I'm in my early 50's and have been researching plastic surgeons for about 15 years. Three years ago I was in an automobile accident. A huge piece of asphalt flew through the window & smashed my face. I had a broken nose, broken teeth, & my jaw was dislocated. The accident happened on our way to Dallas. I was in the passenger seat and the ambulance took me to the closest emergency room. My 4 year old daughter was in the back seat & is still dealing with the trauma of the experience. Thankfully I'm the only one who was physically hurt. The Doctors at the ER were pulling pieces of road off of my face and trying to stitch small cuts on my face. The whole experience happened very fast. I remember stopping them and saying I didn't want anyone touching my face except Dr. Mentz. I chose him several years prior & knew if I ever had any work done I only trusted Dr. Mentz. We called Dr. Mentz when we got home and his waitlist to see new patients was over 3 months. I was able to speak to his nurse and explained the urgency of my situation. Thankfully the nurse cleared a spot for me. Dr. Mentz was kind, caring, & exuded confidence & I immediately felt a calmness come over me. The damage to my face was so severe he asked for pictures of what I looked like prior to the accident. I was able to pull up some Facebook pictures that he studied for a long time. He then called in his nurse, started rambling off medical terms & instructions. He called an amazing cosmetic Dentist named Stryker Davis. Dr. Mentz explained my situation to Dr. Davis. He then immediately sent me to the cosmetic surgeon & dentist. Dr. Mentz explained it was necessary for me to see the Dentist first because of the trauma my face & mouth endured. And if the dental work was extensive it could affect what he needed to do to my face. I went to the Dentist & was treated like a rockstar. They saw me immediately, he did an examination then called Dr. Mentz & the two came up with a care plan for me. I was scheduled for plastic surgery on my face 2 days later. During my 2nd consultation with Dr Mentz he suggested we do some minor shaping on my nose. Honestly all I wanted was to be able to breathe again & feel normal. It took about 3 months for all of my swelling & pain to settle down. To this day I am so thankful I had it mentally together enough to stop the ER Doctors from working on my face. And of course I also wish I had taken Mentz's suggestion to sculpt my nose. It's on my list now & I plan on making a beeline to his office the moment I have everything in order (financially & time off work). Dr. Mentz is the best plastic surgeon in America! Do your research & you will see all of his before & after pictures. They're real people and his education is top notch! I highly recommend Dr. Mentz & have sent several friends to him. They were all very pleased with his work. I could argue that he probably saved my life! The procedure he did on my nose was one that he created. Weeks later friends & family could not believe the improvement of my face. Every day it got better. My whole family & I always pray for Dr. Mentz & his family and will continue to do so. This surgeon botched my upper blepharoplasty and denied any issues. I was left w ptosis on the botched eye. I also have dry eye so it tears on and off weekly. My eyelashes are sparse and don't grow on that eye like normal and stick out straight. I've now have strabismus on this eye. Do not go to this surgeon for anything. How does someone w so much experience botch an eye job. I now wear tinted glasses in public. Disgraceful. And he wasn't cheap. read more

The office is nice, the staff is nice. My initial interview was nice. But, my surgery destroyed My face. I've had 3 more corrective surgeries and still need more. My eyes were damaged. Dr.Mentz destroyed my face by doing liposuction. I have deep indentations and he did a fat transfer to cover it up. The fat died and fell down to my lip area. I have areas that are hollow. Visually it looks like dark holes. This has been a nightmare. His aggressive and abusive nature should scare anyone. I had to stay overnight and my face had a thick mask so I couldn't see. When I got home and went to the mirror I was stunned. I looked like I had been in a car wreck and went through the windsheild. My work as a makeup artist for a very exclusive cosmetic company has been put on hold. People see me and they are stunned. I hear this a lot 'What happened to your face?' BEWARE OF UNPROFESSIONAL CLERICAL STAFF. Since my first appointment with Dr. Mentz, I receive a yearly email for my birthday. Last year, I decided to googled Dr. Mentz because I was interested in having Juvederm facial fillers. His prices were listed on his webpage and took a picture on my phone for Juvederm: 1syringe price was $700, 2 syringes