Finally had a chance to check out Luna Sea lounge last week. Location is perfect ... right around…read morethe corner from Walnut Creek BART but also plenty of street parking. The place was crowded but could still get a table. I got the "Syndicate" ... great blend of sweet and spicy. I planned on trying something else but it was so good I went back to it again. Highly recommend.

Cool bar hiding in plain sight on Pringle. From the sidewalk you would swear they were closed, and…read morethen the door opens and you are somewhere else entirely. Blue neon arches, a huge underwater mural, plush chairs and low tables along the back wall. Worth the detour. Chris was working the bar on his second day and greeted us like a regular. I skipped my usual Manhattan and went with the Smoke Break, bourbon with bitters, smoke and black cherry. He nailed it. That is the one I would order again. Kudos to Chris for making the smoke linger and make the drink taste fantastic. I had this one in Oregon and it was cool but Chris did a better job with his method that really did serious justice to the name. My wife wanted the Cucumber Cooler, but they were out of cucumber. She pivoted to Sauvignon Blanc, and they were out of that too. The wine list runs four whites and four reds, so there is not much room to maneuver if the cocktails are not your thing. Chris read the situation, offered up a Paper Airplane since she wanted something refreshing, and put it on the house. Classic good bartending. It was louder than expected for how few people were in the room. On a Saturday with a DJ, music and dancing, I would guess the volume gets close to a rave. Go Tuesday or Wednesday if you want to hear the person across from you, and you will probably catch them fully stocked. My guess is weekends clean them out. Cocktails run 16 to 18 dollars. There is also a 300 dollar tequila and cognac number called La Maria served in a glass rimmed with gold dust, if you have something to celebrate. Happy hour is Tuesday through Friday, 3 to 5. They are on the ground floor of the Waymark apartments at 121 Pringle Ave with a small patio out front and heaters. Great spot to hang out and talk with friends, and a good pre dinner or post dinner stop rather than a destination for the whole night. When those doors shut you are transported somewhere neat. I would go again.

I've spent a bit of time here playing cards and had very good experiences. The rules are clearly…read moreestablished (and available on the website) and dealing done very, very well. The guy in charge of the room (or co in charge) is a smart, friendly guy really one top of his stuff. The poker room is usually 3-6 most nights, but on Mondays does a no limit cash game, 1-2 with a 100 dollar buy in. As with all places that have a purpose other than just poker (even with games like Pai Gow or Double Hand) action here is good because you get people that are gambler types or have less experience. Players will actually come here from Kelly's on Mondays because the game is run so much better. The room also has a large monthly tournament and a monthly freeroll. It's very crowded on freeroll days with some 50 total players and alternates that hop in when the people lose their stacks early on. It's a nice little sports bar nearby, like much of Antioch, modest and very down to earth. Drink prices are good, people are easy to talk to. Despite their being a bit of a scene like most bars, it doesn't have a very exclusive feel. The bar is on the edge of a strip mall with ample parking and near a bus stop (a good idea if you live in Antioch or are staying there and want to drink a lot). I've played here many times and it's always been such a refreshing experience compared to Kelly's because it's run perfectly. They also have a M-Th tournament in which I haven't played, but if other tournaments and games are any indication, it's probably done very well.

My husband is a regular here which made this experience especially disappointing. The bar was not…read morebusy, yet we waited several minutes for service. Instead of coming over, the bartender loudly told us to come to her, then mocked my husband to other patrons for trying to get her attention. I felt uncomfortable, canceled my drink, and we chose to leave. The only reason I didn't tell her about herself is because my husband comes here often since it's local. We will likely return, but if she is the only server, we will definitely leave.
