This is a cool little dive bar we visited while touring Pitt's campus. I was told it is the place to go for students, so we had to check it out. It's a nice old school bar with a nice sized bar with booths and tables for groups. We grabbed some pub grub which hit the spot on a hot Saturday afternoon. Their beer list was also good with some nice local craft brews on tap. Service was nice and attentive, and the food came out pretty quickly. Definitely a good spot to visit while at Pitt to get the local flavor!

Pierogi

Local bar near U of Pitt and my son and I stopped in here for dinner while we were visiting the university. They ID you as you walk in, and at first I didn't think they were going to allow us in given my son was not 21, but they ultimately sat us. Primarily college kids hanging here. Food was ok and about what I would expect for a bar. Portion sizes are huge and prices are good for the amount of food you do get. Service was generally good throughout our meal and refills were attended too quickly. The amount of sour cream you get with the Pierogi's isn't really enough for the amount of Pierogi's, so I asked for more sour cream, which they do charge for.

Perfect little college bar for quick bites and brews! They also offer awesome mixed drink pitchers with cool gummies for photo ops. The bartender was fast and knowledgeable! I used to come here years ago and was happy to see not much changed! ( nothing needs to be )

The classic undergraduate bar at Pittsburgh's campus, ordered the chicken Parmesan and 2 shot pitchers! Recommend ordering the Long Island shot pitchers 5 star food 5 star for safety during opening with pandemic 3 stars for service, will never be known for hospitality Per pandemic it's at 50% capacity so you are going to want to go during off hours, had to stand outside for an hour for a table of 8 at 7pm on Fr

Didn't order food, only drinks. They were over priced and the server was neither attentive nor seemingly sane.

Their buffalo chicken dip is fireeeeeee. Also you can't beat the daily 5.5$ pitcher... great little bar with lots of loyal customers.

Trivia nights are the place to be, the buckets are cheap and the people are good company.

It's been a while that I've moved out of Pittsburgh; I've found other bars that I like, but nothing has quite replaced Gooski's in my heart. I make a point to pay my respects every time I return here. Hardly anything has changed on the interior in the last 30 years. And I hope it never does. It's dark, it's grimy, it's smoky, it's quintessentially Pittsburgh. Crowd has always been an effervescent mix of ages and walks of life. The beer selection is wide and affordable. And the food is just right for intoxicated palates.

First, I wish I would have bought a Gooski's shirt. I have no idea if they had them when I visited but I totally forgot to check when I was there. It feels like the kind of place that if you're wearing this shirt in your hometown a Pittsburgh native would stop you on the street to tell you, "Gooski's is legendary." I wish I was there for the cheap ass drinks and edgy vibe when a band was playing as I love a punk rock vibe, but I think I was there too early in the day for that. The staff was cool, the drinks were exactly what you'd expect, and it's the kind of place that I'd spend way too much time in if I lived in Pittsburgh.

Not to mention, they offer semi-strong long islands for $4 all day, It's sort of a premixed concoction that's just okay in my opinion. Nothing to rave about...but enough to lure you in for price and continue to get you in for more libation. lol Lefty's is a nice and fun hangout spot for friends for sure.and a great way to get into the mix of Pittsburgh natives (people from the surrounding area). The bar is a pretty narrow space and gets packed pretty quickly, but it is a great space to watch sports and chat with people. There is not a lot of seating space as the space is relatively small, but it is still comfortable while standing. Although crowded, the bartenders are quick and efficient with drink orders. If only they sold food, this spot would be perfect. However, there are several shops and restaurants along the strip to grab a bite to eat. In all, cool little dive bar in the heart of the Strip District of Pittsburgh. Also a great vibe and place to meet up with friends for a few drinks or a pit stop while site seeing the downtown area. Stop by, get in and fit into the vibe of this place. It's fun and good times.

Roofie Central! Go to 5801 instead…read more Come here if you want to get roofied! This has been a problem for years with this establishment. The owners do not care, the employees do not care, the police do not (evidently) care! Used to come here often, but after numerous reports of this being the case, I won't step foot here again. Additionally, there is a MINIMUM $10 cover fee every night, regardless of what's going on inside (nothing to write home about), on top of that there is a minimum charge of $10 on credit/debit cards. Meaning you must spend at least $20 to have a mediocre night here. To add to it all, I've left my card here once, I was able to come back the next day and get it luckily. My friend did the same a few months later, she went back the next day and the bartender (some guy) working started discussing with her how hammered he was the night prior and that he was still hungover. She provided her ID to him and he checked the cards they had and said "sorry, your card's not here. We might've given it out to someone else" HELLO WHAT?! Maybe we should check IDs before giving a card away?! Anyways she inquired how that would be possible and he responded "I don't know man, I can't just make it appear out of thin air". Lastly, every time I've come here the bouncers/cover cashier look like they could give 0 shits about working at this job. That's all, enjoy!

I've heard so many mixed things that I have to say I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed every aspect of my experience. It kind of has dive bar vibes but the food and drink options are definitely on the elevated side. They open at 4 on Sundays and I got there around 4:15. It was already pretty busy (and by the time I was leaving, every single table and bar stool were occupied). They have standard booth seats along the windows, hightop tables in the middle and bar seating along the bar that curves along the back of the restaurant. I chose to sit at the bar since I was by myself. I was promptly greeted by the bartender. They don't hand you copies of the menu, you have to scan the QR code to access. It is easy to read and follow with sections for drinks, specials (this time they were Wicked themed as a nod to the show at the Benedum) and a sushi section. I ordered the street corn dip. The chips were a bit overcooked and the dip was just OK. I thought it was pricey for what you got. The star of my meal, though, was the patty melt. It had the burger, a bacon jam, caramelized onions and was absolutely delicious! It was served with fries. I considered ordering sushi but wasn't sure what to expect. The patrons sitting on either side of my ordered rolls and they were a nice size and looked delicious, so that is something I would consider ordering in the future. It was a place I'll likely be back to because of the proximity to the theater (although their prices definitely reflect that). Just note how crowded it always is and give yourself plenty of time if you plan on heading here for dinner before the show.
