go to Buffalo NY and rent a car use anyone but Hertz. read more

The wait was extremely long because there were no cars available for about and hour and a half. That is not good. However, I am giving five stars for the sake of Shanisha, the person helping us. Despite being under great amounts of pressure for a situation not her own fault, she kept cool, friendly and organized. Shanisha even gave us (and a bunch of others it sounds like) the gas perk as recompense for the long wait. So I will say it one more time-this is a good review for the sake of your employees, like Shanisha, who saved the experience for me. Please act accordingly towards them. read more

This is for the location across from the airport. Service: Placed a reservation online and was happy that there was no line/wait when we arrived. Staff was super friendly and talkative. They even let me leave my car behind in the parking lot, however if you need to do this, maybe call first since they have a small lot. Quality: Good car selection, lucked out and got a new LE Camry which was clean and got excellent gas mileage. Took an 8 hour trip on less than a tank of gas. Would highly recommend! read more

I prepaid for a rental from December 8-15th. when I went to pick up the rental they "upgraded" me to an electric car. she then proceeded to say I can pay more to upgrade to a car that was about to be ready. any other time I've rented a car The company if they didn't have the proper car available they have always upgraded me for free, to not be an inconvenience. had she just upgraded me to the actual car with gas I never would have had any of these issue. The employee who checked me out answered my questions of how long does a charge last? how long does it take to charge, am I going to have issues finding places to charge? if I do get stuck will AAA be able to charge me? all her answers were complete lies as she clearly had no clue what she was talking about, but she clearly stated that the car has to remain on to charge. A trip that normally takes me 6-7hrs with gas/food stops took me 13 hours as I was told the charging stations where at all rest stops and only took 20 mins to charge. I was not able to find a compatible charging station at any rest stop on the start of my trip. when you Google electric car charger Tesla chargers come up and it took me miles off my route just to not work. I lucked out and a stranger helped me lead me to the Waterloo outlet where he helped me set up the charger. ( I was at 7% and had 14 miles left) 2 of the 6 chargers didn't work and when it finally did work I was sitting in an empty shopping lot at night by myself with my 6 month old baby for 2 hours while the car charged. Every time I tried calling Hertz during my drive and over the weekend I was on hold for 30-45mins before the phone disconnected and couldn't get thru to an actual person. on the drive back After mapping out proper places to stop and charge. the car completely died on me and left me and my 6 month old baby stuck on the side of RT 17 20 miles out of Binghamton. the car was charged to 212 miles and the stop was 164 miles away but car completely died 20 miles away. when calling Hertz road side assistance the lady argued with me and wouldn't send a truck until I agreed to pay more money. I used my personal AAA and paid out of pocket as it was cheaper than what Hertz wanted to charge me. after getting to the rest stop and 2 hours of trying to charge the completely dead car it would not work. other cars pulled up to the pumps and had no issues charging there cars. so clearly it was a car issue. after calling the Hertz in Vestal, they said they couldn't help, they had no cars and wouldn't accept the car from my AAA call. I did get a helpful young man when I called back the road side assistance, did provide another car that I had to pick up in Syracuse, so had to take a 2 hour Lyft ride, load and unload the car multiple times then another 13 hour trip back, I missed work, an important doctor's appointment and had the safety of myself and my 6 month old daughter put at risk because they didn't give us the proper information about the car nor was there a manual in the car. when returning the other rental I was told they would reimburse me for what I paid for the tow, however no one was around to actually speak to me and officially confirm. Now 2 weeks later I just get a text and phone call from the tow truck company confirming the pick up of the car in Binghamton. when I returned the rental I picked up from Syracuse the dead car was already back at Hertz. I contacted Hertz again as I was told they were going to refund the money I paid for the tow truck as well as some kind of compensation for the incredibly huge inconvenience but nothing was done. after yet another call and actually being able to speak to someone all they offered was a $75 voucher off a future rental. like I'm ever gonna rent from them again! This company has proved to me multiple times thru out my 1 week rental they do not care about their customers satisfaction or the safety of their customers as they just want the money,. I've been renting cars for years now and never have I ever felt so unsafe in a rental or completely disrespected by employees who had absolutely no concern about the safety of myself and my 6 month old baby... DO NOT RENT FROM HERE. I wish I had paid more attention to the reviews before renting from here. Not one person will answer the phone. You physically have to go in to update a contract. There is usually a line 3 people deep as to which it takes at least 45 minutes+ for each person to get helped because there is only one person working. Alyssa was at first very helpful but must have had a bad day the last visit because she was pretty much throwing in the towel on anymore help. We all know you have to be really pissed or really happy in order for most people to write a review or send an email. I had the absolute worst experience today with Hertz general customer service with the website, chat and telephone until I physically went to the Hertz location on 4195 Genesee St Cheektowaga(not inside the airport). I was hit by another motorist in my personal vehicle. The other driver's insurance company paid for a rental for me through Hertz Main St Williamsville location. I was told I have a Ram or Silverado by the Hertz employee last week. We are going camping and our personal truck's whole back end and bicycle rack was destroyed in the accident so we couldn't use it. An hour before pick up today an employee from the Williamsville office calls and tells me whoops ..we don't have your truck but we can supply you with a Ford Escape or a Minivan from another location. Ummm yeah, I'd be better off fitting my camping stuff on my bicycle but that's cool. I'm so glad that I get a call 1 hour before the scheduled pick up time to tell me this. This reservation was made and confirmed over a week ago. There is zero chance either of those vehicles would have worked to fit a week's worth of camping gear with 3 bicycles inside. We are supposed to leave in the morning so now I'm left to scramble around looking for a pickup truck. I went online to see if I could locate a pickup truck anywhere in the surrounding area...a few showed up within my dates selected...a few of those were closed permanently yet still on their website to reserve vehicles?? I attempt to make the reservation and it tells me I have to call a 1-800 number to book. I call it and the system hangs up on you with each and every single option you choose make a new reservation and if you chose that option, they will charge you 5% to talk to a human being....por favor???? I'd never ever personally rent from a place like this but this was who the insurance went through so my choices were limited to this joke of a place. You cannot get through to ANY of the locations individually either. Out of the 12 locations that I called, only 1 answered the phone and this is after a ton of attempts. He said he can't do anything in a nice way...."just keep calling till someone answers" So I decided to try a Chat representative. The system just manically types weird letters in between what you're typing and the at the same time, deletes letters while you type...it does not allow speech to text so it was a good 45 min to get 3 sentences out ..the person was a full on derpy derp so I got nowhere with them either. My last and final attempt was to go to a Hertz location and talk to a human face to face. I spoke with Deja at the Genesee location. She was insanely nice and was as empathetic as she could have been to my frantic ass as she saw me fighting to suppress the Karen within. I then spoke to Mike ..I assume he was a manager? He called a ton of locations looking for a truck for me ...he couldn't find one for me and apologized profusely. They were both very very very nice even though they couldn't help me locate a pick up truck. So I left and almost started to ugly cry from the pot of anger that had reached a full rumbling boil, Mike came happily knocking on my window with a big juicy white Silverado next to him. He said he looked in the back lot and was pretty sure this was good to rent. He went inside to double check and came back out and said it was all good and I left beyond happy. He went above what he had to do as an employee and made a very shittttty day into a great experience. He totally did not have to go back and look in the lot and I know how easy it would have been for him to just look at the computer and say sorry....Those types of employees that work face to face with customers should be compensated double whatever they are getting paid. Not one single person helped me besides these 2 employees...everyone else kinda just threw their hands up like sorry lady... not my problem.....byyyeeee. Those employees, unfortunately, have to deal with people face to face and don't have the option to just hang up. Just because I was able to hold back the vile filth that I wanted to spew at Hertz doesn't mean other will. I cannot even begin to imagine the pissed off, irate customers that they end up having to deal with after getting done with this company's torturous online/chat and phone customer service. I had accidentally rented a car from Enterprise (insurance rental while my car was being fixed) and they were nice enough to pick me up from their location and get me in the proper car that is covered by my insurance. My overall rental experience was pretty bad, but the nice people that work here made up for it. Because I was headed into Canada (where my phone doesn't work) I rented a cpmpact car with GPS. When I arrived, they didn't have any compacts (because you NEVER, ever get the category you rented!) so they put me in a fairly beat up Impala with about 40K on the odometer. Like all rental cars, it kind of smelled funny. Everything was fine...until I got into Canada, and then the GPS decided it would only stay on for 5 minutes at a time. Like, literally shutting down completely - so I was completely screwed trying to drive through the Toronto area aka Hell On Earth. Ultimately, I ended up having to write down directions like it was 1997. When I returned the car I discovered that they charged me an extra $14/day for the dubious honor of driving the shitty Impala that I didn't ask for. Fortunately the people at the desk were totally cool - they took off the upcharge AND the charges for the GPS with absolutely no hassle. My car sucked, but the service from the staff was good. read more