were $1250 and a great value of 3 Juvederm syringes for $1825. I made an appointment for 5/5/22. I was transferred to the filler department and I was requested to provided credit card information prior to making the appointment. I politely obliged the lady, however, this request diminished my esteem for Dr. Mentz' office Protocols. On May 5 2022, I went to the Galleria River Oaks location at 4400 Post Oak Parkway. I arrived by Uber. Dr. Mentz office was now divided into two sections. Dr. Mentz office was on left and his ACPS Aesthetic Center for Plastic Surgery on the right side of the floor. I was directed to the ACPS for an appointment for Juvederm syringes. I was introduced to a Nurse Practitioner (she was not involved in this unprofessional behavior). I was very pleased with the results of my injections. When I went to pay I was being charged $2,200 on my Amex for three (3) syringes. I only had two (2) syringes not three (3). The clerical staff stated that I had three syringes. My nurse practitioner looked puzzle. I mention that the $2,200 price did not conform with the price on Dr. Mentz webpage. I was being charged double for my two syringes. A lady manager approached me and informed me that my statement regarding the conflict of prices had no merit as she informed me that she knew for a fact that their webpage had not been changed in years. I remained composed, however, I certainly did not appreciate her maligning my integrity. I showed her a picture from my phone of Dr. Mentz' web page documenting the price differential. She made an exclamation that it was not the ACPS webpage. Evidently, she believed I was incorrect because it was on Dr. Mentz webpage and not on Dr. Mentz ACPS' webpage. At that point several other clerical personnel gathered in a private room. Finally the ladies exited the room and informed me that the next time I wish to return for Juvederm injections I will receive some complimentary injections. I accepted reluctantly, although I did not wish to return to an unprofessional office. One of the more intelligent clerical ladies insisted that this arrangement should be in writing because no one will remember this arrangement/resolution. I kindly thanked the concerned lady and requested that I would appreciate if she could document the agreement in the computer under my account. She agreed. I was confident that Dr. Mentz was not aware of such inappropriate behavior. In January of 2023, I called to make subsequent visit. The lady that answered the telephone again requested my credit card information. I informed her that I had a credit pending. She happily agreed after checking my profile that I had a credit for three syringes. I was delighted that the young lady documented my file from my original unpleasant visit to ACPS. I arrive on January 27, 2023, and requested the same nurse practitioner. She injected three Juvederm syringes. I was delighted with the results. I was under the impression that my previous credit from my last visit covered today's syringes I started to leave. A cashier lady asked me to take care of my account. I informed her to check the computer that I have a credit for three syringes and left for my Uber. Again I was treated with indignation. Ms. Lopez called me to inform me that I had not paid for the service provided. I asked her to check my profile in the computer. She stated that the lady who made the apt. was incorrect. Ms. Lopez stated that TODAY , ASCP was offering a Special for "three syringes for the price of two". There was no documentation regarding the resolution from my previous visit in my profile. I contacted the nurse practitioner via text. She replied "I just tried to call you. The girls told me there was an issue at check out. Please call me as I have 1 syringe that I can comp you from your previous visit in May of 2022." In addition, the nurse wrote "Today, I used three syringes as discussed at end of your appt today thus the girls need to collect for two of the syringes." The nurse asked me to call ms. Lopez. I finally had enough!! I asked her how much do I owe. She gave me three different prices for each Juvederm filler. Only then I discovered that they were not the same price as my previous syringes. Ms. Lopez never disclose the price differences. Just not worth the aggravation to deal with such a hostile person. The behavior of the clerical personnel appeared to me that they receive "commissions"for their sales. I was charged an additional $1700.00 feeling totally exploited. Well, sadly several years later, I got abdominal lipo. It's uneven, bumpy and can see where he rammed the cannula under my skin. Maybe he was great at one point in his career- but clearly those days are long gone. I honestly look worse than before procedure. And now have to have another surgery to revise the careless work he did. He's a nice guy. That's about the only positive I can say. read more

