They told me that I had to give them half of the amount for the sedation upfront (so over $1000) merely to schedule the appointment months in advance. Now, any business that wants that much upfront just to schedule the appointment makes me wonder if they are more concerned with profits than patients. In my years of making dental appointments, I have never heard of this. This was a red flag for me. Some of the pros: they work quickly and they are willing to listen if you do your homework in advance. The office is clean and there are nice play spaces for kids. They also specialize in children and give sugar free suckers to help with anxiety.

Instead, he works quickly using positive reinforcement to get the job done. His philosophy for baby teeth is to try a filling first before costlier treatments. He did an amazing job putting in a filling for our very anxious squirmy child. He's patient and kind and helps work through anxiety rather than mask it with sedation. He has amazing hygienists who are pros at dealing with uncooperative kids. We were very pleased with our experience and will be back.

As a first time client, they assessed my gum health and explained what they were looking for and how the ratings of my gum health worked. She used a water pick to initially clean my teeth (which greatly cut down on the manual scraping she had to do later - gotta love that...), then polished, scraped, and flossed. She taught me some new methods to floss more effectively (and more quickly!), and we shared some good conversation. After my visit with the hygienist, Dr. Schwalbe assessed my teeth and explained everything that I was doing well with and could improve on. She was extremely pleasant and we exchanged some good conversation as well. Overall, wonderful experience. Easily the best dental experience I've ever had. Beware! I've taken my two kids (now 15 and 17) to West Main Dental for about 10 years. We liked it…read morefor many years, but recently (2025), every time we take our kids for a cleaning we're told they have 2-5 new cavities. I asked how our kids could have so many cavities when West Main claims to have properly sealed their teeth and they said, "Oh, that happens, sometimes the sealer falls out." I took both kids to my dentist (who I've gone to for 20 years) and she said there was decay under most of the sealers, which means the teeth weren't prepared properly before the sealer was applied. My son had 5 cavities under the sealer and my daughter had 8! No wonder the sealer was falling out. Now I'm paying to have all improperly applied sealers removed and replaced by a competent dentist. West Main Dental really failed my kids. Use West Main Dental at your own risk.
