THIS LOCATION used an illegal sealant on my oil pan! The next time I went for an oil change on a trip to Florida. a BMW dealership showed me a video of the illegal sealant and said they couldn't drain the fluid and I had to replace the whole thing for $3300. Herbert automotive denies this and they also performed a brake flush in March that I did not ask for; I can't prove anything; all I have is my word. But I KNOW when I bought the car, where I've had oil changes, and when it occurred. They are lying lowlifes. read more

I brought my truck in to have the cat pipe changed in it. I provided the part it was an oem part. they installed and about a couple of weeks later the truck was not running right, took it to the dealer they told me there was a leak at the the cat pipe and manifold. so I took my truck back to Herberts and they said they could not find the leak. So my truck sat in my d way for two and a half weeks putting in different sensors and electrical throttle body trying to figure out the problem, before I could finally have a Machanic come look at it and sure enough there was a leak at the cat pipe. We took it apart and it seems when the pipe was replaced a new gasket was never installed So the leak got worse over time, a very short time. The old gasket was in the new pipe. Great job Guys you could have been honest and told me. Even if my part did not come with one which I don't know you could have told me and put a new one anyway. Paid good money there to fix my truck and spent a lot more trying to figure out what the problem was. I'll find a new place to bring my 4 other vehicles from now on. read more

Had my emissions test done here today. It is a pull up/ drive-thru bay. You enter in from the back side of the building. It took less than 10 minutes for them to run the inspection, so I was in and out in no time! The cost for the test is $25 even. read more

The service I got from Herbert was great! Communication wasnt great at all. I dropped of a vehicle because the brakes locked up all the way around and I was a mile from Herbert. I dropped it off on a Thursday with no appt. I called Friday to see what was going on and was told "we're getting there". Called Tuesday and was told it would be ready Wednesday, but it was actually ready Tuesday night. Picked up Wednesday and the same issue happened,locked up. Called Herbert and they sent a tow truck to take it back and Jacob came and took us home in his personal vehicle. I've never had that kind of service! I have had to call them twice because they never got back to me with an update, until I called hours later, when I could have been informed much sooner. Avoid ! For about 20 years we have looked to Herbert Automotive as a trusted source for all of our cars basic service needs. We always found them honest and considered them a part of our community. That unfortunately is no longer the case. We had hoped that when they were acquired by a larger company, their values and service would continue. We unfortunately learned lately that they can not be trusted and their mark ups our beyond normal business margins. After a simple oil change - our daughter had a check engine light come on. She took it back to Herbert and they said the fault code indicated ignition coils and spark plugs. They charged her over $900 for new spark plugs and ignition coils. The spark plug they used would cost over the counter about $19 each - they marked each up to $50. The labor was only 1.5 hours and the ignition coils could be purchased for under $200 retail. We are all for businesses to make a profit - but when you mark up that high and take advantage of your customers you are not continuing to operate a trustworthy business. read more

This is a unique center in many ways. it has always been courteous, professional, accurate, and reasonable. even though they do not take appointments they are very solid in giving you an estimate on when your vehicle would be serviced and how long it would take. What I really want to speak to you about today is your center manager. Rarely have I run into a person who seems to be so superior across the board in function. Dave has a solid vehicle knowledge that helps the customer not only feel comfortable about the service to be performed but understand how your repair need relates to the whole function of the vehicle. Additionally he remembers people by name and not just at a superficial level but at enough depth to have one feel that you are not just a number but a person. If one talks to parts places in the area, you will also find that they have respect for Dave as well. Although it is never in front of customers, Dave seems to have a very strong rapport with staff. Outstanding service with a smile for sure. IF you live in the Cumming area and you are not taking your car/truck here for service you are missing out. Called about oil change was told it would be about 20-25 minutes. Good estimate, got there and had them do the service 15 minutes later car was done and ready to go. The unique thing about this place is the high level of professionalism from the Manager, Chip; and his staff. They are a very squared away bunch of technicians, polite and clean cut. Felt very good the whole time I was there. Chip's staff was the consummate professionals I have been use to working with during my time in the Navy on Submarines. I would go to sea with any of these guys in a heart beat. Chip is also a Navy Veteran so I can see the training we both have received has rubbed off on his staff. I had taken my vehicle to Herbert automotive since I moved here 5 years ago. The Canton Rd location in cumming changed management and the service has gone down hill. Last time I went I asked them to look at my brakes due to a grinding noise which the manager told me were new and did not need to be replaced. I had to return 2 weeks later with the grinding noise worse only to be told that I was metal on metal and not only need new brakes but rotors also. Asked them about the leak I was having at the same time which I was told again by the manager that it was old oil from the pan I had no leaks whatsoever. After sitting in my garage for a few days and an obvious leak, I went to a different shop only to hear I have a transmission fluid leak. Obviously Herbert automotive needs to address the managers lack of either knowledge or desire to work. I will never take any of my vehicles here again and have already passed word onto my friends to look elsewhere. read more

