I started using meal kits near the start of the pandemic and was alternating them around. My primary one I use is Dinnerly due to price and selection but I have used HelloFresh and have had no problems before. I took it off pause to use a gift card from my brother in law which made the promos from before no longer valid (from when I restarted after my surgery last year) but the promos seemed to not be working anyways. I particularly liked this weeks recipes and the premium Dutch Baby which we love from Original Pancake House. For the meal kit we were looking so much forward to we get a text saying it was delivered but we get no notification from the apartment so we looked at nearby apartments and my wife shows the delivery picture and they say they cannot find or recognize where it came from. I talked to their customer service who falsely claimed it was on the truck still and the delivery picture was an error and to contact them again if I do not have it by 8pm. Still not around in my building by 8pm so I contact them again and the agent says he can only refund the amount I paid and cannot reissue the gift card which was most of it. I say they are being dishonest and non-accountable as a company and are also not loyal to their customers making it the worst customer service experience ever and he said all he can do is escalate it. I just looked at the delivery picture more to see which company shipped it and I scroll to right and see it was likely delivered across the street along with two other boxes. Maybe we will find it in the morning, but hoping to get some incentive back from the company and especially get the gift card back if it is missing. I had a similar issue with SunBasket but they took accountability and gave me a credit which I used once but stopped my membership due to their rising costs that were greater than that of other services. Having had good experiences with them before, it will take a lot for me to continue my membership past the time I can use the gift card if I ever can. If I cannot use it and they continue acting poorly, I will be filing a complaint to the BBB. read more

I have had nothing but issues with the box not showing up, or it arrives damaged, or the produce is not ripe or super small. It is such small portions of things like cheese. I get a box for 4 people and the cheese and some items seem like it is barely enough for 2 people. I call and never get any help. It is dissapointing. read more

At first, I thought Hello Fresh was a good alternative since I'm a single person. The portions are small, so it gave me more of variety in having different meals. Unfortunately, over time, Hello Fresh would mess up my meals by not giving me all the ingredients for all the meals. Then there were a couple times the onions made my eyes watery, it made me cough a lot, and I had trouble breathing. Unfortunately, that was not the worst incident. I have used Hello Fresh for years. Loved it during Covid. I just decided to renew my membership. It was great when I saw price of first box. Then the next week showed up 2x as much! I called customer service and was told that the code I used was only for that first week and if I had another code I could try that. Trying my best not to rant. My children pooled their money for 2 gift cards (each $60) to cover our first 2 orders after the discounts they saw advertised. I opened an account as a subscriber because I was planning to be one. We chose our food and went to apply our gift card number to pay. Here's what happened: Their website is not set up to accept Hellofresh gift cards as payments. They consider them a discount, and you cannot apply your paid card to any food upgrades (like premium meat) or shipping/handling. To use a Hellofresh gift card, you must forgo the new subscriber discounts they advertise, and place a full-priced order to use the gift card. In my situation, I read that you could pause the subscription to use a card - not so. I was locked into the food I chose as a first order (which I meant to pay for with a gift card), couldn't change the date, or even completely cancel my order and toss the cards out the window. You don't actually submit an order: they already have your payment information. You choose a date and the meals, and then apply any discount code you may have. The new subscriber discounts they advertise are a discount code and your gift card is a separate discount code - you cannot use more than one code at a time. In our experience, we made multiple calls to customer service, and they finally agreed to cancel the original order and confirmed you can only use one gift card at a time while paying full price. You have to completely exhaust the card before applying the 2nd gift card - and the 2nd card can only be used in a different order. What if your balance is $59 and your card is worth $60? You would need to place another order, pay full price, and get $1 off the full price. Your additional card cannot be used until your next order. Here is the scam: they advertise 12 free meals and free shipping on your first order. Break that down free shipping the first order (not all of them) and the meals are broken down into free meals over the course of your first 7 orders. If you want to use a Hellofresh gift card, you have to replace the discount code for the new subscriber discounts with your gift card - so you lose all the free meals. Additionally, you can't filter your meals by dietary restrictions. You have to click into and read each meal's recipe to see what allergens are in the foods. Hello Fresh surprise you with charges then refuse to refund you, and use contradictory excuses such as 'it isn't possible to amend your delivery date because it is already processing' (2 minutes after you've ordered), but 'we can cancel it entirely'?! Or that you 'can't have a refund because it's 5 days before dispatch', even though they had only charged me 1 hour earlier (so naturally I had only just realised), they bluntly said no. I had to stay home all day with my 3 year old on a Saturday because they would not change the delivery date (2 minutes after I'd ordered). Then, they surprised me with a £52 charge and would not refund it, meaning we had no money for shopping that week. Their customer service is exceptionally poor, the worst I have experienced, infact. They are condescending, unhelpful, seemingly incompetent, and completely robotic. There is no room for mistakes, no flexibility on delivery times or payments minutes after you have made your order. You will not be treated fairly. You will not be looked-after as a customer. Use Gusto instead. There is a reason Hello Fresh has a low score on here and everywhere else you look. P.S. Below they will say it's because they needed to think of their suppliers and that I was clearly warned before checking out. It's non-sense. I got in touch with them moments after the order was made - it wouldn't have even been processed, let alone affect their suppliers. And as for being warned... we all make mistakes... I have used Hello Fresh in the past and decided to restart my subscription. I got my first box and everything was fine and then when I was charged for my second box I was charged 2 times. I reached out to hello fresh and they said they had no record of it and could not refund me the second charge. I reached out to my bank and disputed it, but due to unfortunate timing, Hello Fresh sent me the third box and it was over 48 hours late and hello fresh refunded me for that box so my bank thought that hello fresh refunded me the second charge and closed my case, so now I have to put even more hours on the phone to get this issue resolved. I now am being penalized for a computer error and even though both charges are from Hello Fresh they will not take care of it. read more