Dr. Mentz has a beautiful new office but there are several issues that could be improved... First of all there is no discretion with regards to the location of the office. You have to park in a garage and walk through a bridge and there are many financial offices with 9-5 employees and a lot of traffic! So if you've had a facelift and/other obvious procedures be aware of this as it can be very uncomfortable and not good for high profile clients. They also do not comp parking so you will have to pay every time! 2. Ana Lisa (dr. Mentz coordinator) is not pleasant! I could go on about her but once you meet her you will see for yourself. She's very rude and snooty. The previous coordinator was so much better and it's unfortunate that she's no longer there. The office is very busy and most technicians are not as thorough with information as we hoped. On a positive note Dr. Mentz is very confident and a good surgeon. Just wish he had a more quality team and more private office location. 3. Be prepared to spend over two hours for a consult. And he's expensive! 4. Not sure what all the hype is, I had an upper eyelid lift one year ago and today, a year later, my eyelids are drooping again. My left eye more than the right which is how it was originally. I have scar tissue at the outer corner of the left eye which frankly interferes with eyeliner. So basically I spent $4k to have my eyes look exactly the same plus the scar tissue. The doctor appear nice superficially but is rather dismissive and rushed during consultation. I can't get through the office to change my follow up appointments. Very disappointed w my end results and I phrase it this way bc I was told at many of my post op appts to wait until the swelling goes down. One of my eyes was cut above crease, so scar shows and also has a purple streak(no idea why)and when I asked why he cut my eye above the eyelid crease, Dr. Mentz reply was "I don't know." So now the eye that was cut in wrong area doesn't open fully. I went to an eye doctor and he confirmed I now have Ptosis and said either a nerve or muscle was cut. My eye tears daily. Dr. Mentz denies anything is wrong w my eye that now, after his upper blepharoplasty surgery, has Ptosis and apparently he can't fix it(although I would not let this man operate on me ever again)nor can the oculoplastic surgeon he referred me to, to fix it. Mentz says my eyes weren't symmetrical to begin with, which is somewhat true(most peoples aren't)but it opened fully. So now I'm left w one eye smaller than the other. I also have a cyst under my chin that appeared after my lower face/neck lift that won't go away and ofc, Dr. Mentz has no idea how it got there, but blames it on an ingrown hair! I had never had a cyst before. I also paid almost $5k for a laser and he skipped some areas that should have been treated and I paid for. My advice is to stay away from this surgeon. Don't believe the hype! PS- after my surgery I learned of 3 other women that went to him and had similar issues to mine. read more

I had no issues securing a surgery date that worked for me and, the day of surgery, I was a little nervous -- mostly just contemplating the fear of the unknown (i.e. pain, recovery, results). I had to chuckle to myself when they rolled me into the operating room because, unlike other doctors who draw an extensive diagram on your face prior to surgery, Dr. Mentz merely needed to place a dot here and a dash there. Honestly, this is so easy for him he doesn't need to draw a diagram; he could probably do the surgery with one eye closed and one hand tied behind his back. Recovery consisted of a night at the surgery center in a nice, private room; staff was attentive and kind. The next few days at home were better than expected -- not a whole lot of pain, just felt very tired and slept most of the first few days. Dr. Mentz will send a nurse to your home the week following surgery to check on your progress and ensure your wellbeing. The nurse will also remove drains and initiate medication refills. Swelling and bruising were definitely present, but not as extensive as I had imagined. And, as others have mentioned, the cooling machine you wear on your face the first week seemed to be quite helpful in reducing inflammation. After two weeks, I was able to go out of the house briefly, but felt much more comfortable at 3 weeks. Currently, I am 10 months post-op and delighted with the results. I honestly didn't realize how bad I looked until Dr. Mentz worked his magic. His work is precise and well planned -- just the right amount of rejuvenation and lift, yet always natural. And, in case you are wondering, he is masterful at creating nearly undetectable scars. DrMentz is a nice guy but I should of not had the surgery when he could not remember what we were doing . I was to of been the first patient into the surgery room and ended up being close to the last. I had a lower face lift. The right side of my face was lower than the left side - I have no side burns on the left side - I pointed this out to Dr Mentz - and they did another lower face lift to correct and still not corrected . The recovery from the first surgery was standard but the recovery from the second surgery was a mental struggle. I trusted Dr Mentz to make things right the second round - In addition to the lift he was to of put some fat under my eyes and this left an indentation just above both my cheek bones.