After a short wait (there was only a couple people there when I arrived) I met with the Vet. She explained what was going on and the plan to move forward. She told me about an hour. Shortly have meeting with the vet, the place was packed, with multiple emergencies coming in. Soon after the hour passed, the lady at the county called me up apologized for the wait, and explained what was going on that was causing the delay. About an hour or so later, I met with the vet again. She was able to determine the issue and presented me with a couple of options. I was told that one of the options would be done that day if we went that route, but she couldn't give a time due to the number of other higher priority issues. A couple hours after I arrived back home, I received a call that our pet was ready for pick up. When I arrived, the place was virtually empty, and I was greeted when I walked in. The gentleman at the desk explained what was going on, treatment, asked if I had any concerns, explained the cost, took my payment and returned with our pet. Everyone was very professional, and very kind. Everyone I met had a genuine empathy for all of the animals that came in. I hope that I never have to step foot in here again, but if I do, I know that our pets are in good hands!

On Saturday, my Yorkie was seen for right eye discomfort, including squinting and tearing, and was…read morediagnosed with a corneal ulcer. We were given medication and an Elizabethan collar and discharged. At a follow-up appointment with our primary veterinarian on Wednesday, it was discovered that a sizeable piece of debris had been left in her eye. The cornea had actually begun healing over the foreign body because it was not removed during the initial visit. As a result, our veterinarian had to re-open the wound in order to remove the debris, essentially restarting the healing process. This oversight is extremely concerning, as it delayed proper healing and could have led to much more serious complications, including potential vision loss. When we called to address the situation, the receptionist was very apologetic and assured us a message would be passed along for the veterinarian to return our call. Unfortunately, we never received a follow-up. While we understand and expect higher fees for emergency care, we do not expect critical aspects of treatment to be missed. We are grateful our primary veterinarian caught and corrected the issue, but we are very disappointed in the level of care provided during the initial visit.

My dog was experiencing progressing seizures this week. I called my regular vet on Tuesday, and…read morewas told since the seizures were initially not frequent, I had to wait a week for an appointment. They also said to bring Curly to Peak if they the seizures got worse. On Friday, Curly started having frequent seizures. I called my vet to see if they had an opening - no. I called Peak and was told to bring him right in. Curly was taken back immediately, as he was having a seizure as I brought him in. Dr. Pruyn explained all the possible causes of his seizures in ways I could understand. After several tests, Dr. Pruyn and I decided the most humane course was to put Curly to sleep. Dr. Pruyn, Montana, and all of the staff were all incredibly compassionate, giving hugs, and totally understanding of my tears and sobs. They asked about cremation, and didn't press me when I said I wanted to arrange it myself. I got to take Curly home and say some private goodbyes. Between the sense of urgency they showed in prioritizing Curly's emergency ( despite other patients waiting), their compassion, and their gentle guidance in making my decision, I can say Peak is the best veterinary experience I've ever had, in Reno or elsewhere.

I recently took my dog to Mountain View Animal Hospital and had a mixed experience. The facility is…read moretucked away and it is beautiful, with lush landscaping and a peaceful outdoor setting. The calming environment helps reduce the stress of vet visits, and the breathtaking mountain views add to the serene atmosphere. Parking is easy and convenient. The first-time appointment costs $160 total, which felt a bit steep for the Reno area. It requires a $50 deposit to book the appointment, with the remaining $110 due on the day of the visit. New clients should also expect to wait a couple of months for a first-time appointment, depending on the veterinarian. The staff and nurses are incredibly sweet, welcoming, and professional. I enjoyed meeting Dr. Brown she seemed knowledgeable and caring, and she took plenty of time to address my concerns and answer my questions. During our first appointment, I was hoping for a more holistic approach to my dog's care, similar to the philosophy of Dr. Karen Becker (author of The Forever Dog). I was looking for guidance based on peer-reviewed studies around raw diets, nutrition, natural lifestyle choices, and all-natural prevention for longevity. Instead, after some initial discussion, the conversation quickly shifted to the standard recommendations for vaccines and flea/tick medications. I was a bit disappointed by that. After the appointment, I was referred to a local nutritionist and recommended for a dental cleaning. However, the estimate for dental cleaning, bloodwork, titer tests, and vaccines came to nearly $4,093.85, which shocked me. Because of the high cost, I decided to seek more budget-friendly and pragmatic options at another local veterinarian for vaccines and dental work, and I'll likely continue there to keep expenses manageable. The communication process also felt confusing and unnecessarily complicated at first. Everything is handled through text messages that link to the patient portal on their website. While the team usually responds the same day or within 24 hours for non-urgent messages, the back-and-forth and need to navigate the portal made simple tasks like scheduling the dental cleaning and receiving the diet recommendation -- feel frustrating. As someone who prefers more traditional, direct communication (such as a quick phone call), this system was challenging for me. Overall, it's a solid practice with great people and a lovely facility. It's luxury with a premium price for pet care. I especially appreciated the thoughtful welcome card they mailed to me with everyone's signature -- that was a nice personal touch. They could improve by streamlining their communication, offering more competitive pricing, and reducing wait times for new patients. I'd consider returning in the future with some hesitation, particularly if they can provide more reasonable rates and a stronger focus on holistic care in line with Dr. Karen Becker's philosophy in The Forever Dog. With an unlimited budget, I would happily go back.
