I had Hembree Heating & Air install a new Trane unit in 2014. I feel like I've had problems with it ever since. Due to all of the problems, the head tech's phone number is stored in my phone (shouldn't have too). I have had the maintenance plan (since install) where they come out twice a year, and i'm still having to call about something, whether the air is just blowing and not cooling, shutting off and on, or just plain ol not working. Maybe its Trane. Just about every time I have them scheduled to come out and conduct maintenance, theres always an excuse why they can't come right out, or they have to cancel the appointment. Also, I have had them come out, and not fix something and have to make several trips back (thankfully I wasn't charged). Its just the hassle. Thankfully it wasn't anything major. I just want it fixed and done with. I feel like since I spent almost 11k on an a/c you shouldn't have to worry about it. Recently, Dec 2018, I had a compressor go out (plugs blew out on compressor) on my unit. No one could explain why, only that it could possibly be a power surge that caused it. However, I did not have any lightning in the area at the time, nor did I have any breakers trip. I spent over $1200 in labor installing a new compressor (jan 2019). I waited a week, without heat or a/c, for the part to come in. Thankfully the weather was cool at the time. The compressor was under warranty, so that was good. In March 2019 (month after install), the unit started making a loud noise that was unbearable and kept me up at night. A tech came out and said that the new compressor was making the noise. They said there was nothing they could do to fix it because Trane would not replace the compressor again just for a loud noise. They said it must have been a bad compressor. I personally believe that there was something else going on that was causing the compressors to go out. The last weekend of March first part of ApriI, on a Saturday, the a/c stopped blowing cold air. It was close to 80 deg outside. I called the 24hr line to Hembree and advised them my a/c was not working. They told me over the phone to flip a breaker to reset the system. After that did not work, they advised the compressor went out again, so they weren't responding because they did not have the part in stock. So, they never responded to check it. They advised they would come out on Monday to check it. On Monday I was advised since I had a case pending with Trane (ref to noise), they would not come out until Trane decided what they were going to do. So, that week I spent going back and forth with Trane and Hembree arguing on what to do, because I was not going to spend more money on labor for the same thing I had just paid for 2 months ago and no one knew what was causing the problems. Meanwhile my unit is not working. It finally was decided that Trane was going to pay the labor this time ($980). $980 was supposed to be a deal since I had already paid the $1200. So, before anything could be done, Hembree had to come out and diagnose the problem (should have already been done. Caused delay). They charged $78 for diagnosis. Thankfully Trane is going to reimburse me. Hembree said it was going to take about a week for the part to come in and that it would be installed on Monday, which was the week after the parts were supposed to come in. They were also going to replace the evaporating coil (free of charge) even though it was unknown if this was causing the problems. So, thats another week without air. Week 3 (Monday), I was advised that the parts were still not in. After being notified that the parts were still not in and I had taken off work for the installation, I decided to check with another company for other options. The other company came out that Monday, same day I called, and did a diagnosis for free. They came up with a part that was causing the problem that Hembree never checked or mentioned that could cause the problem I was having. The other company had the parts in stock and could work on it immediately. The labor cost was even cheaper than the supposedly deal I was getting with Hembree. So, basically I paid almost double the labor costs the first time I had the compressor installed. I feel like the other company is going to fix the root cause of my compressor failures. I also spoke with the company about future work that I might get them to do. The estimates were half the price of Hembree. So in conclusion, I believe Hembree is overpriced, undependable, and not as knowledgeable as they should be in the equipment that that they sell. When Hembree came out for the maintenance plan, they always asked if I had Clorox to poor down the drain line to clean it. I believe they should bring their own cleaning supplies since thats what I'm paying them for. I should not have to purchase cleaning supplies for them to do their job. However, everyone has always been nice and courteous. Nice and courteous does not keep you cool and save you money. read more