( over the years I have been asked "what happened " or " who hit me" So today after visiting a different Dr about a different issue - he too noted that the right side of my face was lower - and I thought I should post something. read more

When I called to schedule a consultation, it was a struggle from the start. The woman on the phone kept hassling and reminding me about a missed appointment from over 15 years ago, with a different doctor but somehow it got into their appointment system. I was put in a position to explain myself and told her at the time, I didn't need a plastic surgeon but turned out a dermatologist instead. She then reminded me again that it was a missed appointment (from 2003), among the many times she had to circle around it. She was so rude and nasty overall, making snarky remarks like 'well I'll try to schedule u with your new name name since it doesn't have a missed appointment" (ie my married name). I got a septo rhinoplasty and liposuction of the abdomen. All I can say is that the results of the liposuction are beautiful. However my nose job has exceeded my expectations It even looks similar to a photo that I sent him of Angelina Jolie yet slimmer. Wow its gorgeous. I believe that I underpaid for this nose job and that this doctor worked a miracle on my very difficult nose. Dr. Mentz did a disaster rhinoplasty on me in 2004 about 6 months before my wedding. What was I thinking?? I had heard he was a great surgeon, and being the trusting person that I am, that was enough for me. Wrong. The day of the initial consult we sat in the waiting room for almost two hours to be seen and looking back now we should have left then. After the surgery was a complete nightmare and I have hated the results ever since. The day they took the bandages off, my nose looked similar to Michael Jackson's caved in nose. My mom almost fainted. I had an in office "revision" several months later (so fun) and spent many spent months going back (3 hours away) for steroid injections, in hopes it would change. It was never right and still isn't. I was not asking for perfection but it is no where near the result I expected for of what I paid. Its very asymmetrical and he left me with a ball on the end of my nose I didn't have before. People are always surprised when I say I've had a rhinoplasty. It has taken me 15 years to find the courage to get a revision. This time I am doing my homework and when I ran across his name on YELP, I was compelled to share my story. This may not be everyone's result and he's a nice enough guy with a super fancy office but at the end of the day, just didn't seem to care enough about my result. Dr Mentz is an incredibly talented and gracious doctor! With Wonderful bedside manner! He was able to work magic with a rhinoplasty revision from the previous botched nose job I had received from a doctor before him. My nose looks better than it ever has!! He also did a breast augmentation. Upsizing my 10 yr old implants from saline to silicone and a larger implant. And I finally have the breasts I always wanted!! And a testament to his generosity and commitment to perfection, originally I had a smaller implant chosen and after the original surgery was not happy with the size after all. Dr Mentz was kind enough to allow me to go back under the knife only a couple of days after the initial surgery and obtain the larger implants I desired...FREE OF CHARGE!! So the disaster experience start with contacting Ana for quote for (rhinoplasty, lip filler, belly & thigh liposuction, buccal fact and neck lift) total was 18,535$ without the neck rhinoplasty....................................................... 7000$ buccal fact removal........................................... 1500$ one Juvederm filler........................................... 1750$ !! liposuction....................................................... 5100$ presurgucal vitamins (which I did not get).............. 85$ garmet for liposuction........................................ 150$ anesthesia........................................................ 