Beware of the Hertz car rental in PV! First, the actual rate ended up doubling compared to our reservation. Complete bait and switch on the rates. But what can you do when you land in PV and are in a hurry to get to your destination? The staff knows you're stuck and takes advantage of the situation. This Hertz lures in customers with the Hertz name but betrays the Hertz name. Second, the staff doesn't care at all about safety. We booked a small car, in the category of a Nissan March. We rented a Nissan March in the past, and it was good enough. But of course, that car was not available, and our only option was to take a Fiat Mobi. What's a Fiat Mobi? We had no idea it was a mini-city, 4 door with a tiny 73 HP engine. It's top speed is about 120 km/hour. We told the rental agent we were driving to Tequila, Guajajara, and Manzanillo. He said the car is new and would be fine. Totally the wrong car for a trip like that! It was a horrible little tin box that struggled with every hill and felt unsettled in the mountain twisties. I've driven my share of cars over the years from hyper-performance cars to simple econoboxes, and the Fiat Mobi is singularly the worst vehicle I've ever driven. Third, the rental process is very slow. Don't expect to breeze through the line and get your car if you have status with Hertz in the U.S.! It's a slog to check-in, take the shuttle offsite, and then deal with the drones preparing the cars offsite. This Hertz is a disgrace to the franchise!

Fiat Mobi great city car but horrible for driving across Jalisco state.

We booked our rental car months in advance online not reading any of the reviews. We secured a good rate. Hertz did not require a credit card to hold the reservation so I called to confirm if I did something wrong. Nope, did everything corrected. Asked if I needed anything else, they said no all good for my future trip. Arrival: the price goes up by $600! for a lesser car than what we booked. We had to add all sorts of required items upon arrival that Hertz website and customer service did not require online or over the phone when I called. Not cool, but I was stuck because I needed a car to get to my destination. We spoke to the agent and told them our travel plans. We were driving from Puerto Vallarta to Tequila to Guadalajara to Manzanillo back to PV. The agent was shocked of our plans and was telling us about how much they like Guadalajara. The Fiat Mobi is 73 horsepower city car. The Hertz agent should have told us the roads to all our destinations were curvy, hilly, mountainous, and more power was required, and dangerous in a Mobi, but they did not. The Mobi made it but it was the worst rental car ever but it was great on gas mileage. I will not recommend this rental agency in Puerto Vallarta.

Less than zero stars. This woman was absolutely horrible to us. So incredibly rude and vicious. How she has a job working customer service is beyond me. She quoted made up company policies in order to get us to pay $400 more A DAY for a car because they did not have the car we reserved available - so she said. For the record I'm a long time (decades) hertz customer as well as a shareholder. I'm well versed in the rental policies and she was literally manifesting things out of thin air to make us pay her as she held the car we rented ransom. This was mortifying, enraging, and disgusting. I've never been treated this poorly. Hertz? This woman is fleecing you. DO NOT RENT HERE.

At this branch, both staff and the manager falsely insisted I was required to buy supplemental liability insurance. When I showed Sixt's own website stating that the included third-party insurance already meets legal requirements, they changed their story and claimed that Jalisco has a higher mandatory minimum. This is straight up a lie. If they try to pull this trick on you, know that Sixt's third-party coverage is USD 37,000, while Jalisco's requirement (based on minimum wage) is about USD 32,000 per the most recent official sources. After 30 minutes of arguing and showing multiple sources disapproving their lies, they finally gave me the car--while threatening that police would pull me over. During this time, another customer (a tall white male) came to return his car. I asked whether he had been pressured to buy the "required" additional insurance. He told me he had never paid anything extra and he was never pressured into getting extra insurance at all. I can only imagine they pull this trick to target whoever looks vulnerable (I'm a single Asian woman traveler). This branch is extremely dishonest and deeply disappointing--especially given that rental car agents are often visitors' first point of contact with Mexico. This behavior reflects poorly not only on Sixt, but on the country as a whole.

