I miss Soapy, but she deserved to retire. Her replacement Bubbles, had big paws to fill and she's doing a great job. As soon as we entered, she came galloping from the back stockroom to do a meet and greet. She's a sweetie. As I said in my previous review, I am a "bar hopper". I like to go around and support a variety of locally owned handcrafted soap boutiques. Since I moved to Illinois five years ago, I've been shopping on the east side of the river. Since I was having on The Hill, I made a point to shop, Herbaria The one thing that was on top of my list, Shave Soap. When shaving, I prefer a good lather from a shave soap over a cream or cream. Herbaria has several scents to choose from and I chose, Bay Rum and Jojoba. I am looking forward to my first shave with my new bar. I also bought a bar of Soapy's Choice. In the past, I've had very furry long haired dogs in the past, but now I have two Chihuahua mixes and they have very short fine hair. So, I thought I'd give Soapy's Choice a try. I'm sure my little girls are going to like showering with daddy. My other bar of soap was, Citrus Oatmeal. I love a good oatmeal soap, it invigorates my skin. To help my new bar last longer in the shower I bought a, Soap Lift. I liked that they had a good selection of colors, I grabbed a grey to match the colors in my primary en suite. The sales associates are personable and not high pressure. They are there to assist you, answer questions and to make recommendations. With their good customer service and Bubbles puppy dog eyes, I guarantee you will not walk out empty handed. When: January 13, 2026 Why: Shave Soap and more read more

We were eating next door and I saw this cute store on the way in and had to stop before going home. We were greeted by the most adorable dog and a friendly staff member who offered me a tour and a free sample. The products smell amazing and I was surprised at the variety, loofahs, deodorants, lotions, doggy soaps, soap dishes and more. The scents aren't scant either, there are plenty to choose from. I really enjoy that they have shea butter in them and all the ingredients are natural and not a bunch of chemicals. When checking out I asked about online ordering and was given a coupon to use online. The staff member working today remained friendly and upbeat and seemed genuinely excited about their products. It is always nice to buy from small local shops where there is genuine joy and love for their product. I am so happy that I came across this store and will definitely be returning. read more

You will be braced by the aroma when entering the elegant store which has their own workshop in the back. The staff Abby was very nice to give us a short and detailed tour when we just wondering in the store, most because cute dog is welcoming guests at door :) Kid gets free cut off soap and guest received soap sample too. We end up with a small bottle of Eucalyptus oil and Citrus room spray, both very strong and nice natural aroma! Will definitely go back sometime to get more all nature soap products:) read more

I was very impressed with this handmade soap shop located on The Hill. Melissa gave us a tour of the back of the shop where they make the various types of soaps. Be sure to check out the upstairs studio. You will be able to see a very unique view of the church across the street. The Luffa Soaps are fabulous. read more

Ive been wanting to visit this store since reading about them in Sauce magazine. Home-made soaps, shampoo bars, laundry detergent, and dish soap all in one convenient place. I have sensitive skin and lots of allergies so Im always on the look-out for natural soaps. Very friendly staff offering tours to every customer. They have a dog curled up in his own chair by the door. Tour includes samples of their products and reasons to use them instead of the artificially fragranced/toxic store bought brands, very insightful. Free bees with multiple purchases. I purchased one of everything and am mailing out gifts as I write this. I plan on being a frequent healthier customer. read more

I wanted a unique party favor for my daughter's baby shower. I found Herbaria on Yelp and went to the store. Immediately when I walked in I was greeted by Bubbles the dog. The whole staff was courteous s d knowledgeable. We even did the tour. I asked questions about the soaps and customizing the packaging and they said they could handle it. I told them the date I needed the favors and the order was ready in less than a week and a month before the baby shower. When I was contacted to pick up the order, I had to ask for more soap and they said no problem. Everyone at the shower loved the soap and packaging. read more

The smells alone will do it but the products are AMAZING! Soapy the shop dog was off his duty greetings and on a short snooze but Ken and staff were more than willing to greet and welcome us. We received a tour along with the history of the shop. I will have to say the Jojoba oil has been my favorite moisturizing product but so are the soaps, citronella spray, laundry detergent, and have yet to use the dog soap but have no doubt this too won't disappoint. A must stop in store! read more

