Choose one star only because there was no option for FAIL. I have been trying to contact the CEO and President of this medical center for almost a year regarding my urgent visit to this facility, with no return or acknowledgement. I should not have received a $248.00 bill for non-service! While visiting Michigan from out of state, the first night into my trip, I came down with a severe case of uncontrollable shivers. My parents and husband tried everything they could to try to help me, but nothing worked. After about an hour of teeth chattering shivers, my husband called St. John Medical Center to see if they were or had an Urgent Care and they said yes, so he drove me there. Upon arrival we noticed that there was only a handful of vehicles in the parking lot and the lights appeared to be on, so we thought it was great because we figured I could be seen right away. We walked in and there was no one waiting in the lobby and the receptionist asked what we were there for. My husband asked her if they were an Urgent Care and if he had just spoken to her on the phone and she answered, "Yes" so we proceeded to fill out the paperwork and I was called straight to the back by the nurse (will not post his name). In the back the lights were off at the desk and counter sections, which made me a bit uneasy. The nurse never asked me why I was visiting, which was strange. He took my temperature and told me I had a fever of 106°, then he asked me to urinate in a cup. After filling the cup, I joined my husband in one of their patient rooms. We waited there for an extremely long time, almost 30 minutes. The nurse never returned to check my urine.
When the doctor (I won't mention by name here) came in he was wearing a blue winter coat with a hood. He had no stethoscope and he never even looked up at me or my husband. He said, "You have a virus of some sort, I'm going to write you a script for an antibiotic." I said, "Excuse me Sir, but aren't you even going to check me out...you haven't even listened to my heart or even brought in your stethoscope to do so?" He told me he didn't need to because I had a virus. I asked him if he was serious?! Meanwhile, my husband was sitting there with his mouth open - dumbfounded and I knew he was getting irritated too. I pleaded with him, "By all means Sir, I came here because something is severely wrong with me and I have never experienced anything like this before, you all haven't checked my urine or given me at least a physical...can I please have some sort of attention, an x-ray, or some sort of EKG to be sure that I am not about to die...I have a 10 year old son who needs me, please help me." At that point the doctor said he didn't have that kind of equipment and walked out. I was startled, and my husband was so upset that he told me to grab my urine sample and we got up to leave. We walked out of the room and I began talking with the doctor while he was sitting down at the counter, but he never even turned around to face us. I told him I was leaving to seek treatment at a facility that can help me before something bad happens to me and that I would like my paperwork back. He then turned and told me that the only way I could get my paperwork back was after they discharged me! I said, "Discharge from what, you haven't touched me for a physical or even looked at me. You haven't examined me at all!" He again turned his back to us, so we walked out to the lobby and asked the receptionist for my paperwork back and she went into the back. She came back and said, "Sorry, I can't give it to you until you're discharged by the nurse." I explained to her that I did not receive an exam, but she refused to give us the paperwork, but she did however write down the names of the doctor and nurse as I requested before we left. My husband then drove me straight to Henry Ford Hospital's Emergency Room. While there I was given a full work up, exam, and tests and then treated after being diagnosed with the Flu and dehydration from the antibiotic that I was given back home two weeks prior for a sinus infection. I explained to them everything that we had been through prior to coming to the ER and they were shocked and said we made the right decision by leaving and seeking immediate help.
I felt extremely mistreated and shunned by Dr. (I won't mention by name here) at St. John Providence Medical Center. Not sure if he was tired or just incompetent; but he did not want to treat me, and he didn't care what happened to me that night. Shame on him! read more
