Canton Inn - Nasty place has bed bugs infested every room

My husband are staying here while attending some family business in town. This is definitely an…read moreold establishment. The man in the office and the woman at the motel are very nice. We also have two well trained chihuahuas with us of which they are accommodating and is the primary reason I selected this place. We are staying in room #11. The floors, bedding, towels, and bathroom counter are clean. Not so much in the corners, window sills, walls, etc. Everything needs updated. The room has a coffee maker, little old fridge, a microwave and an old hair drier. The theme is old and well worn. The single package of coffee provided is the worst I have ever tasted and there is no where in the bathroom to plug in electric appliances like toothbrushes or curling irons. The TV works and there is free wifi but it is open & unprotected. I like to support small businesses in towns when visiting, but would not stay here again unless they do some serious renovations. It is overpriced at $55/night. I gave them 2 stars because of the very sweet attitude of the staff. Maybe they just don't realize how bad the rooms are?

This place is disgusting and needs shut down. She didn't seem concerned with the issue of bed bugs probably due to the constant drug activity out there. Never again. Got the 1 star bc I couldn't leave it blank.

Fantastic hotel with a charming nautical theme that fits perfectly given its proximity to the…read moreriver. From the moment we arrived, the staff were incredibly welcoming, friendly, and quick to help with any request-- they even accommodated our group meeting across their two buildings, providing a spacious, comfortable room for us to socialize. The room was cozy and well-appointed, with a convenient in-room coffee maker (perfect for grabbing a quick cup before heading down for breakfast). While the closet and bathroom are on the smaller side, they were perfectly adequate for a weekend stay. The shower had great water pressure--no weak trickle here--and though the shower head sits at about 6ft, as a 6'2" guest I found it just a touch short, but not enough to be an issue. Bed was comfortable and room was clean. Amenities are a real highlight. The pool is fantastic: a clever half-indoor, half-outdoor design that, in March, makes the indoor section especially welcoming. Breakfast was excellent, offering biscuits and gravy, made-to-order eggs, a pancake machine, cereal, yogurt, fresh fruit, and coffee in both bold and mild roasts. The location is also ideal--just steps from the river and marina, perfect for a scenic walk. One fun detail: don't miss ringing the big bell at the front desk--I couldn't resist! The only minor drawback is that the hot tub is currently out of service, but it's hardly a deal breaker. Overall, a highly recommended spot for a relaxing weekend or group stay. Small bar in lobby, already booked September stay. I saw post about maid service, for short stays you can request daily otherwise it every 3 days and is posted in bathroom.

Wait time was horrible to get into the rooms. No apologies, Hotel was run down and not very clean. Pool broken down, toilets not flushing . But if the staff had been friendly it would have been slightly better...I don't see this place in business much longer.

And, a Special Shoutout to Aiden who printed out our boarding passes for us since the business center is in transition. His care and compassion was evident and we appreciated it. While our room is non-smoking (thankfully- because nothing in the booking site indicated that there were smoking and non smoking rooms), the rooms across the hall are smoking rooms and the entire hallway reeks of both cigarette and marijuana. When I stopped at the desk to advise that someone was smoking she advised that smoking is allowed here and that she believes they may be the last Hampton branded property that allows it- she mentioned complaints on the other floors as well because I had initially suggested we might prefer to move to a non-smoking floor. There apparently isn't one. It's too bad because the location of the property is good, too. She said the policy is "unclear" on pot- so if you're a smoker (herbal or otherwise) this may be a great option for you. If you're sensitive to smoke, I advise booking elsewhere. On the plus side - The pool and fitness facilities are clean and well maintained as is the lobby and our room- no complaints there - and staff is friendly and helpful.

I've visited Galesburg a few times in the past to visit my fiancé who lives in Altona, and this is…read morethe first time I've stayed in this hotel. Normally I stay in the Holiday Inn, but for the week I was staying, I noticed it was going to cost wayyyy more than normal. So I tried something new. First we'll do the pro's. As I mentioned, it was cheaper. I was staying for about a week, and country inn & suites was about $300 cheaper for the week, and that's staying in a suite as opposed to a regular room. So that's crazy and pretty good. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful, lots of fun. The pool and spa are really nice. The room was clean, the bed was comfortable. It's a pretty nice place overall. The cons are just nitpicks that could use attention. First, the bathtub has a problem keeping up with the water. The tub slowly fills as you're taking a shower, which is a little annoying. Second, the walls are paper thin. Which is hard to criticize because I know they can't really do much about that, but just know that before you buy. You can clearly hear a conversation in the hallway, though I never heard neighbors; only outside in the hallway. The wifi was also extremely touchy. In and out like crazy, destroyed my data over the week. Just small things to notice, but overall it's well worth the price. I'd recommend it!
