The first two times I had gone, my experience was strong and well received by a black man who knew his products and had vast knowledge on the smoking tools available. I was informed that this is a black owned store. I was happy to support them.
However. I recently went to a different location and bought glassware that wasn't wrapped, which resulted in a broken item and needing a replacement. The gentleman was kind and knowledgeable but had slipped on securing the purchase.
I have opted to speak with a so-called "manager" who seemed to boast several times on the phone that they are the manager and that they will replace it with ANYTHING we wanted. (As if. Wording was so poor. Come on)
Upon coming in, i was met with a woman who once again boasted about being a manager. So i knew it was her. She proceeded to study the glassware and tell me she knew what we wanted and showed pictures of another item from another store.
When I addressed the interaction with the other man at the other store, she says "yeah that's typical of them." What do you mean by that?? She said "I wouldn't expect anything different" I'm sorry what the fuck? Aren't you a manager? So you speak so candid and bad about your peer stores?
However, her interests weren't there for the customer. She worked over all of the glassware that wasn't one in which used water. Normal glassware, which i specified i wasn't interested in. She boasted that we could use. Dab rig to smoke, which in some cases could work. Rather, it doesn't really function as we need for the same purpose, yet she believed it was a solid solution. After reiterating again that I needed to replace th glassware with a joint function requiring water, she began to narrow her selections down to regular glassware again in which she thought was best and discussed her preferences and her 'friends' who smoked rather than herself.
The whole interaction seemed very unprofessional. For someone who is a manager who knows nothing about her products, it is pretty saddening and pathetic. She can not relate to her customer or provide solutions off their needs, rather, herself with zero understanding of how even Bongs function. And not understanding any pricing without looking it up.
But it doesn't stop. There was bad salesmanship. Upon checking out with an inferior item to stop the conversation longer of "my friend" to relate to smoking, I was met with her using a horrible mocking accent to say my name thinking it should sound ETHNIC than normal based on my appearance. Even after hearing the name, I said NORMAL a dozen times over my phone. Saying my name and attempting this weird 'salsa' head bobbing and another "my friend."
This now pissed me off. You were unprofessional, unknowledgable, unhelpful, disrespectful, and racially insensitive. You as a white person felt your status as a manager was so important that you could look down on everyone, and be someone who doesn't part take in what store sales so you use "my friend" sales tactics to make it work. You are so bad at sales that you could only push what you wanted rather than listen to your customers.
I think it'll be safe not to use Herbal Aspect stores again if people like her are allowed to be managers while being severely underqualified. Terrible service, selection, and zero customer service skill. read more