As always my confirmed reservation was messed up (no credit card on file) and I forgot the certificate good for a free rental......but I was feeling pretty good when I got the keys to an STS Cadillac (nice ride). This place is awful. Do not rent from here!! I booked from this off-airport site because it was close by and much cheaper. I took an uber from the airport to the Hertz, which is only 1 mile away. You could probably walk but I was in a rush to meet my friend. When I got there the line was pretty long, so I waited patiently until a rep went through the whole process of recommending strongly for me to upgrade/get insurance/prepay for fuel, etc. When we walked to the car outside, he asked me to take a look around the car and see if there were any issues. I haven't had this happen in a while but I did note some scratches. I was going to check the interior but the agent stood in front of the door with the keys in his hands so I couldn't get in. He asked me to fill out a survey saying that the car was fine and intensely watched me as I answered. I was never given the opportunity to check out the interior of the car, which makes sense because once I drove off it smelled awfully of smoke, which I did call and let them know afterwards. I had to return the car prior to it opening because my flight was at 5AM and they open at 7AM. I called the Hertz office to make sure they got the car, and the woman who answered was extremely rude and basically told me to eff off. I was extremely worried about extra charges, and turns out they charged me a $300 "vehicle inspection fee" with no explanation. I called Hertz immediately, and the agent said the notes were sketchy so she'd be taking off the fee, but I haven't seen it returned on my card quite yet. The rental was a 2 day rental for $40, I returned it with more gas than it started out with and kept it extremely clean. I have never smoked a cigarette in my life. I truly hope they will actually take off the fee. I wouldn't want anyone to have to deal with this office so definitely rent somewhere else! read more

