The Helms Bakery District is a cool collection of vintage warehouses and building that have basically become an furniture area. There are multiple higher end furniture stores and places to eat. It is somewhat small so this is more of a stop rather than a whole day trip. There is a pedestrian only center street with benches and a small park. Not sure about parking as we got there at 10:30 AM on a Sunday so had no problem finding a spot.

my mom has fond childhood memories of the helms truck. we were waiting for this bakery to be built and open for business. it did not disappoint. the nutella stuffed cookie is divine. the cinnamon roll is complete decadence. topped everything off with a lovely cherry blossom matcha latte. can't wait to come back for lunch and the cherry pie sundae

I was totally expecting some delicious baked goods ... well I was completely wrong. Helms Bakery District is a plaza with various modern furniture and design retail shops as well as few well-known restaurants such as Father's Office. [Parking]: Free parking and there's enough parking spots (giant parking structure.) [Shops]: HD Buttercup/Coco Republic is the current occupant for the historic Helms Bakery building and there's a small museum about Helms Bakery inside of the furniture store. Other retail shops include Room & Board (modern furniture & home decor), Harbour Outdoor (furniture), Kohler Signature Store (kitchen and bath showroom), Arcana: Books on the Arts (bookstore), etc. Just like The Culver Steps, Helms Bakery District is a nice plaza to stop by for anyone who's visiting Culver City; however, I think this is one of those one-and-done spots unless you are super into interior design or modern furnitures. Think of this plaza as a mini version of SOCO & The OC Mix in Costa Mesa.

Had the opportunity to check out the hip-hop architecture exhibit at Helms Bakery district.it was AMAZING!! The blend of architecture and hip-hop was very insightful. To view varying perspectives of the influences of sound and building design was pretty unique to see. Also, I was able to make out some song lyrics along the walls that featured graffiti artists' Prime's work. It was a quick walk through, and it was free. We didn't have reservations or tickets. We just walked in. I highly recommend checking this exhibit out. I appreciated the diversity of this being at Helms district.

Guys, close to the metro, Culver City is renovating the area with new buildings, Art District where is in the historic Factory of Breads! Helms! Many friends have good memories from the delicious breads they did. Now, modern stores, restaurants and breweries. Take a day in the your weekend and enjoy the

A few things to explore (e.g. bookstore, restaurants like Pasta Sisters) but the space is mostly filled with home/home designing stores. So if you're looking for that, this is the place for you! Plus there's 2 hours of free parking in their parking garage if you did want to stop by. Interestingly, there is a mini museum section in the store HD Buttercup on the old Helms Bakery District. If you stop by, be sure to look for the man on the bread bus :)

For the eater-ays part of the trip, we decided to visit Pasta Sisters in the Helms Bakery plaza in Culver City. We used to live in the area many years ago, and back then there was only the HD Buttercup furniture store. Now there are several home stores, a book store, and a couple of restaurants. There is a small lot in the back of the plaza, and there is a good amount of street parking all around. You can access the plaza from 3 of the 4 sides, so it's easy to go there; despite the general busyness of the area.

I was in Culver City and decided to check out this place. I have been here before in the evening for a Louis Poulsen event and did not get to look around. This is a great collection of stores offering furniture and interior furnishings. Like high end Ikeas, the price range is many times over that of Ikea but they offer a huge range of tasteful modern designs. If you are looking for higher end modern furnishings, this is the place to go.

Out went one of the last jazz venues (Jazz Bakery) and in came even more furniture, fixture, and culinary supply shops, some of which are quite large, but dwarfed by the massive sprawl of the historic Helm's Bakery. This must have been one helluva operation whenever when was. At least the property didn't succumb to neglect and serve as a de facto homeless shelter. What is it now? Slightly removed from the revival effort in downtown, the Helm's District is a side tour, and on account of the size, I really saw nothing except the exterior driving by. It's true that I had lunch in one of the restaurants and was wowed by a vast furniture store, I didn't have time to explore, so this time it was a reconnaissance mission. Pros: open, clean and well organized with maps and pedestrian walkways. Cons: parking. If you're lucky to get a side street spot, set your timer on the low side of two-hours. This is another example of gentrification, but if that means clean and safe, so mote it be.