850$ facility (honestly, they have to call it difficulty!!)....... 2100$ Coordinator asked for full price to schedule consultant appointment !! did accept to give any discount and did not give me options for available dates to choose !!!! After surgeries: NOSE: right side of the tip doest not look like left one. I had like 2 corners on my tip, he removed one and left one! I understand the final shape needs 6 months cuz of the swelling, but there is a big difference between swelling and having uneven shape. when I asked for solution he suggest steroid,, sorry Dr. Mentz this is for inflammation not to correct mistakes!! BUCCAL FAT REMOVAL: I don't see result, they said its due to sweeping you need 10 days. after 10 days they said you need another week, then a month. After a month and one more week of not seeing a result, he said the buccal fat as big as olive oil, result won't be that obvious..! Sorry again Dr. Mentz but the swelling reason was much better! LIP FILLER: I had it during the surgery, days after & I don't see the shape I asked for. Since I got only one filler so I contacted them asking for one more. The doctor said its 750 but will give it to you for 650.. I found out later that other clinic give Juvederum for 400$ while I paid 1750$ at first for one and now they want to charge 650 more.. and please notice, they give me good price ha ha.. when I told the doctor I paid 1750$ for the first one he said this is over price there must be something wrong. when they asked Ana she said because she had it under anesthesia...?! I was like sorry but I am having the anesthesia anyway as I did other surgeries so its not a reason. then they said so you asked for another one and we did not take the money of it for you.... ((admitting is better that just arguing smart Ana!)) Liposuction: belly is fine. Thigh has one flat side while the other is more round. After more than a month I still cannot walk properly but they said it needs time & I hope to get better by the time. Report after surgery: I asked for the report 2 weeks after the surgery and they said its not ready & they will prepare it by my next visit. after a month still not ready and when I asked when I am gonna get it they said they don't know!!!.. until the doctor comes and I told him that he promised to have it ready and now its not there plus they said they cannot give me a time.... ?! so he went and prepare it ..!! All in all, the experience was very annoying & disappointing from the starting to the end. if I just get good result I won't mind the rest... I tried my very best to handle the unacceptable coordinator behaviour until the end, I did not mind to pay more for same operations that I can get for less with other doctors, but when I accept to pay more I expect perfection. Don't tell me ya not the same shape from both sides of the tip but its not very bad so its fine. Don't charge me 1750 for filler while you cannot give me the shape I asked for. I chose this doctor and accept his price & rules to get great final look, not to have another so so look that need other surgeries to be good!! Yes doctors, its your business to make money from patients but remember, your are dealing with live body and person's life. You can make it or break it.. be honest, give each patient the care you would like to have for yourself if you were the one having this surgery. Focus during operations and go extra mile if needed. This is people life!!! one last thing I have to say as well, Dr. Mentz is nice as a person but work wise........ I am sorry!! his coordinator needs lessons of how to be good as much as she can be ******!! nurses were nice. read more

I am still disappointed with my surgery with Dr. Mentz. After almost 4 years, the same issue with the lipo I received and paid $9000 for, is still a problem today. I reported it in my follow up appointments back then and was told that it was swelling and it would go away. At my 3 month follow up it was still there and was told that it wasn't their fault and that if I wanted, they could go back in at my expense and touch it up. WHAT?? If it isn't right, they should make it right. It didn't look even on both sides it should be made right. PERIOD!!! I mean Geez, its not like they don't own their surgical center, its not like he can't tweak an auxilla (sp) in about 5 minutes of surgery at a very small cost to them. It would have cost me a lot more money and I wasn't about to pay for that. I was very disappointed in their lack of taking responsibility. I was told he was the best and their offices were the best in Houston. I have since gone to Dr. Sukkar in ClearLake and I would highly recommend him over Dr. Mentz any day of the week. Dr. Sukkar has a much better bedside manner, is not full of himself like Dr. Mentz and much kinder, not to mention his staff was much more down to earth. Guess you pay for the real estate too because, pricing on everything is a bit less and not so stuck up at Dr. Sukkar's office. Despite all his awards and beautiful work. He blows Dr. Mentz away. I live in CO now but I still felt it important to warn potential surgery candidates to beware!! Paying more money doesn't necessarily get you better care and you are not a patient here, you are a dollar sign! read more