Jose arrived quickly, changed my spare and took me to a tire repair shop nearby. The car was clean, reliable and in great condition. I highly recommend them again for anyone traveling to the area. When we checked out our car we signed all the paperwork, paid, and before being allowed our keys we were sent to a separate desk where I had to listen to a timeshare pitch. While I've got a 4 year old going crazy, I have to listen to the promise of $100 USD back if I go to breakfast and their restaurant so I can fall in love with it. When I left, I was given a vehicle with bright red stickers all over the windows. Clearly visible from far away making the car a target. Within 5 minutes of leaving Enterprise (after declining the time share, coincidence?) I was pulled over by the police who said they would take my families drivers license and passports unless we paid a ticket now. Cash only. They took all of the cash we had on us and left. We originally were supposed to travel w/10 families, but 6 cancelled due to the cartel leader being unalived over a month ago. We almost cancelled our trip due to the travel advisory and friends and family advising us not to go for safety reasonings. We had no issues on our trip and even travelled into town to do some glass shopping. Anyhow, I chose this company based off the good reviews and we wanted a trust worthy transportation company during this uncertainty. First off, I'm so glad I saved the pic of the directions on how to find them after baggage claim. Since it was our time in PV I didn't know what to expect at the airport. I can tell you that the shark tank with of scammers that don't work Vallarta will "pretend" they work for the company and will ask you for your name and try to mislead you that they are Vallarta transfers in the airport area where you see all the signs. I remember to meet with the people in the airport but my hubby and I almost fell for it cause they literally let us know that they were looking for us and worked for Vallarta transfers. Has actually called they said before you exit the airport. I can't believe we does. It seem so truthful. Read this! Do not talk to anyone in the airport for this company. They will say they work for the company and they don't and they will sign you up with a separate ticket. Those are scammers and should get arrested for this.!! I yelled at them to leave us alone! They are great liars and con-artists!! Ignore and BEWARE !! Exit airport and walk to left and cross the cross walk where you see the yellow stripes on side walk... you will than see a tall blue flag with "Vallarta Transfers" and a sign with your name. It was very nice to hear that we were at the right spot. That day was so crowded because it was a holiday weekend. And our driver had to wait an extra hour for us. Anyhow, it was very nice and relieved to see the right company and it was nice to be drinking a coronarita on the way to the resort. All the staff was very friendly and talkative. One person name that stood out was "Christopher". I remembered his name because my brother's name and he was very helpful giving us suggestions and telling us about the town. anyhow, the airport is 15 minutes from "Dreams" if anyone wants to know. We ended up doing the one-way pay instead of the round-trip pay. I guess we could've saved 30 bucks if we would've booked Uber XL on the way to the airport. We are promised that we would get beer on the way to the airport when we returned, please see the photo of the receipt. Then they emailed me and said sorry, we only do beer when we welcome you at the airport, but not when we drive you back on your departure. So that is why I give the four star review because in the email invoice they indicated they would give us beers both ways but it wasn't true.. It was $60-65 one way w/o tip. What I should've done was book Uber XL from resort to airport as it was giving me quotes for $17-23 one way without tip. We just had a ton of luggage that is why we booked it both ways. Ended up taking a Uber to town mid trip. It cost us $7 each way. We didn't have a bad experience. I Hope this review Will help you out on your next adventure. Yes we would use it again for one way only if we had less luggage. If You're traveling with no kids and less luggage and I would say go for the UberXL you will save money.

The site guides you through different car rental agencies you've heard of, and maybe some of them are legit...but my experience with reserving a car via Alamo Rent A Car through this site was a complete waste of time. After selecting the pickup/dropoff dates, car-types/sizes, prices, etc. all you'd expect from a car rental site, it then proceeds to collect your personal info (thankfully, not credit card info) finally giving you the details on where to be at what time to pick up your reserved car. The address I was given was near the airport, so it sounded legit, but when I got there (Blvd Francisco Medina Ascencio 7924 Col Villa De Las Flores, Puerto Vallarta, 48335) it was a taxi depot and no one had ever heard of Alamo rent-a-car (I spoke to multiple people; FYI - my spanish is excellent). The prepay price came out to under $20/day (under $80/total) but the final price came out to $240 because of the third party damage insurance required by Mexican law. My AMEX includes car rental insurance, but every time I have presented this card at other car rental companies in various different cities, they never let me get out of the third party damage insurance. I've accepted this, but Alamo threw me for a loop when they advised me at the counter the insurance was more expensive than the rental itself ($40/day). I had just returned from another trip where I paid about $15/day in insurance through Enterprise in Cancun. When I asked this Alamo why their rate was so much higher, they attributed it to high tourist season. In theory, this makes sense. More people means more cars on the road means greater likelihood of an accident, but what a scam. At least the car was nice, but the lady at the counter asked for about 4 different forms of ID to verify my identity, which was rather annoying. It felt like I was taking out a $10 million life insurance policy. This location is not in the airport terminal but the shuttle to and from is only about 5 minutes.
