Service was awfully slow. As in several servers walking past you and looking at you, but still not taking your order. The menu clearly shows which dishes are gluten free, nut free, vegan, etc. Which is quite helpful. The Baby Aubergine Masala was good, but just too small. This is aubergine pieces, but I think I like it mashed more like bengan bharta. Rice was not included, which I suppose is usually how it is in the UK. The 2GBP portion of rice was quite small.
Interior is nice, with a lot of objects to look at. Think semi-fine dining Indian mainly frequented by non-Indians. The kind of place where Indians would say, I can get you cheaper and better. It has quite a cozy ambiance though. The bar is made to look like a hut. The middle of the restaurant has see through glass cieling. There is one of those old Indian motor cycles placed in the middle. TVs showing Kerala attractions. I was a bit disappointed that my food was not served on a big banana leaf, like they do over there in Kerala. I don't know what's herbal about this restaurant and in what way it is different from the other Kayal location across the street. Don't think I would plan to come back and I say that mainly because of the portion size, not even with the 25% discount I was given for next visit. read more
