We were looking to redo our driveway with pavers. After getting a few estimates for both concrete and pavers, Alfredo was the most reasonable and the difference in price was minimal between the pavers and concrete. He completed the job on time and on budget. Alfredo is very easy to work with. We did not know exactly what we wanted so we made changes along the way and he was very accomodating. He also gave us some really good ideas to solve a drainage problem. Oftentimes with contractors, you feel like you are pushed around and given not many options but with Alfredo, he always tries to listen to your needs and come up with a good soltution. He is honest, experienced, reliable and I higly recommend him. He gives free estimates too so if you are looking for nice paver work done, he's your guy! He also does outdoor lighting, landscaping, and concrete work too. He also did the back yard for us 3 years ago, again with pavers and it still looks great! Alfredo and his team did an AMAZING job on our paver project! They added about 1,000 feet of pavers, a stone wall and several steps. The work was done on time, with great attention to detail and on budget. I was in a bind when I called Alfredo (another landscaper had totally disappeared.) He answered his phone on a Sunday, quoted on Monday and started at the end of the week. Several times through the process he added suggestions that were invaluable from materials to layout. I highly recommend Alfredo and look forward to another project with him later this year! read more

Our Belmont property needed about 100 feet of fence installed, along with two gates. Plus, the concrete walkway along the side of the garage was cracked, and sloped towards the house (instead of away). Our request was to remove the old concrete and pour new, extending the paved section by about another 45 square feet. Alfredo was one of three firms to give us a quote. His price was in the middle. The factors that influenced us to select Alfredo's firm were: 1. His straight-forward manner and attentiveness while we scoped the work. 2. His was the only firm that was willing to do the necessary concrete work. 3. He gladly amended the quote to dig the post holes to 30 inches instead of the initial 2 feet (at no extra cost). 4. He followed up with me 2 - 3 weeks after he gave me the quote to gauge my continuing interest. Alfredo and his two workers showed up on the agreed-upon date and began working diligently immediately, ripping out the tangled mess of old fence, wire netting and overgrown ivy. It was truly a pleasure to watch these guys work. And as issues came up, Alfredo kept me in the loop so we could jointly problem-solve exactly how to resolve whatever the matter was. When the work was complete, they cleaned up the job site admirably, taking the debris with them. I have nothing but 100% satisfaction. I recommend this firm highly, and will keep Alfredo on my "speed dial" for the next outdoor project we do. read more

We called them based on Yelp reviews. Started good, Alfredo bid lower than 3 others for our small patio installation; said he'd do more excavation and thicker base rock. But he said it'd be done in 7 work days and a month later it wasn't. Worse, with the job more than 3/4 done he said he'd need almost 40% more money; wouldn't admit he'd measured wrong for the estimate but claimed the job was bigger and different than we agreed on. A small wall and lower tier walk he originally suggested, so it was part of his bid, he later said we'd added after he started--we didn't. Claimed materials cost much more; offered to show us the receipt, but then "couldn't find it." Said he had 15 people but never showed up with more than 3 and usually he didn't stay; average crew was 2. Never showed up before 11 am; average time was noon, but they did work past 6 pm several times. Alfredo did make several good design suggestions--or else it'd be one star--and suggested things after starting that sounded good, but he never said they'd also cost more. He contracted for "concrete" but mixed base rock with cement, that's not concrete. Said he'd seal the deck posts before putting pavers around them; he didn't. His guys were sloppy; they washed concrete dust and wet saw-cutting waste into our flower beds, killing one completely, broke our garden hose twice, and knocked a newly planted tree completely out of the ground. There is still concrete waste all around the edges. We told him we planned a pizza oven at one side; he said he'd put extra foundation in, enough to support anything we wanted there. When the oven arrived and we were negotiating installation--we acknowledged this was an added job--he said the paver patio wouldn't support it and he'd have to cut through to make a "concrete" foundation, but only if we paid the extra for the patio plus a high bid for the oven installation. We finally agreed because we wanted the job finished and cleaned up; gave him his price but said we would not pay until it was all done. He stopped working on the job, putting in a total of 1-1/2 hrs in the next 7 days, but kept telling us on the phone he was on his way or would be here tomorrow, but never showed up (he did this at least 5 times). We finally hired someone else to finish the job. Hire Alfredo but write a very detailed contract spelling out size of job, materials, costs, details, payment schedule and make it clear any changes have to be agreed to in writing. We had to finance the work as he went, not the usual contractor arrangement and not in our agreement. They do adequate work and Alfredo has good ideas, but we parted not happy on either side. read more

