I needed my Honda Odyssey Van today and the driver Cameron was the most helpful and kind person to me...I am almost 70 and to ride in the big red tow truck with him was a pleasure for sure...He listened to my stories of the day and was understanding...The job for him fit perfectly with his humor and easy listening...He has no control of the pricing for towing which I read another reviewer who was negative commenting about him...The business sets the pricing...He is the kind and understanding man who will load your vehicle and take you and your vehicle where you Need to go...Thank you very much Cameron for the time with you under the difficult circumstances I was going through, you are the best... read more

Watch your back with these people. The price they give you over the phone can be different than the driver charges you for. They did that to me one. I had my car towed with them twice (no choice, only towing available.) The first time, they loaded up my car and the two truck driver got into accident! He hit a car from behind. From what I understand, it wasn't at a high speed, but my problem is I would have never known about it unless I called to ask why my tow was so late. The tow, that time, was reasonable and I recorded everything in case I have problems with my car in the future, but honestly my car seems fine. The second time I was misquoted. And this time the tow truck driver wasn't as nice or professional. I get it, they have a tough job and it was super cold out that day. I just don't appreciate the price increase when he's already on site. All I'm saying is watch your back with these people. read more

My story is crazy. It starts at 5:10pm when I left Cleveland Ohio. I was stranded about 300 miles from home and I was about 300 miles away from my destination where I stopped at the turkey hill gas station to refuel, when pump #5 wasn't working I re-entered my Jeep to move to another pump, this is where I find out my Jeep decides it's time for a break. I turned the key and no click but the radio, interior & exterior as well as the windows still functioned normally. I knew it wasn't the battery, it's not that old but I checked it anyway and still called for a jump after asking multiple people who came to get gas. With no success I waited 40 minutes for someone from progressive to help, another 35 minutes and $114 lighter my Jeep was still functioning in the same manner. I called a few tow truck companies but I was getting the voice message, I assumed they were all closed since now it's 11:45 at this point. The only company I believed was opened was in Johnstown, because they answered but the man on the phone said try herring motors INC again. They arrived in 10 minutes and the drive was super nice also recommended that I go to Blough's automotive, where he dropped me and my Jeep off in the parking lot where I slept until I heard a car startup next to me. I called, the man said we're actually closed but give me a minute. He came outside opened the hood of my Jeep waved his magic wind and said "that should do it, give it a shot" lmao I tried it, nothing, he said "hang on, try it now" I guess he waved his hands the wrong way the first time, because my Jeep started right up!! He stated that my starter cable somehow shook loose and if it happens again it's most like that cable. He got my Jeep started in 30 seconds. I laughed in disbelief and asked well how much do I owe you, he said nothing just stay awake on the road and get home safe. So I want to thank everyone who helped me out the guy from progressive for trying, herring motor and Blough's automotive read more

Herring Motor - Jeep being pulled onto tow truck - Towing Near Me - Somerset, Pennsylvania

See all

This past weekend my vehicle broke down off the PA turnpike. I was on my way to Virginia, with 5 family members, from northern Indiana. When Daniel from Herring showed up, I admit, I bombarded him with questions about a service station, rental car options, and a ride for all of us. He definitely went above and beyond for us. He provided a recommendation on where to have my vehicle serviced as well as a rental car. He also took us to the rental car place first because they were within minutes of closing. Being broken down in the middle of nowhere 400 miles from home is pretty stressful. I can't even describe how wonderful it was to have help and assurance that we were all safe and had transportation to finish our trip. I hope like h*ll I don't ever breakdown like that again but, if i do, Herring Motor would be my first!! read more

Do NOT trust this business!!!! My family and I were stranded in need of a tow. We called AAA and they assigned the claim to Herring Motors. The service then stopped. Herring ignored the call and did not report to AAA. After a follow-up call to AAA, the representative stated that the shop did not decline the assignment, so they could not reassign the tow. The courteousness of others enabled my family to get home 5 hours later. I called Herring Motors the following morning and was told by the person answering the phone "Do you really think that $35 call from AAA means anything to us?" Do not place any faith in this establishment. read more

Calling this "shop" a joke would be a compliment. The worst customer service i have ever seen. The service manager hung up on me and refused to fix an issue they caused. The only nice part is i will never use them again! read more

I was charged $19,000 for a $5,000 transmission rebuild. On a separate occasion they gouged me(in my opinion) $800 on a $200 tow. In my experience they multiply 4 times the going rate. Management I found to be cocky and arrogant with a "you need us, not the other way around" attitude that's reflected in their business practices. Unfortunately, they dominate the industry in the area. They are punctual and have well kept equipment. Often times they are also the only parts supplier around with what one needs in stock. All that being said, it's worth taking the time to find your parts and/or service from someone who isn't out to rip people off; in my humble opinion. read more

My boyfriend and I were on a road trip from Maryland to Wisconsin (along with our pet parakeet) when our car's transmission gave out on the Pennsylvania turnpike. Luckily we have AAA and Herring Motors happened to be the place that our car was towed to. We had no money, no transportation, and not to mention we were 10 hours away from home in an unfamiliar place. We were completely stranded: on the phone with parents, grandparents, friends, just trying to find a way home and/or to pay for repairs on our car. At one point we went inside to ask if our car could stay in their lot overnight. I explained a little bit of our situation and asked if they had any advice since they knew the area. Adam, a man we had never met before, called Comfort Inn and got us a discount on a hotel room they usually reserve for truck drivers they service. Adam personally drove us (and our bird) to the Comfort Inn and spoke with the front desk to assure we received the discount. We have never had anyone do something so nice for a us, just a couple of strangers. This place turned around the worst day/situation of our lives just because. We can't possibly begin to thank Adam and the woman who helped us get ourselves settled. If it weren't for them we'd literally be sleeping either in our dead car or on the street tonight. Thank you guys from the bottom of our hearts! read more