I had a surgery procedure performed by Dr. Mentz almost a year ago. I have to say that I am very pleased with the results. I interviewed three other surgeons before I chose Dr. Mentz for my procedure. I also read many reviews for the surgeons I interviewed. I even read one of Dr. Mentz's papers on my specific procedure. I have to admit that some of the negative reviews caused me considerable concern but in most of those cases it appeared that the patient's expectations were not properly set. Before my pre-op with Dr. Mentz, I came up with specific questions to ask. His answers to these questions addressed many of my concerns and set the proper expectation for my result. The following are points that I felt needed more detailed review comments. * bedside manner - although sometimes he seemed rushed, he was always polite and reassuring. I also even witnessed his compassion. * addressed my questions/concerns - I had to do my research and present him with my questions but he addressed them professionally and completely * nursing staff - was polite, encouraging and professional * pre-op and post-op info - was thorough and understandable * post-op in-home nurse visit - was a nice touch but the nurse acted like she was scared to touch me. * surgical center - was efficient and prompt. The staff and anesthesiologist were polite and professional * post-op appointments - Dr. Mentz is almost always late but always had a smile on his face and answered all my questions. * aquacool machine - I doubted the use of this machine prior to surgery but it is an absolute must. I slept with the machine on the first few nights and it was wonderful for the swelling. * complimentary spa services - a very generous gift and made me feel beautiful and special * roses - received beautiful pink roses after waking up in recovery. I am updating this review because I have met Dr. Mentz and he is wonderful. He is an incredible surgeon and he worked with me like I was family. His staff, especially Analisa are so caring and supportive. I can't imagine anyone else working on me now, and my initial concerns were proven to be not the case. The time he takes with his patients, the concern for your wellbeing, and the depth of his knowledge makes him an A+ surgeon. He even obtained a new technique by working on me. My health issues prevented implants and he did amazing job with fat transfer and semi-permanent fillers. It came out even more pleasing than the implant 3D rendering. My case in particular was challenging because of the method the previous surgeon chose. Therefore, Dr. Mentz had to revise and correct another doctors poor work. Dr. Mentz, determined to have esthetically-pleasing results, revised his work (once more) and only charged operating cost!! My results were fitting with my overall features. I hate leaving bad reviews about nice people but the truth must be told. Dr. Mentz is a nice man but I believe cosmetic surgeons should be more honest about their strengths and weaknesses in the operating room. I let him do rhinoplasty on me years back and it was one of the worst decisions of my life. A decision that I have regretted every single day since. What I would give to look in the mirror and have my old nose back or to look at myself in photographs and not cringe. I went back numerous times post-op with complaints about asymmetry and much to my confusion and of course to no avail, was given steroid shots. (Never mind when I went in to have the internal splints removed post-op and his clueless assistant left one in. Despite my insistence that she had, she assured me there was nothing in my nose, only to have it painfully come out while I was at home. It felt like it migrated into my sinus.) Eventually my bridge began to collapse and I lost 100% patency in one nostril and 50% in the other so I could no longer put off a revision. The following surgeon informed me that my septum had been overcorrected. I'm no surgeon, but all I wanted was a small bump on the bridge of my nose smoothed out. Why was my septum being altered? What a nightmare this has been for me. Did I mentioned that the scar under my nose is visible also? ‍ What I would give to turn back the hands of time and learn to love the bump on the bridge of my nose. I hope my review will help someone look in the mirror at their perceived imperfections and embrace them as uniquely perfect. read more
