When you're in a business that deals with people who were in potentially traumatizing accidents…read morethat could've taken their life, it's a good idea to have workers that are sympathetic and understand that. But apparently, that's not a priority for SMT Towing. A little back story: I was run off the road by a semi truck on I-80, my car hit the cement median, bounced off the median and hit the semi, the semi's tires ripped off the front of my car and shot the car back into the median a second time, and then the car finally spun into the middle lane of I-80 and stopped. The car was absolutely totaled, but somehow I walked away without any injuries. After getting everything checked out at the ER, I called SMT to ask about getting some belongings from my car. On the other end of the call was THE RUDEST receptionist I've ever spoken to. I explained the situation to her, but instead of answering me about my belongings, she continued to nag me with insurance questions saying "We can't have your car sitting here for forever." DUH, LADY. I kept telling her the insurance companies are working everything out as we speak. What does that have to do with getting a few personal belongings out of my car?! The car's windows are gone! If it rains, my belongings are ruined. Not to mention other reviews I'd read online said items are often stolen from cars at SMT. I just wanted to get my stuff as soon as possible, but their horrible receptionist was the most frustrating road block. Finally, when we got to the point where I was asking her where SMT is located, she insisted on asking where I was coming from so she could "give me directions." Like, how 'bout you just give me an address?! Welcome to the 21st century, we have GPS. But no, she insisted on wanting to give directions. So if you're lucky enough to not be in an ambulance after your accident and you can call for a tow truck on your own, do not call SMT Towing. Their name should be changed to SMH Towing because this experience really made me Shake My Head.

We got a flat tire on our travel trailer on the interstate near SMTs office. Being from out of…read moretown, we were unfamiliar with any roadside assistance services in the area. Thanks to cellphones and Google, we found SMT after calling many other companies. All of the rest were either closed on Saturday, phones disconnected or they couldn't help. We were stuck on the inner shoulder of I80 outside of Chicago and it was a pretty stressful location to experience a flat. As luck would have it, the tire was facing traffic so we really needed some help to be safe. The receptionist, who admittedly wasn't the most friendly I've encountered, dispatched Frank who was pretty much a rockstar and he handled our situation professionally and quickly. Great guy with superb interstate safety skills. Thank you!
