Upon returning the furniture, almost a year later he proceeded to tell us he would not recommend sitting in the furniture because it may not hold. I told him if I had known this I would not have had him do any of the work, which I also told him not to do. After i complained he changed his tune to say it would be okay to sit in. I wanted these chairs to be renewed but without destroying their late 1800s character. I opted for a green velvet. I was confident that Mary would take good care of these chairs when she saw them and got excited about the restoration. These chairs turned out beautiful - Mary restored the springs, batting and straps to preserve the firm but comfortable seating. The velvet and piping work are beautiful. He charged $400 for this. I was shocked. Foam will compress after time and I assumed he would use a better material. I called him to discuss, and he said he was sorry I felt this way. Today, my five year old accidentally pulled one of our shades too hard and it become detached from the roller mechanism. I called Alexander Blank and one of their wonderful installers was at my house within 30 minutes (and at the end of the workday). He was able to fix it and even looked at the other shades in the house and tweaked them to make sure they were working as well as possible.
