Henrys campsite is an unusual and quirky little place. A family run site with the owners living on site and lovingly cared for with all its unique charm. I've never been to a campsite quite like this one.
It's situated in Lizard village - Cornwall. On entering the site you realise your in a different world, feels like a tropical paradise with Tropical trees and foliage and quirky painted artwork every where on site from the toilet block to the walk ways. They've been very clever to utilise any odd pieces of wood and stone to make various areas of the campsite, including the fire pit with its own seating area for gigs, even the floor in a shower area is made from plastic pipes to allow drainage.
The pitches on the campsite are divided and secluded by lush foliage and tropical trees, it's very popular with vw and camper vans which come and go like buses. But also great for tents. It's reasonably priced at £26 pn incl electric hook up with a £30 deposit for the lead.
It's got its own little shop onsite open until 10.30pm, with everything you can think of even old Rosie cider sold by the jug!! and many other alcoholic beverages and sweets for the kids. Nans bargains is a little cupboard full of second hand bric a brac items, if your in need of a bucket and spade.
It also sells fresh eggs from chickens wandering around the site, there is a bunch of ducks also living on site and very sweet to see them fed in the morning with them all waddling in a line. There is also a field next door full of chickens and three Lamas.
If you fancy keeping warm outside at night or toasting marshmallows you can rent a brazier for £3.
It's very convenient with a 2 min walk to Lizard village with several gift shops for souvenirs, two pubs, a cafe open late, a fish and chip shop and a diner for breakfast or lunch.
If your into walking the coastal path starts at the village with a two and half mile walk along the coast to Kinance cove another beautiful beach and a cafe selling pasties the size of a small handbag!
The only downside is its mixed loos and shower blocks, a couple of spiders on the ceiling but didn't find this a problem. If you go at the right time of the morning it's fairly quiet. The toilet blocks are cleaned every day by a bunch of busy staff. They would benefit from having more toilets and showers and can imagine it gets fairly busy in the summer months but no different to other camp sites and waiting in a que.
Also the sound of the fog horn from a local National trust owned lighthouse can be heard in the distance if its foggy.
On a plus the campsite also hosts local musicians on a Saturday night in the fire pit area, a home built theatre on site and twice a year its host to its own music festival The Little Big Gig.
I stayed here in September 2016, had amazing weather and every pitch taken with various age groups. Had a fabulous time and loved the Lizard peninsula for its beaches and coastline.
Enough said about Old Rosie!! read more
