Henfield Post Office is, at first glance, not obviously a post office. The post office bit is hidden behind a general store, stationers and toy shop all rolled into one, which is great entertainment as you can browse as you queue. They often have odd ornaments in here and fripperies to dot about your home - I picked up a ballet shoe ornament as a present in here once, which was delicate, detailed porcelain and not at all what you'd expect to find in a post office. If you were that kind of mum that kept a present drawer, you could fill it from this place - that's exactly what it sells, toy-wise, the sort of hallucinogenic plastic concoction that you probably wouldn't buy ordinarily, but that brings a whoop of delight to the lips of any youngster at the turn of age, if only because it's luridly green and turns into a fake poo when you lick it.
The stationery side of things is good for birthday cards, and there's a small selection of writing-paper and necessaries. The post office people are all very friendly and efficient, and usually having a chat with a couple of locals whenever I go in. Bizarrely, you exit via a different door, so that it feels a bit like a drive-thru, but this certainly assuages the traffic problem at rush hour (consequently chivvying you neatly past all the stock it has to offer!) If you want to explore Henfield, this would be a good visit both for the leaflets and the local knowledge on hand. read more
