We brought it up, they sent Asanti (seriously good guy), he agreed there was a problem and in due course they made it good. This is what seperates sheep and goats. If I have any lingering quibble, it would be that it took a little longer than I might have liked, but the end result is all I could wish for.

The…read moresalesmen inspected inside the attic and videoed the entire roof and reported that there were no serious issues that needed immediate attention. We decided to replace it anyway to head off any future problems. I told them that my one hesitancy in signing the contract was the reviews I had read about absent project managers and subsequent problems. They guaranteed us that a project manager would be there the whole time to supervise the installation and provide us with ongoing pictures of the process. Even though their price was higher than some others, we decided that it was worth it to pay for this supervision and receive evidence of their workmanship. On the roofing day, the project manager texted that he would arrive at 8 a.m. Instead, he arrived as the crew was packing up to leave to collect our check. He got up on a ladder and fixed a cosmetic issue on the edge of the roof we pointed out to him, but never got on the roof itself to inspect the work. When it rained the next week, water began leaking into our attic around the chimney for the first time. Eventually, a member of the same roofing crew (not a manager) was sent to assess the problem. He reported that there was no problem with the flashing they installed, but that the chimney had several cracks in the mortar and we needed to find a mason right away. He had no answer when I asked how it could be that we had no previous leaks, that our original inspection did not report any cracks, and that no one noticed problems when roofing around the chimney. After several calls to the JP Carroll production number, I've learned not to expect the return calls "within 24 hours" that are promised. If they were even taken, my requests to receive the promised photos of the roofing process (as well as the original inspection video) have been ignored. Not only did I fail to receive the services that I paid for, but am left with a leaking roof that didn't leak before. I wish I had paid more attention to those negative reviews that I read.

It took a while for me, as a first-time homeowner, to understand that this meant I had a leak in the roof, because I thought it might somehow be a plumbing issue (it was a leak down the bathroom's exhaust vent pipe). The plumber said roofer. I found Manny because I was looking for someone to repair my front porch steps, and given that he was also a roofer, I asked him to give his opinion on what I hoped was a minor issue that could just be repaired, but it turns out that it needed a whole new roof, because the flashing around the pipe was bad, and with further inspection, turned out to be missing shingles, on top of THREE layers of roofing that they'd just kept putting more on. Manny made it easy to coordinate with the insurance company, and what a relief that they agreed to pay for the majority of the roof (but not the tower, which was actually the portion that was in the worst condition, but it wasn't storm damaged, just old). But his help in coordinating made it possible to get it all done, including repairing my front steps, because the cost would have been overwhelming without the insurance part of the equation. The workers were all so kind and helpful, particularly in maneuvering in the tight spaces that is my yard/driveway to get the trash to the curb on trash day around the dumpster in the driveway. Thankfully this work was completed in the winter so no worries about crushing blooms in my front garden, but I also appreciated how they put down tarps over all the plants to protect them, used nets to slide debris into the dumpster, and came back around to clean up after--including using a magnet to catch stray nails. I did unfortunately lose a blueberry bush and I'm a little worried about my blackberry canes, but overall they did their best and while I'd have preferred leaving my leaf mulch down, there's no way to distinguish between the leaf mulch and trash, so you shrug and deal with it. I'm sure the perennials will be fine come spring. As you can see from the pictures, my 1886 Victorian has quite a complicated roofline, and they were able to preserve the profile of the roof, put everything back where it ought to go, and then they'll be coming back in a couple of weeks to patch up the interior places where I originally realized there was damage.

We called our insurance company and then called Armor Shield to assess the damage. Armor Shield was there for us every step of the way. Dave from Armor Shield was at our house with the insurance company's inspector to ensure that they were fair and honest with their assessment. After it was determined that we would need our entire roof re-shingled, Armor Shield went to work. Dave came back to our house to explain the process and had us pick out the new shingle color. Stacy called me to schedule a date for the installation. They organized the materials and dumpster to be dropped off the day before the install. The day of the install the crew arrived around 8:00am and worked feverishly until the job was completed. By 2:30, they had everything cleaned up and they were on their way. They were fast, efficient, and the quality of workmanship was excellent. The following day the dumpster and remaining materials were picked up. Shawn worked with the insurance company to process the final payment and paperwork. Everything went smooth and seamless. I highly recommend Scott Tearman and his team at Armor Shield.