Horrible! Was quoted $5 per mile over three miles to tow my jeep and $95 am hour to tow my pop up camper after I broke down on the Pennsylvania turnpike. From the time I called them to the time we arrived at the shop it took 58 minutes and was 15 miles. I was charged $70 for the jeep which was understandable but then was charged $142.50 for my camper. When I questioned why it was so high the driver became irate and threatening and told me that if I didn't pay what they wanted my jeep and camper would both be impounded. I paid him with a debit card and told him that I will dispute the charges because I was overcharged and he proceeded to say that I was being recorded. He made me and my children feel very uncomfortable and threatened. Don't use them they are scam artists! read more

We were involved in an accident in the Alleghany tunnel with multiple vehicles and thank goodness we were all ok. Herring came and towed us. Donovan and Ernie were amazing. The nicest gentlemen. My four year old was scared and they made it super fun for him. They truly made us feel like family. Great people. The shop is GORGEOUS for anyone that is into cars like my husband is. They also got there super fast even with the crazy storm coming. The next day I realized I forgot a very important medication and without him hesitation they went to my car in their lot, in the rain, found it, and brought to me. It seemed like only 5 min. I couldn't have asked for a better experience!!! Thank you so much!!!! You guys ROCK!!!! My little guy even gave Donovan a hug when he left. Such a great company. read more

Yesterday I slid off the road and need a tow truck to pull me out. I contacted AAA which sent out Herring Motors. The driver proceeded to tell my husband that AAA will only pay for a 2 wheel drive truck and 15 minutes of service. He said that he would need a 4 wheel drive truck plus a 2 wheel drive truck and 4 men to do the job and it would take an hour. He said that in addition to what AAA would pay the minimum cost would be $350. My husband called AAA and they said that they never heard of that. AAA called another local tow company to assess the situation and they removed my car with one truck and one man in less than 10 minutes. This company is a rip off. read more

Worst ever towing company in Somerset, over 2 hours late on AAA call. Only 8 miles away from them, this is because they do not care. ASK FOR THE NEXT IN LINE! Most people in town can tell you their personal "horror story" with this towing company. Over priced, over billing, excessive ...you have been warned!!! read more

You guys rock! Saved my ass. Bought a 1988 Chrysler Conquest TSi in Maryland and was driving it back home to Chicago. Two hours later after pulling over and having the steering pump go bad, car wont start. So its a almost 2am. Called a few places that I could find on my GPS, no one offered onsite assistance, these guys did. Came right over, less than 30 minutes, didn't even mention any prices, just asked what the problem was and stopped over. Driver came over, took a look for us, We were hoping for it to be the disconnected hydraulic line to the PS pump and he tried to reconnected it for us, unfortunately it wasn't the main problem. Car actually had the starter come lose so it wouldn't start. Driver offered to tow the car and fix the issue under one hour labor charge. Again, this all happened at 2 in the morning. Me and my buddy were able to get two hours of sleep on their nice comfy sofa's, they even kept the lights off for us. Charged me a fair price. Even though I was quoted an hour of labor + hook up charge, they took over two hours to fix the issue and I wasn't charged anything extra. Very friendly and helpful Thank you guys! read more

Worst and one of the few towing service in Somerset!!!!! ASK FOR THE NEXT IN LINE!!!! I was towed to Bplough's Auto repair on a Friday. There were no business hours posted at the business OR on their website to tell me if Bplough's repair cars and trucks on SATURDAY!!!! I had to find out the hard way from the desk clerk at the Motel I was staying at. The driver of the tow truck told me that they worked on Saturday!!! WRONG. I was looking at being stranded in Somerset until Monday until U-Save car rental came to the rescue rented me a car and told me the truth that it could be at least a week until my truck is repaired!!!! ASK FOR THE NEXT IN LINE DO NOT USE HERRING MOTORS FOR A TOW!!! read more

Broke down in PA. 2007 Isuzu box truck. 1 blown tire. Called Herring motors. They said they could come out and fix it in an hour. They located the tires. I agreed to the price. The tech shows up and doesn't know what he is doing. He even tells me this. I try to figure it out with him by looking up videos on you tube on the proper way to take the back dually off. He doesn't listen. Two more guys come out to help him. Both don't know how to do it properly. They strip the nuts and have to tow it to their shop. I have to stay overnight in somerset for 2 days on my own dime. They say they can't get the nuts and bolts till 3 days later. I head home to cleveland for work leaving the truck with them. When I am told it is ready and to come back 5 days later it isn't ready. I have to wait another 3 hours with my wife. Then I explain the situation to the owner who conveniently slips out. Ready to go finally. Bill is 1800.00. For two Chinese tires replaced over 5 days. I just got the other side replaced. 314.00 in thirty minutes. For the 2 tires. These guys are ripping people off. They take advantage of the truckers and trucking companies. Beware of them. read more

No star that's for sure!!!!! DO NOT GO HERE. IF YOU GET SUCKERED FOR A TOW BE READY TO GO INTO DEBT...GET EVERYTHING IN WRITING BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING !!!!! Then he asked us to step off our vehicle...as it ended up , it was too long for any of their tow trucks.....in other words they could not deliver. So he said we can send a mobile service..we agreed. He sends a tow truck anyway WTH..driver was super nice. He said he was going to by-pass our problem part so we can follow him to their shop. We did this. NO TOW. $150 service call. No problem. They charged me $300 for 20 minutes of work. My truck got stuck 1 mile from their office during business hours. I had no cell service so I just went with them since they were up the road. Never got a quote and they were finished and said oh that will be $300. I got a truck towed for 20 miles before and it was $120. Then they double charged my debt card.
