My mom and I had a move with Helping Hands Family Movers Inc, April 13 and dealt with the owner, Austin Chukwuebuka. He said he would come the PM before to assess the type of truck they would need to bring to accommodate my belongings. I msg'd the PM before asking if they would be coming by and he said he didn't think they needed to come and would see them the next AM at 9. The AM of the move, they showed up 30 min late with a truck smaller than I anticipated. He assured me that all of my furniture/boxes would fit. Austin was very charming and friendly at this time and stated that the move would begin at 930. He had brought 1 other worker. I stated that the property that I was moving from was a rental and that I wanted him to be mindful of his dirtyshoes. I asked him repeatedly if the items would fit into the truck and he reassured me. It was not until the last 30min where he realized it would not fit and suggested to use my own vehicle to move them. This wasn't a reasonable request as I hired movers for a reason and didn't want to damage my car. Upon arriving to my new home, his truck was backed up on to my driveway in preparation for unloading. As the truck was backing up on my driveway, his worker accelerated on the gas pedal while in reverse and drove the truck directly into my property, damaging my roof and eavestrough. Austin assured me that they had insurance and this would be fixed asap. His demeanour turned hostile for the rest of the move. The move into our new home was sloppy, leaving several dents in the walls and scratches on our hardwood. He had a third worker join them about half-way through the move. As a note, Austin's 2 workers were pleasant and hard-working, although 1 required a lot of direction.
There were many boxes we wanted moved into the basement as were storage and heavy. Austin was rushing stating he had another move planned, and piled these boxes in the garage, allowing space for 1 car in a 2-car garage.Once the move was complete, Austin was rushing, impatient and rude to get out of the house, as he wanted to this to be "over with". He said we should not worry about minor damages such as dents and he would come by to do patch-up work. He said he would contact his insurance company the next day to start the process on repairing our roof. The next day, Austin said he contacted his insurance company (the "Cooperators") and said his repr was out of town until Tues for Easter and would get back to us then. We heard from Austin the following week and stated he wanted to come by and patch-up our dented walls and that he would be sending roofing repair companies to do an assessment. We didn't hear from him for ~1 week. Then, we received a text stating that 2 companies had already come to assess the damage and wanted to know which day they could come to repair. Before we hastedly agreed to get it fixed, we asked for a description of the intended repairs as provided by these companies and what the exact damage was. He declined to give this to us, and believing this to be a reasonable request, we asked again. We again asked for a written assessment as provided by the companies that assessed our roof damages so we could understand what exactly the damages entailed. He again declined and said it would not be possible until we were ready to repair the roof and sign off on a dispute resolution form. He stated if we disagreed with this, then we were welcome to find our own repair company and they would pay for the repair. We didn't find it reasonable to have someone repair our roof without knowing the extent of the damages. What if they did a superficial repair and we find ourselves with a faulty/defective repair? We obtained a quote and a description of repairs from a company we researched. We were present when the assessment was done and was given a detailed description of what needed to be repaired. We fwd'd these details to Austin, who told us that our estimate was higher than his so we have to get our company to match the cost of repair to his estimate as it as almost $200 more. We obliged because we wanted to move past this and get the repairs done asap. We found a company that we trusted to do the repairs that was more suitable to Austin's cost. We forwarded him the quote to which he found suitable and we scheduled our repair. We put him in contact with the company who performed the repairs so they could liaise payment. He asked us to inquire the form of payment that this company accepts, so we did. We CC'd Austin on the reply from the company and left it in his hands. It's been ~2 MONTHS and he has still NOT PAID the repair company. Any form of communication with him from the moment the roof was damaged was berating and angry. He will say that this post is false, but I have the msgs and happy to discuss my experience over private msg. **UPDATE** Austin read this review and said he would not pay the company until I removed it #blackmail. read more
