I tried their Screw City Lager which was very good. My wife had their homemade Root Beer. We decided to split a few food items..Taquitos and Tacos. Both were outstanding. The Taquitos were made with a locally sourced pork barbacoa . The Shrimp Tacos were some of the best I ever had. Chili Garlic Tiger Shrimp with a sweet corn elote made the flavor pop. There was more than enough for us to share. Service was very good and there is plenty of parking available. I will definitely go back on a day when I can enjoy their outdoor dining area.

They also have a huge selection to host events. To top it off our server Efstathia was friendly and helpful. I recommend this stop in Rockford.

My in laws said Shopiere is their favorite place so we planned to arrive there by 5p to avoid the crowds. I found it hard to believe there'd be crowds that early, but they were right. The place was already filling up at 5p. We were able to get a table for our group of eight quickly. We all ordered various version of the fish fry. A few got the fried Walleye and loved it. Many got a mix of grilled and fried cod. All the food was delicious and we an order of their yummy fried cheese curds as an appetizer. Shopiere has a fun small town, local feel to it. There are plenty of tables outside and my kids enjoyed playing the the creek behind the restaurant.

It was a lot of fun, not very challenging but of course, our group made it competitive. After putting, we did the go-karts, which was also a lot of fun! Some of the guys' karts were slow, which was probably a good thing. They also have an arcade area, which was nice and cool since it was quite warm and muggy outside during the time we were there. The bathrooms were clean. We didn't try any of their food while there, but they had ice cream! Overall a good place to hang with a large group, good for families with kids, or adults that want to have fun like kids :D

But the baked potato came out only warm and undercooked, and the French onion soup needs some attention: the onions weren't caramelized, so it lacked the rich depth that dish should have. None of this is a dealbreaker, and I'll be back. I'd just love to see them sweat the small stuff again rather than lean on nostalgia and their loyal regulars. Get those details right and this is easily a five-star spot.

The bar service was great! It was all downhill from there…read more My wife and I ordered seafood. I got the orange roughy. It was okay. The side of au gratin potatoes was at room temperature. My wife ordered cod with french fries. The cod was less than room temperature and the so were the fries. Our server came by to ask us how was the food, but didn't wait for an answer. When she did come by later we told her that the food was cold. She asked if we would like to have my wife's seafood dinner boxed up and we said no. The problem was with the attitude of the server. She didn't care. We didn't get a coupon for a different meal. Nothing. They took her meal off of our bill. All we got were the smug looks from the server we complained to management and the manager did nothing but tell us that we should have told her earlier. I have been told for decades that this was a great place to eat. I've been there four times now and twice the food was unacceptable. We will never go there again.

During the day from 11: 00 A.M. to 3: 00 P.M. this is the place to go and have lunch. A first class menu, great prices, great food and they are not stingy with the portions. On Friday they have the best Fish Fry and Fried Shrimp dinner that any of the social clubs in town can't even come close to as far as price, quality and size of the portions. Come on in and have Erica show you what a first class act she is and all of the rest of the beautiful bartenders that wait on folks at CJ's. Don't mind the skinny Old Troll that runs the place. He is the only detriment about CJ'S. Otherwise, I highly recommend a visit to CJ's Public House. Very friendly, inclusive and low key.

This translates to the towns most popular watering hole as well. Their food is pretty standard bar food, but it's always cooked well and tastes great. The prices for their food is also well below most of the places We've been to that are similar on the IL side. Their drinks are also priced well and they have a decent selection but don't expect to have mixologist level drinks. Fridays they offer something called double bubble which is essentially a BOGO when ordering drinks and they offer raffle tickets when ordering drinks for their Friday Meat Raffles which is always such a fun experience. They offer live music and have open mic comedians at times too. I absolutely recommend giving Boxcar a try.