What a great St Louis treasure! Stop in for a tour and learn about their soap-making process and the strides they take in producing quality natural soaps. And their products? Excellent. I was gifted a few bars of their soap for Christmas and instantly was impressed by the quality: great scents, moisturizing, etc. Walking into the shop is amazing! It smells so good without the artificial fragrances that cause headaches. read more

I purchased soaps from here for years. And then I stopped. No clue as to why. I have never been in the "brick and mortar". All of my shopping was done online. After realizing that I really missed good soaps, I came looking to see what new scents and options were/are available. I started small. Three "Sampler Stacks". They arrived today. What a FANTASTIC shower I had! The soaps are really special. The smells, the scrubby bits, everything! I started out with "Sea Spice". More of a masculine smell. Lovely! All of the bars are ethically and responsibly made. They all smell heavenly. They suds up like no soap that I have ever used before. I am so glad to be back! read more

This place is amazing! It smells amazing and the storefront looks very quaint and inviting. We have made soap purchases here and ended up ordering more online. Their soaps are great and they have fantastic options. This place does not only sell soaps but other beauty products as well. The best thing is, they are all natural products! I have ordered a gift I put together online along with some lip balm variety. I placed the order on a Saturday evening, they shipped it on a Monday and I got the package on Tuesday. Quick and efficient! They also gave me a free lip balm and a free bar of soap with my order. Since my entire order was over $49, I ended up paying $0 for shipping. I thought about driving over there during one of my days off but with the great deal I got, there was no need to! I will definitely shop here again and again whether it be in person by visiting their store or online. This place truly is fantastic and I am glad it's not too far from home. read more

This place makes all their own soap & deodorants. They are reasonably priced for the quality and peace of mind knowing they are made in the USA. I like the Rose and Bergamot deodorant. It smells great and is very effective. I'm looking forward to trying more scents. I don't live in Missouri, but am starting to order online. I plan to give some of their soap as Christmas gifts too. read more

WE LOVE HERBARIA! We live in Texas, but my wife is from STL. On a visit to the Hill during one of our trips to STL to get some Italian Food (praise God) we stopped by herbaria. It was that day that we smelled all of the incredible smells and heard all of the benefits. It was that day that we threw out the bottled body wash from the grocery store. This was 5 years ago, and since then every time we're in STL we buy a dozen bars and in between trips we order them. In a pickle we have purchased individual bars of soap from other companies in our area to hold us over until our Herbaria order arrived, and they all pale in comparison. Our skin is so soft, we have significantly less blemishes, we aren't covering ourselves in chemicals, and our shower smells SO GOOD. The price is so reasonable too, the bars last forever. They also have a shave bar that's better than any "insert manly grooming company here" shaving soap I've used. This isn't a game people, get you some soap. Also I feel the need to clarify since this is such a diehard review that I am in no way being compensated, I just love their soap that much (But I wouldn't hate to be sponsored by Herbaria, if I could walk around like some sort of human NASCAR with it on me I would). read more

I had the honor of meeting Ken Gilberg and Soapy the Dog and they were the nicest! One of my favorite experiences is to open up my hall closet where I have my bar of Rosemary Mint stored and catch an invigorating whiff when I grab a towel. Herbaria's Ginger Neem soap cured my Psoriasis! Seriously. For about 20 years I've suffered from psoriasis. It's always worse in wintertime and mainly on my lower legs, with small spots popping up here and there. Gross, believe me I know. Late last winter I decided to give ol'Ginger a shot and within 1 month all that yucky, scaliness was gone. Completely. It's nearly been a full year of using it (and it is a cold December day now) and I have no signs that it is coming back. I've tried so many OTC and prescription lotions and potions over the years and I really can't remember any of them doing much of anything. Herbaria has changed everything. Again. Thanks! read more

