You shouldn't go hungry from the offered selection but you may have difficulty getting bread or bagel toasted. Guests constantly complain about it and it has never gotten fixed. Yes it's annoying. You're in a hurry, you're hungry, you're making other people wait, etc. I mean, what's the cost of a couple good-working toasters?

My friend made the mistake of putting the $50 hold on her credit card. When I tried to check out at 6 AM (friend was sleeping), I wasn't able to pay for her room because of this $50 charge on her card. What?? The early morning clerk was a young lady with no knowledge and no power. She offered to call her manager but at 6 AM that seemed like a bad idea. I knocked on my friend's door but she was still sleeping. So for this little simple thing, we were very inconvenienced and it took me too long to get going on the road. I just opened my credit card bill two weeks later to find that $50 security charge on my card still there. I had to call this morning and they told me they didn't know anything about it. They removed it, they said but I don't see it. They advised me to call my bank. Sure, I should spend a long time on the phone because on their policies? No, thanks. I don't know if I would stay here again. I don't want to have to go through all the hassles and phone calls to pay. Seems as though the company could simplify this somehow.

While the closet and bathroom are on the smaller side, they were perfectly adequate for a weekend stay. The shower had great water pressure--no weak trickle here--and though the shower head sits at about 6ft, as a 6'2" guest I found it just a touch short, but not enough to be an issue. Bed was comfortable and room was clean. Amenities are a real highlight. The pool is fantastic: a clever half-indoor, half-outdoor design that, in March, makes the indoor section especially welcoming. Breakfast was excellent, offering biscuits and gravy, made-to-order eggs, a pancake machine, cereal, yogurt, fresh fruit, and coffee in both bold and mild roasts. The location is also ideal--just steps from the river and marina, perfect for a scenic walk. One fun detail: don't miss ringing the big bell at the front desk--I couldn't resist! The only minor drawback is that the hot tub is currently out of service, but it's hardly a deal breaker. Overall, a highly recommended spot for a relaxing weekend or group stay. However, the owners are apparently desperate for money or just greedy. Due to an error in scheduling, we reserved the wrong weekend to come up and see our son stationed in that area, admittedly our fault. After calling many, many numbers to try to resolve this issue and simply change our dates to the very next weekend we were told that the owner has denied our request and claimed that the hotel was booked for the upcoming requested weekend. I went online and reserved a room for that same weekend that is supposedly unavailable, so obviously not booked. Didn't submit... So, my thought is now, do we want to stay at a place that will willing/knowingly treat people this way. I never asked for a cancelation or refund just to please reschedule us, we want to come, wanted to stay there, looked nice but not if this is how they treat their potential guest. And forget asking for a refund, nonexistent, complete refusal, not even a partial. As I said, greed at its best, but to lie and say there are no available bookings for the requested weekend, just sad and rude. Airlines aren't even this bad! Thanks for ruining a short trip to see our homesick kiddo.

The breakfast option here sets it apart from other options with a spread of hot items as well as pastries and cereals. They also have both full size and mini waffle irons and a complete topping bar. Anytime we stay in Macomb, this is our preferred hotel location.

When I stopped at the desk to advise that someone was smoking she advised that smoking is allowed here and that she believes they may be the last Hampton branded property that allows it- she mentioned complaints on the other floors as well because I had initially suggested we might prefer to move to a non-smoking floor. There apparently isn't one. It's too bad because the location of the property is good, too. She said the policy is "unclear" on pot- so if you're a smoker (herbal or otherwise) this may be a great option for you. If you're sensitive to smoke, I advise booking elsewhere. On the plus side - The pool and fitness facilities are clean and well maintained as is the lobby and our room- no complaints there - and staff is friendly and helpful.

I happened to get a couple of rooms now, in 2021, while visiting WIU for graduation, and was impressed at the change. I had actually driven up to the hotel, willing to accept it as I remembered it from 4 years ago; it turned out be much, much nicer. No more smoky smell - in fact the entire hotel smells clean and fresh. The carpets have been replaced,and new paint throughout. New furniture, furnishings, appliances and ACs in the rooms. The entire staff is hard-working, friendly and approachable. The manager/host is clearly engaged in the performance of the hotel, and it's easy to see, since he is always present in person, working alongside the staff. (side note - this hotel turned out to be even nicer than the Quality Inn and Suites in Kansas City, MO. That place was the exact opposite, but that's the subject of another review).