This place is great. They're constantly fixing up little breaks for free. Their lobby is really awesome. Lots of nice drinks and candy for free. Overall pricing is always reasonable. Sometimes the guys in the garage can be a little condescending when you're talking about your car issues to them. As someone who knows nothing about cars and who has no interest in ever knowing anything about cars, I don't appreciate the weird looks I get when I don't know how to answer some of their questions. I have been taking my car to Herbert Automotive on Castleberry Rd for years. I was always impressed by their workmanship and honesty. However, recently I had a "not so good" interaction. I was not aware that all Herbert Automotive's were sold, name and all, and it reflects in their service. They had my car 3 weeks and the only correspondence I received was when I went there. My car was left outside and unlocked. I was finally told it was a transmission problem and they didn't do transmissions. I paid $1,000 for a Toyota wheel bearing to go in my front driver side within three months the bearing blue on the interstate causing $2,000 worth of damage to my brakes caliper rotor and wheel bearing. Since I had moved to another state they refuse to pay for anything to fix it. I ended up bringing it to a reputable trucks shop and come to find out they put in a wheel bearing for a 4 wheel drive Toyota Tundra not a 2 wheel drive Toyota Tundra which explains why it didn't last long because the four-wheel drive bearing is different. Today, however, got my emissions test done about 1 and the guy said they were open until 3 so I raced home 5 miles away and got back 20 minutes before 3 and the guys were all still there but said sorry we are closing early today. They've been my repair and service shop since I moved to Cumming in 1994. They are fair and don't treat me like a dumb girl. They serviced my last car until I sold it and I have used them for my 2005 Toyota since it was new to avoid dealer service costs and inconvenience. Wow!! I needed an oil change and alignment done and since I'm new to town did not know the best place to go. Herbert automotive is right down the street from my house it was completely convenient as they did both the things I needed. I was greeted by a very friendly staff member that said they could take me immediately and would be about an hour and then escorted me inside. Inside I found juices and coffee snacks candy all over the place in pretty bowls with comfortable seating and the TV on Fox news. I had a comfortable way which turned out to be less than an hour and my bill I was just slightly over $100. They didn't try to sell me anything extra or tell me 1 million things that were wrong with my vehicle they did the services is asked our professional and friendly. They have my business. read more

They miss diagnosised over charged and failed to touch my warranty I have on my car, and in the end failed to give me a full refund. Took car in for alignment. When they were through with it every service light in the vehicle was on. Told me they couldn't fix and sent me to the dealership for a software download. Dealership said software didn't have anything to do with it. Contacted Herbert again they said bring it back and they'd look at it. Said it would take half a day, they'd have to fit me in. I experienced what can only be called a rip-off attempt at the Herbert Automotive location off Keith Bridge Road (Hammonds Crossing). I was told by the shop manager that my catalytic converters (2) needed to be replaced. He also told me that my vehicle was misfiring on cylinder 6 but that there was no way for him to truly diagnose that problem until the cats were replaced....to the tune of $1700. Being the smart consumer I try to be, my husband immediately started calling other shops and Herbert's was about 20% higher than other shops in the area. But luckily a call to a family member who knew a little about cars led us to question Herbert's diagnosis. Once I started questioning, the manager's tone changed an he started talking to me like an idiot, almost belittling me for not just taking his word for it. He used scare tactics when I told him I'd just take it to another shop, but thankfully I listened to my family member and left. The sad fact is that Kevin Herbert (owner) actually owns several shops around the Cumming area. I found this out after going to the local Handy Lube to have them take a look at the car - and guess which shirts they were wearing - Herbert Automotive!! Taylor at the Handy Lube told me that he'd already spoken to the shop manager at Herbert's and basically told me that he wouldn't touch my car b/c he trusted the diagnosis that his other location had given. Thankfully my family member referred me to another shop for a full inspection and that's where I learned that there was NOTHING wrong with my catalytic converters, but I did have a bad coil that was causing the misfire on 6. A simple $400 tune-up completely fixed the issue and my converters are fine. Now, had I left it with Herbert's, I'd have spent $1700 to replace converters that were fine to begin with...and then who knows what he would have charged for the tune-up to replace the coil (which was the problem to begin with) The only good experience that I had was with the nice lady who answered the phone and the nice service tech that helped me get my car to the shop safely to begin with. To those two employees - thank you for your kindness and for treating my like a human. To the manager at the Keith Bridge location and Taylor at the Handy Lube (also owned by Herbert) - I pray that you will treat your customers with honesty and not take advantage of women who clearly don't know the truth from the false that you are trying to sell. All I can say to anyone who reads this post - if the mechanic's shirts say Herbert - Buyer Beware!!!! read more

Beware folks.... I took my truck in to have a front end issue repaired. It turned out that they cut the boot on my CV Axle while doing the repair. I was told they would fix it and the work could be done that day. They said they would replace it with a GENUINE TOYOTA PART. That was important to me since I use and rely on my truck (4x4 for hunting/fishing off road) and wanted the original parts replaced. Well, long story short, here I am 8 months later having issues with it. I took it to a local shop here (THAT I ACTUALLY TRUST) and not only is the axle leaking fluid, IT IS NOT A TOYOTA PART NOR IS IT THE CORRECT PART FOR THE TRUCK. It is an axle for something completely different....what a joke. I used to trust these guys for all of our repairs. NEVER AGAIN. I am not even bothering taking it back to them to have it repaired because I know they will either say "it is out of warranty" or "we didn't put that axle in it". Stay away.... read more