I spent less than ten minutes in Herbaria yesterday. Herbaria has a look and aroma that stands out on the Hill. As I went in, I got the impression that the place must be an earthy Bath and Body Works. I think that is partially correct. An employee greeted me immediately and offered a tour, but I decided to browse. I think Herbaria would be a good place to take a group of Scouts. Anyway, a little bag of laundry soap intrigued me, and I adore the scent of the peppermint soap, but in the end I selected an essential oil and went to the register to ask about the price, as jars were not marked and there was no signage. The woman running the register irritated me. The man ahead of me was with his daughter, who turned five months old that day. I know this because the employee kept stopping what she was doing (bagging their items, getting the receipt, etc.) in order to ooh and ahh and have a conversation with this baby. She did not acknowledge my presence by even glancing my way, even though I was in her line of vision. When they left and it was my turn, she was quiet, though certainly polite. She did not try to make conversation; perhaps she could tell that I was not (any longer) in a chipper mood. It turns out that the sign with essential oil prices was for some reason at the register rather than over by the oils like it is supposed to be. In conclusion, I would like to state that I hope to come back to Herbaria someday, and when I do, I hope there are no babies around. :) Perhaps I will purchase that laundry soap. read more

There's an amazing variety of handmade soaps here--including chocolate! Other flavors were lavender, oatmeal, peppermint and more. There's detergent, moisturizers, stuff for headaches, and the list goes on. We were given a fantastic tour. A great stop in St. Louis! read more

While on vacation, we figured we'd have to go and check out The Hill since it's been YEARS since we've been over that way. Herbaria was a surprise find. We normally buy their soaps but I think we get them at the Bug Store or maybe at some other local gift shop. I didn't know that this soap oasis was located on The Hill only minutes from my house! We walked in and immediately were hit full on with all sorts of wonderful aromas....all mingled and yet, not overwhelming or too perfumey (is that a word?). Just a good clean smell. We were greeted by Gino and Chris (sorry if I got the names wrong). They were sooo nice and helpful in explaining to us all about their soap and how it's made...they even gave us a mini-tour and Gino told me all about his Great-Great Grandfather Luigi who won something for the best shaves at the World's Fair. Even though they were getting ready for this huge show in St. Charles, they took out the time to show us all around the soap factory. The store is VERY cute and it's very difficult to decide which soaps to get since they all smell fantastic. They have soaps for all sorts of reasons too, like some for sensitive skin, to help repel insects and even soaps for your dog! Gino is also an artist and makes these really cool soap dishes (which I now have in my bathroom....thanks!) Check out the photos that I posted as well....and then get on over there! read more

A local company with a gorgeous store on the Hill that sells handmade soaps and skincare products. Their wares are made with high quality essential oils, are gentle on the skin, and have a soft and luxurious feel. As a person with allergies to many perfumes, I love essential oils because (for the most part) they don't leave me with headaches. They also have a great website for cross-country gift giving. Before you splurge in the beauty section of Whole Foods, give Herbaria a try. They are a wonderful addition to the St. Louis city local businesses. read more

I am this Yelper's wife and am rating the only product I tried: Citrus bar shampoo for fine hair. I got a free trial bar after wandering into the store while in The Hill neighborhood. I'd never heard of Herbaria before. I was very skeptical that a bar of soap would work on my colored, fine, straight hair, but it was free (and unusual), so I gave it a whirl. Normally I spend $$$ on salon-grade liquid shampoos. I'd never considered that liquid shampoos are primarily water, detergent, and other chemicals. I am a convert! Using this bar shampoo was the ONLY change in my hair regime, and I'm so glad I stumbled upon it. My hair now has body and life, and looks smooth and healthy. I've received compliments from family and friends. Thank you Herbaria for making this wonderful bar shampoo product. I will be returning to buy more. read more

Checked in before I walked into their store front. After my experience, I felt returning to my app and leaving a review was mandatory. I'll spare you the details, but offer this... 01. I "wet shave" with the old-school, badger hair brush and safety razor, just like my grandfather used to. Unfortunately, this isn't the norm anymore, so finding (good) shaving pucks to drop in my mug aren't easy to come by. This is one of the few places in the STL that have them and saves you shipping. 02. I have worked with people since my first gig at 16 years old. I am very familiar with customer service and, in my experience, RARELY will you run across someone that is so friendly and enthusiastic, without being awkward, that you can't help but appreciate their product even more. Shop here. read more