Who knew?! Passed by the Helms Bakery District a number of times over the past few years. Didn't realize what it was about. Today we decided to check it out. After valet parking the car for free, we wandered through several of the furniture showrooms. Wow! Such an eclectic mix of design styles. What made it so fascinating for me was the high contrast of the old bakery buildings with the current interior design merchandise. Much of the lighting options are quite unique from what you'd see at a typical lamp store. There are decor styles for every taste among the different showrooms in the complex. Several restaurants are available along the pedestrian mall area, along with benches to take a break, and a whimsical water feature. Can't wait to take our niece there when she's in town again! There's so much to see.

Very beautiful chandelier in the center of this awesome space.

We hired Ron to do the architectural plans for the remodel of a fourplex. He came in with a fancy camera scanner to measure everything, a very efficient process. He was very much on time with the delivery of the initial draft. We discussed minor changes and submitted to the city, and they had just had a few minor corrections before approval, which is better than other architectural teams I have worked with. After we began work on the project, we discovered a beam in the ceiling was not pointing in the right direction, leading to the need for a revision to the plans. The engineer Margarito went on site and approved changes, which allowed us to quickly adapt. Overall this was a very streamlined process, I would be happy to use his services in the future and can very much recommend him.

The timeline was totally reasonable (honestly, my slow email responses probably added more time than anything on their end), and the plans were approved by the city on the first try, which was a huge relief. It was also hard to find someone willing to take on a smaller project at a fair price, and they were very thorough. Even months later, they've still been responsive with follow-up questions from our contractor. Would definitely recommend, especially for smaller renovations or additions.

We sat on the curb across the street, looking at the house, pondering how in the world we were going to change the looks of this house. Finally, we called Dane (he had designed our neighbor's house) for advice. He created a beautiful design that was easy and relatively affordable to build. It gave our house a slight modern feel but still fit nicely into the neighborhood. After we moved in, tons and tons of neighbors told us that they couldn't believe how well we changed the look of the house. We received compliments for 6 months from neighbors and friends! A year later we were due to build a porch in the backyard and again contracted with Dane. Once again, he designed an amazing porch that fit seamlessly onto our house and into our backyard. He transformed an awkward, poorly planned patio into a sophisticated outdoor room. Dane's plan for our porch exceeded all our expectations. He has an enormous talent for designing projects that are graceful, beautiful and affordable to build. We continue to get compliments on how great both projects are as well as enjoying the terrific utility of both projects. We highly recommend Twichell Studios!

Having worked with them for 2 years, I now realize most of these reviews are either (1) 5+ years old or (2) from people who work there - Alex S, J M, etc. I spent about $120k and the last 2 years on a 4-bedroom remodel with Letter Four. I have *nothing* to show for it. No plans, no permits, nothing. Just a home that I cannot live in with some holes in the walls and ceilings (they just enough minor demo that I can't live there and then they disappeared - fun!) What I do have are shady invoices (they pad their invoices, double-charge you, refuse to send you receipts even after you ask 5x, charge you for everything they can with a 20% markup - Ubers, printing fees, software fees, etc). What really bothered me is that they pay their Project Managers almost nothing and then they charge you $200/hr for those PMs work. When I tried to do calls with them to understand the invoicing, instead of listening and admitting their mistakes when they very clearly double-charged me for the same things - they yelled at me. The owner Jeremy talked over me the entire call. (To his credit, he did apologize for not letting me get a single word in - he said something like "I've been told I do this to women"). If you want to work with two really arrogant people who want to talk a lot about how great they are and how right they are but won't listen - by all means, sign up to work with these folks. The work itself isn't just subpar and sloppy - it's actually unusable. They were constantly making mistakes - you'd send them measurements and then get the plans and everything would be the wrong size. I never got a window schedule that had windows that matched the plans. They never got approval for a permit for the plans they created. They made so many mistakes, it's laughable. I hired a new Engineer and Contractor who both can't stop cracking up about Letter Four's work. "This isn't even to scale! Look, they have the downspouts at the highest points of the roof! Look at this - that part must be a joke, right?!" For the prices they charge and how arrogant they are about their experience, they deliver really sub-optimal work. They claim their high hourly fees and high-end rates will make your remodel easy for you - but I found that working with them is 5x more work than with my new contractor. (Message me if you want his info - he's *amazing*). Finally, their design aesthetic is really cheesy. It doesn't match any of the photos in their portfolio. All their design proposals felt something you'd see in a cheap flip. It was a total waste of money to pay for a "design + build" firm because I ended up designing every inch of it myself. Another reviewer called them "awkward" and I 100% found that to be the case. Their online portfolio is great, but actually working with them is a total nightmare on every level. Most people don't love their contractors - but you will LOATHE these people. I guess if you want some cool horror stories about your remodel, this is the company for you!
