They have a small parking lot but it fills quickly on the weekends, so park a few blocks away then pull up to the loading zone in front to pick up your purchases. Nice selection of plants big and small along with beautiful and pricey ceramic pots to complement them. I went specifically for herbs which were all healthy and they had a wide selection of even some exotic herbs like Thai holy basil. Prices on plants were very reasonable, on par with big box corporations. Service was very knowledgeable and although they get slammed during peak weekend hours, they are very kind and helpful when you find anyone available. read more

Whenever I go to Sawtelle, I always make it a point to at least do one walkabout this Nursery which is been such a neighborhood staple for so many years. This past Sunday I went through with some friends would never been before, and we purchased some pots and plants for our homes to spruce up summer. The staff is always was so helpful and the selection around the nursery is endless. It's also so nice that they even have a special section for indoor plants, to make choosing what type of plants you want for your home easier. The pot selection is also great, with so many different types to choose from ranging from classic ceramic to ones with a little bit of whimsical vibes. Drove all the way down there from Ventura because of the great Yelp rating for Bonsai. This is the first time Yelp has let me down so spectacularly. The place looked stocked but otherwise abandoned, there were two guys wandering around but paid no attention to us, and could have easily been customers. We saw one rolling cart with about a dozen sad looking Bonsai trees, all the same type. Finally my wife asked one of them if they worked there. "Yeah" She asked if they had any bonsai other than those on the cart. "No, that's it." So it shouldn't be a total loss we went to Versailles the great Cuban place on Venice... so I'm over it. read more

We bought 4 topiaries for our front yard and 2 beautiful ceramic planters, which we'd been looking for and hauled them back to Northern California. Seems unassuming from the outside but Hashimoto's literally has everything. We were recently shopping for trees for our atrium in the house and I feel like everything I asked for, they had. I was so happy not to have to drive out somewhere far to find a tree, and they delivered it to me within hours. We love this nursery, they have such a great selection, they are so helpful, and it's right down the street in the middle of the city. I sincerely hope the developments never push Hashimoto out. I like coming here because there's a good selection of plants and there's free parking. I didn't get any help today (no one approached me) but the last time I was here there was an older gardener that helped me grab a bag of soil while I shopped. My plants are loving the Fox Farm soil. I don't usually see a lot of pots I like here. Wish there was more variety and style in both terracotta and ceramic. Some plants didn't have a price tag so you'll need to double check prices. read more

So cute. Grab a boba and walk around this gem. I had no idea this was here but they close early so check the hours before you go. So many beautiful plants for sale. Much better than buying a plant at a grocery store. If it weren't for lack of parking, and having to park blocks away from my destination, I would never have discovered this place. They have a whole greenhouse for indoor plants, outdoors, they have succulents and flower plants that looked pretty and interesting. For those worried about Sawtelle traffic, parking is very convenient here--they have their own small lot and their location is just north of where Sawtelle gets very busy, so street parking is very doable too. The nursery has a wide array of plants, including an extensive "Indoor Plants" section that I like browsing. They also have your basic needs such as pots, soil, fertilizer, seeds, etc. and at very fair prices. Plus, the staff is very kind and informative--I had a question about taking care of my Money Tree plant once I had returned home, and they kindly answered my questions over the phone. Note their hours when planning a visit since they close before Sawtelle gets busy for the dinnertime rush. I highly recommend coming here! read more

Excellent nursery all around at the heart of Sawtelle West LA with plenty of yummy eats and desserts nearby. Appreciated how this nursery is family owned and run. As you stroll in, hand crafted pots greet you. We especially appreciated the big coffee mug style pots in blue and brown colors and all of the cute turtle, hedgehog, etc style pottery and ceramic and clay pots in all shapes, colors, and sizes. Love their collection of succulents and indoor plants along with trees, fruit trees, hanging plants, trellis plants, and more. Such a calm and soothing and beautiful place to be. Likely the last living piece of Sawtelle history here! Me. Hashimoto is still personally attending to his family business after many decades. With all the urbanization and gentrification going on in this neighborhood, I am concerned that it's just a matter of time before this little oasis is turned into a mix use apartment complex. But before that happens, we can support this small family business by buying plants in occasion when we normally buy flowers or come here to get a personal education on how to start a small garden. Their $2.99 tiny cacti is a fun way to start a small collection of your own draught tolerant greenery and their indoor plant section has many different varieties. Mr and Mrs Hashimoto are always friendly; as are their workers. Even if you don't intend to buy anything, a stroll around the nursery is quite pleasant and , dare I say, therapeutic?! We came here on a nice day right after a delicious and memorable lunch and were able to find parking on the street, which was free since it was a Sunday. Everyone was wearing masks at this time, so we had nothing to worry about. We browsed through every section and enjoyed the array of plants in this nursery. They have plenty of supplies for gardening and provide helpful information when it comes to taking care of your plants. After considering several options, we ended up buying a small succulent, gardening gloves, and a spade. The property is huge and smells super fresh- I would love to live in the apartment next door because I'd be able to smell the aroma everyday! Large stock of colorful smaller decorative annual & perennials to accent the garden with splashes of color in the front half while there are larger trees & shrubs in the back. Good selection of herbs & vegetable seedlings. You have to hunt & peck for Japanese vegetable seedlings since they aren't all grouped together which would have been more convenient for me. Rather they are grouped together by plant category so that a Momotaro tomato would be placed among other tomato varietals such as Super 100's, etc. Lawn statues seem to be more of occidental aesthetic themes compared to nearby Yamaguchi which seems more oriented to Japanese or East Asian. Also no Japanese Bonsai plants or other Japonaiserie at least by cursory inspection. Bought Ao Shiso, Aka Shiso, Shishito- pepper which all looked healthy & perky, but at $5 a piece it was a bit higher than I had expected. However, if they perform well, the old adage, "You get what you pay for" will apply. Time will tell. There is a small parking lot for customers just north of Hashimoto to avoid paying for meter parking on Sawtelle. For now, 3+ Yelp stars. read more

Purchased plants from Hashimoto for my kitchen window herb garden. Within a couple days they were dying. The mint was infested with bugs and the basil had a fungus. Luckily I caught the bugs before they had a chance to spread to my other herbs. I called the nursery to find out if they would replace the plants since I had just gotten them. I spoke to management and was informed "No plants are guaranteed." Well then, I guarantee I will not be buying plants here again. read more

Hashimoto is a mainstay of Sawtelle, bring a large variety of plants to the people of the area. It's a pretty big nursery where you'll find everything from flowers to herbs/tomato plants to succulents to monsteras. There's also a solid section for pots and garden statues. It can be a bit overwhelming for those new as there isn't clear section labeling or pricing on things, but certainly worth a stroll these days (mask on and plenty of space, even with the increase in number of people getting into gardening, and no line vs Ace Hardware). The outdoor plant variety is more expansive than Armstrong as well. The usual sawtelle street metered parking available and a small lot for 4-5 cars. read more