I have bought Herbaria products at another Herb shop on Manchester Road, (so I cannot say anything about the location), but I can GUSH about the soaps ALL day! I really like most of this soap. My main problem is the use of palm oil. I asked Herbaria why they used it and the woman I spoke to said they get it from a place where there are no orangutans. And that shows a kind of shocking ignorance about palm oil. I have researched numerous soaps made with oils and not one other I found uses palm oil. It's just bad stuff. I love the way the shampoo makes my hair look and feel but I cannot use it more than once a week because no matter how much I rinse or use vinegar, I get huge flakes in my hair. So that's a bummer. The soaps also leave an awful lot of scum, and that worries me. I have not had a problem with soap scum with other oil based soaps. When I asked Herbaria what ingredients get you clean, they could not answer. I assume it's the small amount of oatmeal. Oils do not clean you. So I'm a bit worried about that also. They could make a really superior product, but they don't seem to be particularly interested in changing things like the palm oil. https://medium.com/asparagus-magazine/sustainable-palm-oil-environment-deforestation-orangutan-climate-change-labor-conditions-2c5699d541b1 read more

I get my deet-free insect repellent, camping soap, and some essential oils from Herbaria. The dog soap is good too. The staff are friendly and helpful. Just walking in the place smells like heaven. This place is amazing! My parents bought me some of the bug spray they make at Shaw's Garden and I used it for a whole summer but didn't think anything of it. Then at a return garden trip, I saw all the soaps, we bought some. It is amazing how long they last! I feel like bars from other local soap shops last a little over a week and disintegrate. These last way longer - and the smells are great! Today was the first time I actually made it into the store. You can smell the soaps from the sidewalk. As soon as we walked inside they offered to do a kid's activity with my son and he made a little soap cut-out in the back of the store where all of their big sheets of soap are located. So awesome that they have something like this for kids! It was so hard to get out of the store without spending tons. I wanted to buy so many soaps, the laundry detergent, etc. They even have a great soap for dogs so everyone in the house can enjoy. read more

Perfect. I stopped in for the first time last week. The woman working was so kind and helpful. She suggested an sampler package to start. The smells are fantastic. They rinse clean without a lingering coating on the skin. I also got sugar scrub for dry spots which is the best sugar scrub I have used. We purchased a facial mask jar as well. I don't use those but my daughter was happy with it. And... there is a store dog! A very adorable store dog. A+ all around. read more

I have stopped using body wash and hand soap. Herbaria soaps smell better than any soaps I have ever used. I am hooked on Avocado Lemon and French Lavender. I plan to try many other of their soaps. Great tour and the people provided great service, and the soap smells excellent I can't wait to go back

While walking through the Hill before dinner, we smelled lavender in the street and had to see where it was coming from. We walked into Herbaria and were greeted by a gentleman who was in the back making soap, and Soapy the dog. He asked us if we had been in before and told us a little about the store. He indicated he would be in back if we had any questions. The lady behind the desk was very helpful. We asked if she knew if any nearby bakeries were open. She checked the internet for Missouri Baking Company and and called them. She let us know when they closed and gave us directions. We purchased some soap and a bath bomb. Haven't even tried the products yet, but this was the best customer service experience I've had in ages. Would have given it 6 stars if I could. So glad we happened upon this shop! read more

I made the trip up to St. Louis to Herbaria for the purpose of getting a local shaving soap puck. The lady told me that it is more of a "slick" shaving soap. I should have seen the writing on the wall because to date, it has been the WORST shaving soap I have ever tried. Not only could I barely generate a lather, but after applying it to my face, within 10 seconds it would dissipate into nothingness. Now, not all was lost in the trip because I did buy some bar soaps as well, and they were great. Herbaria should stick to bar soaps only. Lesson learned with this store. read more