I am not happy with Hertz rental car. I will never rent a car from here again. They have charged me serval times for a car rental for 3 days. At first, it was $600. I called several times to clear it. They keep charging me for the same fees. I thought I cleared it up the last time I talked to them, but they only took off some of the money. I pre-paid for it and then they charged my card again. I prepared for the rental before I go it and it cost me $79 prepaid and then they charged my card another $86 when I returned it. It has been nothing but a headache. I also, asked them when I picked up the car if we were all set? They said, YES, you just have a hold $200 on it in case you don't return it or something happens. So why charge my card again? I will never go to them again and I will continue to get my money back. Very disappointing :( read more

If your flight might get delayed do not rent from them. I booked my flight through the hertz 800 number and told them my flight comes in kind of late what would happen if my plane gets delayed. They told me not to worry. Sure enough my flight got delayed and I knew I wasn't going to make it in time before they closed. I tried to called them hertz in buffalo so many time and they didn't pick up the phone. They even had my flight information. I made it to the airport like a hour after they closed and lucky for me Avis was there, because they knew there was a delayed flight. It would have been nice to be notified that they won't stay open for me and I would have made other plans to get a car. I tried to call to find out why no one pick up the phone and still no one picked up the phone. Called the 800 number for hertz and they said they don't have to stay to give you a car. I've asked yelp to change this a few times. There are 2 Hertz rentals on Genesee St- One inside the airport and another across the street. This is for the Local Edition across the street, outside of the airport. Most of the reviews here apply to the airport location. (The Car Seat one could go either way). I'm scoring so high to compensate for the mixed up review placement. If you're able to rent during their business hours you will save yourself an 11% concession fee at the airport. It's walking distance if the weather is nice, but if you have too much baggage or it's crappy out (aka 80% of the time in Buffalo), Call them and they will come get you. read more

Absolute worst customer service experience I have ever received. Dropped my car off at the end of a business trip (local, prominent company in Western NY) and left flash drives I needed for work inside. I was able to contact my coworker to give them a call while I was flying. They said they would leave a note to check in the morning as the lot was then closed. I called in the morning to follow up, and I got a rude woman on the phone who promptly hung up on me after telling me she didn't see keys to the car I had dropped off there with her. I called back and got a young man who told me since two people were working that day, no one could check in lost and found (how can one person not check while the other mans the desk?!), so I told him I'd like to speak with his manager. He responds with "the manager said the same thing. Fill out a report online." I've never received such blatant defiance when asking to speak with a supervisor. Please keep in mind my company harbors a significant corporate account with you, Hertz. It doesn't look like anyone from your location actually reads these reviews (fitting), but don't worry. When your corporate customer service department opens on Monday, the two people working today (9:00am on 6/24/2017) will have an official report filed about them. Absolutely unacceptable. As an aside, the location across the street actually AT the airport is awesome. Great people and great service. Ditch this garbage hole of a location for that one any day of the week. read more

I just waded through many of these reviews, before posting this one, only to note that many of the subpar reviews are for the Hertz located/attached TO THE AIRPORT! It is obvious by the comments within them. I made the same mistake and waited in line at the Hertz at the airport, only to be told my Hertz business (a small single story office) was across the street. They have similar street addresses, but NOT the same one. Anyhow, I have no dog in this review fight but fare is fare (thus I reported x3 as not belonging to this Hertz)... I made my reservations on-line in advance. Once I made it over to THIS Hertz (across the street from the airport) it was smooth sailing getting my car. There was another person who had to cross the street too, as he made the same mistake that I did initially (he was talking about it to his rental clerk). Alex helped me out right away, was courteous and professional. I opted to prepay for my gasoline, because every time I have rented in California they gave me a a half empty (or worse) tank. Alex escorts me to our car and I notice the tank is FULL. I explained that there was no way I would utilize a full tank of gas and desired to remove it from my rental agreement. Alex was willing to oblige, but we would have to go back in and redo the contract. However, he advised that if I filled up the tank before dropping it off they would remove it at that time. I had 4 other cranky people, due to flying in on a red eye, and opted to do that. But, then I recalled we were flying out in a few days before they opened. He advised me to toss the keys into the drop box and call later that day, just in case he was not present to handle the issue. I did as instructed and called from an airport while waiting for our connection. Alex was not in at the time, but a very helpful woman (I did not get her name) assisted me. I was placed on hold for a few moments while she verified the vehicle I had returned had a full tank. She confirmed this and told me it would be stricken. The following day, upon review of my final receipt via e-mail, lo and behold it was taken off - just as described and promised. For the excellent customer service I received at THIS Hertz I am giving them 5 stars! Thanks for taking care of us tourists and if we ever come back to Buffalo I will make sure we rent from you again. read more
