Love that free tap water is offered and blankets to sit out on the lawn. Friendly staff. Also loved the seed, fruit and nut bar: dense but not too sweet and no extra sugar.

Duck behind the main drag and trot through the lovely open space of the cathedral grounds and you'll be rewarded with Devon's best coffee roasted locally in Axminster; light and fruity but still kicks like a horse to get you buzzing like a (horse)fly. Like the inside of a hive, warm and cozy, busy; creative salads on display looked wholesome with rainbows of taste. The imaginative selection on offer also extended to their freshly baked variety of cleverly 'snuck in vegetable' cakes too, courgette and chocolate, of course there must've been a carrot and their almond and lemon polenta looked moist too. However the award surely has to go to their Handbags-at-Dawn, fight inciting Beetroot and Raspberry cake. I saw the last slice go merely moments after elevenses yesterday and today on my coffee run, I noticed the chief cook had responded to demand with a double bake. The only wrangling to be done really is to get there early enough to see the array on offer earlier in the day and if you can't decide what to have, just have both. A great wall of local info on display too, like yoga classes, theatre and other loveliness. Lot's of seats outside great for groups, so would be even lovelier with some eco-friendly outdoor heaters when the sun's not out, or even just a canopy. The wet seats outside may have dissuaded a group visit, but they'll be back.

Jasmine Thai Restaurant - The vegan combo (red curry with tofu, rice, veggie spring rolls, and stir fried veggies)

Visiting from the US, and this is the first spot that I found to have exceeded my expectations. The…read moreindoor setting is pleasant, the food here is delicious, and the service efficient. I got the Vegan combo, which came with vegan egg rolls, stir fried veggies, and red curry with tofu. These were all very tasty, and in my opinion, tofu tastes better than meat in curry as it doesn't try out and become rubbery. They do close between 14:30 to 18:00 (2:30pm to 6pm), so try to come for proper meal times. Highly recommend this place.

The location on Fore Street, on the southern edge of the centre, is not the location you might expect to find a good restaurant, but it's clear on entering that a lot of thought and investment has gone into the venue. The welcome was warm and friendly but not over-familiar - and we were seated and served very quickly. The choice covers a range of familiar Thai dishes, with vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options clearly labelled. The meat is sourced with care - ie free range and local. Staff were happy (within reason) to adjust the spiciness of dishes to suit Our food was very good - my Tom kha soup was excellent - fragrant and flavourful - and both a green curry and ginger stir-fry similarly impressed. Fish-cakes were a little disappointing but, overall, we were very happy with the dining experience. Overall, two courses with drinks came to £45. I'd be very happy to recommend it and happy to return.

Taco Macho

Taco Macho

Let's start with something very important to a review of a Mexican (strictly burrito) place in the…read moreUK; I'm American with about fifteen years in the food industry on the perpetual hunt for great food. Taco Macho is a hidden gem, and it shouldn't be surprising that it's the #1 place to eat in Exeter on TripAdvisor. Although I've constantly complained to him about how long it takes to make a burrito, it's also my fault because we're both talkers. He makes all his ingredients fresh, and hand picks all his ingredients because (we've discussed this) he'd rather pay more for supplies that are of a better quality which means he needs to do his shopping instead of going through a supplier. For about £7 you get a burrito that is the best you're going to find (I'll have another review of the taco place in London later) in the UK, I've searched. They're American sized burritos, and absolutely DESTROY the other "Mexican" place across the river, and is the third best burrito I've ever had; the two others are no longer in business and were toward Columbia MD, and the other was in York PA. The flavor is very well balanced and have a nice combination of spice and occasionally citrus notes. Many of the Brits have turned up their nose, and the only reason I've been able to put together is because they're not used to an abundance of flavor in their food - That's not a jab a British food, but an observation from living there for about two years. There are beef, chicken, and sometimes vegan/vegetarian options but that may change in the future; I've never asked about veggie options. Overall, the hours are short (about 1100-1600 Tuesday-Saturday, but that may have changed), so call ahead and hopefully the number provided is both accurate and if it's accurate hopefully he'll pick up; check Facebook for up-to-date hours. If you go in, you could probably tell him the Gringo that was always in flannel sent you, and you won't regret it. However, if you find a better burrito in the UK, somebody needs to tell me because I don't think it's going to happen. Hopefully that was helpful. Keep on eating.
