So there's a habit I have with delis and oldtimer joints like this one; I get a club sandwich with a green side (salad, Cole slaw, etc.) and either a pastry or a light dessert, depending on the locale. This gives me a pretty good sense of the menu, or so I tell myself, and from there I branch out into other entrees. So the club here was good, served on oat wheat bread with crispy bacon and fresh layers of turkey, cheese and veggies. The chips that come with it were stale and oily. The Cole slaw was chilled with just enough juice, southern style at its finest. The cobbler dessert was poorly presented, with too much crust and overly bitter blackberries. The whole meal felt like it was canceling itself out, really. One of my fellow diners offered me their zucchini, which was fantastic, and raved about the burger. Another complained about the dryness of the chicken, but enjoyed their tea. The only area Herb's consistently fails is in presentation. The servers (a family, it seemed) were quick, polite, and good with recommending items, but you have to get your own drinks at times, and there's a ridiculous amount of dead flies in the summer months. Didn't bother me so much, but I grew up on low-rent Cajun and regularly eat truck stop food, so my apathy beats my inner germophobe 4/5x. That said, a little fly paper in a discreet corner or two would go a long way. Overall, I'd eat here again, but I'd stick with the veggie plate and maybe a burger, and it'd probably be take out. read more

I had the Sandy Dandy deli sandwich for lunch and enjoyed it. Lots of ham, turkey, sliced cheese, and fresh veggies. 1/2&1/2 ice tea was just right. My coworker had a cheeseburger and fries. He was satisfied as well. 1 block off the main drive- well worth driving past the fast food restaurants. read more

Went to this cafe because people said it was good. The food was good for the cost. I was not impressed with the decor. There was dust coating uniforms and walls needed repair. Just really great. It's burgers are very flavorful and the fries are amazing. The BLT sandwich is absolutely fantastic as well. The nachos and tacos are both so darn amazing I can't wrap my head around the taste and texture. All around an amazing AMAZING southern restaurant. Herb's has been serving good food in Ashdown for a long time! They have good hamburgers. I had the chicken salad sandwich the last time I was in town and it was great. My wife and I ate here on the last day of 2016 for lunch. She had the hamburger and fries. I had the special, potato soup and a grill cheese sandwich. They were both great. It is what it is. Local cafe specializing in fried food. We were looking for a casual lunch place While on vacation. The Texarkana bypass took us away from restaurants there so we stopped at Herb's in Ashland. We were the only non-locals there the service was friendly, the prices as low as Burger King. I had the BLT and fried okra, my husband had a burger and Cajun fries. Everything was cooked to order and homemade and hot. The place is somewhat the worse for wear but we enjoyed our lunch. Don't go looking for heart healthy, but to enjoy a good old fashioned fried food lunch! read more

Too many children working here, was treated very rudely I called in an order and drove through to pick it up. The little girl that came to the window was very coned ending in telling me 25 minutes after I called in my order that it would b another 10-15 minutes so I drove around back and parked, I heard two other employees that were taking out trash mutter "well who calls in an order a On a Friday night anyway" so I ran an errand I had to go do. When I came back the little girl ,again very condescending told me it would be about ten more minutes. I told her cancel my order and I have not been back since. read more

My grandparents and I have been going to this place for years. When the Ashdown Jamboree was open, we'd leave our house way early just so we could go to Herb's and enjoy the food. The people are so sweet. There is such a sense of Southern Hospitality there. Even though my family doesn't come in on the regular, the people know us. If I come in without Papa, they always are kind enough to ask about him. One of the reasons I picked a pediatrician from Ashdown was so that my daughter and I could continue on the with the tradition of eating at Herbs! I always order a char cheese burger, cajun fries with nacho cheese on top and a cherry coke. Oh, and they have the little bitty cubed ice like Sonic has. I would really recommend going there. Another good thing is that as you wait, there are these neat posters and old Ashdown Panthers letterman's jackets, sweaters, cheerleading outfits, so on hung up everywhere. Bathrooms are always clean and smelling good. read more
