I recently took my dog to Mountain View Animal Hospital and had a mixed experience. The facility is…read moretucked away and it is beautiful, with lush landscaping and a peaceful outdoor setting. The calming environment helps reduce the stress of vet visits, and the breathtaking mountain views add to the serene atmosphere. Parking is easy and convenient. The first-time appointment costs $160 total, which felt a bit steep for the Reno area. It requires a $50 deposit to book the appointment, with the remaining $110 due on the day of the visit. New clients should also expect to wait a couple of months for a first-time appointment, depending on the veterinarian. The staff and nurses are incredibly sweet, welcoming, and professional. I enjoyed meeting Dr. Brown she seemed knowledgeable and caring, and she took plenty of time to address my concerns and answer my questions. During our first appointment, I was hoping for a more holistic approach to my dog's care, similar to the philosophy of Dr. Karen Becker (author of The Forever Dog). I was looking for guidance based on peer-reviewed studies around raw diets, nutrition, natural lifestyle choices, and all-natural prevention for longevity. Instead, after some initial discussion, the conversation quickly shifted to the standard recommendations for vaccines and flea/tick medications. I was a bit disappointed by that. After the appointment, I was referred to a local nutritionist and recommended for a dental cleaning. However, the estimate for dental cleaning, bloodwork, titer tests, and vaccines came to nearly $4,093.85, which shocked me. Because of the high cost, I decided to seek more budget-friendly and pragmatic options at another local veterinarian for vaccines and dental work, and I'll likely continue there to keep expenses manageable. The communication process also felt confusing and unnecessarily complicated at first. Everything is handled through text messages that link to the patient portal on their website. While the team usually responds the same day or within 24 hours for non-urgent messages, the back-and-forth and need to navigate the portal made simple tasks like scheduling the dental cleaning and receiving the diet recommendation -- feel frustrating. As someone who prefers more traditional, direct communication (such as a quick phone call), this system was challenging for me. Overall, it's a solid practice with great people and a lovely facility. It's luxury with a premium price for pet care. I especially appreciated the thoughtful welcome card they mailed to me with everyone's signature -- that was a nice personal touch. They could improve by streamlining their communication, offering more competitive pricing, and reducing wait times for new patients. I'd consider returning in the future with some hesitation, particularly if they can provide more reasonable rates and a stronger focus on holistic care in line with Dr. Karen Becker's philosophy in The Forever Dog. With an unlimited budget, I would happily go back.

I can't say (because I'm no expert) if they live longer or not but I can say it makes their latter years more comfortable. Also bloodwork is much improved. Cons: 1. It's expensive. $100 a month ish. My dogs give our family so much joy and are top priority in my house. Their quality of life means a lot to me so I justify it.

I explained to them that I already had and that I wanted to meet the doctor who would perform this therapy. Long story short I left w out meet any vet and almost in tears. In an around about way I got my questions answered. I will not be taking my animals here. UPDATE: I sent Dr. Lowell (the holistic vet) an email about my experience in his office. The following day I received an email back from his office personnel. My email never reached. And they proceeded to tell me I can call him for an additional charge of $45. This place is a F***ing joke!

We took our fur babies in this morning for their annual vaccinations and wellness checkups…read more Everything went well initially. Upon arriving at home our female cat puked up her breakfast, we initially thought it was a reaction to the vaccines. She was acting normal being playful and loving. A few hours later my wife noticed her face swelling up and her being lethargic. We contacted the vet and they directed us to bring her back immediately. Upon arrival a tech was waiting at the door and took the cat from my wife and rushed her to the back. After a short time Dr. Heinsch came in and explained to us that the cat was experiencing anaphylactic shock which they deemed an emergency and administered treatment. Thanks to the vet's quick response and treatment or this could've been fatal. Dr. Heinsch and her staff were amazing and took great care of our fur baby with the utmost compassion and sympathy. Thank you so much!

I took my cat to VCAA Animal Hospital for what was supposed to be a routine checkup and microchip…read moreappointment. During the exam, the veterinarian told me they felt a concerning mass in his abdomen and immediately started talking about expensive testing that would cost thousands of dollars. I told them I needed to talk it over with my wife first and asked about financing options. That's when the conversation went completely off the rails. Before a single X-ray, ultrasound, CT scan, or any other diagnostic test had been done, they started talking about euthanasia. Not as a worst-case scenario after testing. Not if a diagnosis came back confirming something terminal. Right then and there. I was told my cat was likely in significant pain because of this suspected mass and that if we couldn't afford the testing and treatment, putting him down was something we should seriously consider. I was honestly stunned. How do you go from "I think I feel something" during a physical exam to talking about euthanizing someone's pet when you haven't even confirmed that there's actually a problem? I left that appointment upset and decided to get a second opinion. The second veterinarian was shocked when I told them what had happened. They did bloodwork, X-rays, and an ultrasound and found no abdominal mass whatsoever. None. In fact, they even joked that whatever was felt during the first exam may have simply been a buildup of feces or something similar. Other than the hyperthyroidism my cat was already being treated for, they found absolutely nothing that suggested he was suffering from a serious condition or living in severe pain. That's the part that still makes me angry. I understand that vets aren't perfect and mistakes happen. What I don't understand is why euthanasia was even part of the conversation before any testing had been done. That's not a small thing to bring up. You're talking about somebody's family member. You don't start talking about putting an animal down based on a guess. To me, it felt like fear was being used to push us toward thousands of dollars of testing. Maybe that's not what they intended, but that's exactly how it came across. When you're telling someone their pet may be suffering, may have a serious mass, and may need to be euthanized, people panic. That's exactly what happened to us. My wife and I spent days worried sick over something that turned out not to exist. What makes this even more disappointing is that we were already clients and had been bringing our two dogs there as well. After this experience, we'll never bring any of our animals back. If your pet receives a serious diagnosis here, get a second opinion before making any major decisions. In our case, that second opinion completely changed the story and probably saved us from spending thousands of dollars chasing a problem that wasn't even there.

Physical issues always show up with stress. As someone with Lyme disease, I was already familiar with the healing power of accupuncture and thought it would help with my back and glute. Lila blew my previous accupuncture experiences out of the water. She helped heal my body and along the way, she was an incredible guide to navigating the emotional side of loss, grief, and uncertainty. I came to Lila pretty broken in all aspects of life and I now feel amazing in body, mind, and soul. More recently, I tore my meniscus and couldn't weight bear when I saw Lila. The next day, I was walking with a limp but it is progress! She was working with the inflammation but also the muscle memory and fear of a fall that hurt so badly, I was scared to use my knee. I am so thankful she came into my life at such a critical time. I can't recommend her highly enough.