We hired Hernandez Landscape to redo our backyard and put pavers on the side of our driveway. We bought a fixer-upper house a couple years ago and the backyard had not been touched since the house was built. Alfredo, the owner, was always professional, patient with our questions and kind. The guys working for him were all very nice, very hard workers and we love our new yard. Alfredo returned phone calls promptly and was up front and honest about costs. The project was finished on schedule and cost was exactly what he said it would be, with payments outlined on the project schedule. We had old concrete busted up, a new drainage system put in, new sprinkler system, pavers put in (side driveway, a walkway and a patio), a retaining wall and a new lawn. He is an excellent problem solver and can find creative solutions to any construction challenge. Not only did he do some serious demolition and repave the driveway, but he also put in French drains, installed redwood fences and gates, completely rebuilt and tiled stairs, replaced lawn with new soil and mulch, installed irrigation and built a stone wall. This project was done in only 5 weeks with great attention to detail. Alfredo is a good communicator, consulting with me as we went through each phase of the project and letting me know when he would be on the worksite. I trusted him to make decisions that worked within our budget and to give me honest assessments regarding choice of materials. He made several design suggestions that integrated the landscape with the existing architecture in a very unique and attractive way. I rely on fellow yelpers for their reviews, and don't often write reviews myself. Being I found Alfredo due to his positive reviews, I feel compelled to let you know about my experience with his service. I found much of the positive things written by others about Alfredo to be true. He appeared to be quite trustworthy and likable during the bidding process, and he had great ideas during the planning stages. His quote was competitive with other licensed contractors, and I chose to go with him due to his positive yelp reviews and personality The job started on time and proceeded as planned during the demo phase and the beginning stages of job. . As the job proceeded, things began to change. I felt as though Alfredo overextended himself during my job, where he started arriving to the job later and later in the day, slowing the job down considerably, and missing deadlines. He also would send his crew to work unsupervised, and this is when very large mistakes happened, that lead to much of the finish work needing to be re-done, leading to even longer delays in finishing the job. I'm sure these large fixes cut significantly into his profit. I can assure you all that we never asked him to do anything that wasn't specified at the onset, and on the few occasions we did add something to the job, we always paid him extra for it. Once it became obvious that he wasn't making much money, his willingness to finish the job right changed, and getting things completed correctly became impossible. The unfortunate truth is, had he done the job right the first time, he would have made a fair profit on the job, and I wouldn't be sitting her writing this review right now. Here are things to consider before you hire him: 1; He does NOT have a contractors licesnse. Not a big deal when things go well, but you could be left holding the bag if things go wrong. Unfortunately, quite a few things went wrong during our job, and as his mistakes piled up, and his willingness to fix them changed significantly. By the end, after him having to spend considerable time and money fixing his mistakes, he refused to take any further responsibility for his mistakes, and it fell on me to figure out how to correct his errors. 2: be sure to get every minute detail of the job in writing. We had multiple disagreements through out the job where I had expectations on what was to be done, but his poorly written contract didn't specify it the way we talked about it during the bidding stage, then we would have to negotiate the terms again during the job. Needless to say, this was very aggravating. 3: ask for references to call and talk to that have had the exact work done that you wish to hire him to do. Being he isn't liscensed, he may not know how to do what you are hiring Him for. Our job required he install a decomposed granit path. I can assure you he does not know how to do this properly. 4: be sure to have the timeline in the contract. On our job he got spread too thin, and this is when things went wrong. Alfredo installed a paver path for us 7 years ago that has held up really well, even though we have not done the yearly maintenance needed (sealing and adding sand). Last summer, he installed two raised concrete vegetable beds and a new back patio of pavers. It looks great! He is really helpful with offering suggestions and came up with a creative way to integrate an existing planting bed, as well as installed LED low-voltage lights. He also installed a small fountain for us on a wall, and I am really looking forward to using this space as soon as the weather changes. His prices were reasonable and he was good at explaining how he came up with his estimate. We highly recommend him. read more

We recently hired Alfredo for a second time to do a landscaping project at our house. He completed a backyard renovation for us about four years ago, and we were so pleased with the outcome that when it came time to redo our front yard, we hired him again. We wanted to replace the (dead) grass in the front of our house with drought-tolerant landscaping. Alfredo worked with us to design a nice landscape that fit within our price point. He provided valuable input and gave suggestions throughout the project, which was greatly appreciated. The project took a few weeks longer than originally anticipated, but we are once again thrilled with the outcome. I hired Alfredo last Oct to pour a new foundation, install a foundation subdrain and tie-in a roof leader line, and to build a 2' tall header wall. Alfredo had great suggestions and his workmanship was good. He is a knowledgeable contractor with ability to do concrete/rebar dowelling work, drainage work and any landscape work. He did all of the work in 4-1/2 days, and swept the area clean after each work day. He powerwashed the area when the job was complete. Most importantly, he was competent, intelligent and had a good game plan. I recommend him and said that I would be happy to give him a referral. read more

Our goal for the summer was to transform our backyard into a place we want to spend time. Our plans included a large circular paving stone patio, new deck, concrete work, and drainage system. We did our homework on each project and took several bids. We felt very comfortable with Alfredo from the beginning and his bids were very reasonable. He looked at our patio design and suggested several enhancements which we liked very much. The enhancements did not change the agreed upon cost of the project. The drainage system includes a French drain and sump pump to move water away from the house. The new deck was constructed using high-end composite decking material. Alfredo was very responsive to all our calls and answered all of our questions along the way. The work was done on time and no additional costs were incurred during construction. Alfredo followed all accepted processes and practices. We were especially impressed with his attention to detail. Alfredo and his crew are a courteous, hardworking team and they kept our backyard clean and organized during construction. We love our new backyard and highly recommend Hernandez Landscaping and will call on Alfredo again for future projects. read more