I tried only one box it was high in calories, 1000+ PER MEAL(!). The meals are also high in sodium. Additionally, they don't have many calorie conscious meals. Not worth the money. I've been using HelloFresh for about 31/2 months now. It started off all well and good but recently I've had ingredients missing and even missing recipe cards. I called to speak with their customer service reps., who are of course, not native English speakers, and it's frustratingly, difficult to get across just what my problem is, let alone get a resolution. I have enjoyed their menus and the simplicity of their cooking, as well as, they don't have scads of packaging so you don't feel like you're polluting the environment. Hello Fresh, with a large meal selection and reasonable pricing is likely the standard that other meal prep services are judged by. For me, it's been a mixed experience. For the first two weeks out of 4 (I still have 2 boxes to go), the box was delivered after dinner time, which meant that I had to cook something quickly on each Monday since I had no idea of when the box would arrive (usually get it early or mid-afternoon with other meal services). Fortunately, the food arrived completely cold, though this may also be a function of winter delivery. While they may have a large selection of dishes, the types of dishes do begin to feel a bit repetitive from week to week. There's also a rather large selection of spicy dishes, flatbreads, pastas and the recipes haven't all been amazing. This is unfortunate because the preparation time can be fairly substantial for some of these, which in many cases is due to a time consuming activity like making sauce. Besides trying to eat healthier, part of my motivation for using a meal kit was to save time in cooking and to get a tasty healthy product, which wasn't always met by Hello Fresh. For example, instead of using a pesto sauce on a flatbread and mixing cream, garlic, and other ingredients for a sauce -- I would've preferred a premade sauce with fresh basil to cut down on preparation time and provide a fresh flavor. Similarly, I feel that some steps (particularly in cooking vegetables) could be combined to save time and create a similar product. Portion sizes can vary considerably from dish to dish as well. While no dishes would really be considered small, some dishes definitely seem to be more generously portioned than others. Of everything I've tried, I didn't dislike any dishes in particular so far, but unlike Gobble or Home Chef, I can't point out any dishes I loved in particular either. Unfortunately, since the extra charge for the more premium dishes is quite high, it is actually more expensive to order luxury items from Hello Fresh than a service that has these available by default. Overall, it's a mixed experience with Hello Fresh. It's not particularly bad in any aspect but it's hard to find anything that it excels it. So it is an alright service to use, mostly because of competitive pricing. read more

I am so upset I started HelloFresh as an aid to my family since we just had a baby. Figured not having to stress about groceries and recipes would make our life easier since we added a new member to the family. We then went to visit some family and I tried to cancel, but there's no such option on my phone. So I skipped several weeks. Now we are in a tough financial spot currently and I got a charge of 183 dollars for a new box, apparently my weeks resumed. Within 3 minutes I contacted customer support to ask for their cooperation, explained my situation. Answer was a firm no. Monetizing of people "forgetting" because your system doesn't allow the automation to cancel on your own, is absolutely ridiculous, unethical and should just be illegal. At the very least send an email to remind that a box is coming and to customize it - I didn't even get that so I'm getting some random recipes half of which we don't eat. Needless to say I will not use HelloFresh ever again. read more

My partner and I ran into so many issues with the quality or the ingredients. Things would arrive smashed or rotten, and when we complained, they would provide us with nothing besides store credit. Which apparently can't be used in conjunction with other deals. That wouldn't have been a big deal however, they then permanently had a 5% deal on all of our orders that we couldn't opt out of. We have loved every meal we received from this company. Recipes are super easy and come with almost everything. A few things I've had to provide were already in my pantry like cooking oil, sugar, salt and pepper. Delicious recipes and I love how each meal comes in its own paper sack so it's easy to know what goes with each meal. Will definitely use again! read more

You have the flexibility to order up to 6 meals a week with no contract. You can easily skip weeks, deactivate or activate your account with one click of a button. The customer has complete control if they follow the time restrictions. You can order meals that are family friendly, vegetarian, pescatarian, meat & veggies, quick & easy or fit and wholesome. There is a significant up charge for upgraded meals in each category but you get what you pay for. Their free meal offers are misleading because the offer is a percentage off the cost of each weeks box and their free gifts are a insignificant. read more

Very misleading business practices. I signed up and wanted to try the service but then realized the ACTUAL cost and canceled before I finished signing up. But too late, they charged my card and sent me a box despite my cancelation. When calling customer service, they refused a refund, referred to their TOS and hung up twice. The second time, the hang up came in the middle of their agent talking...which was odd. Hindsight, I would never give this company my personal info and I sorely regret being duped. The box arrives tomorrow and I'm not holding my breath quality wise because if you have a good product and good service, you don't need to resort to shady business practices and lean so hard on your TOS. Keep a sharp eye on these folks! I cancelled my account many years ago, but three days ago clicked on an ad on facebook, looked at their choices, then clicked off. I received two texts informing me of delivery, then found a charge for delivery and a box I did not order. I have been received 4 weeks of shipments usually having 4 meals for two. The food is tastes really good and is quick and easy to make. The ingredients are individually packed so you add what you want and they have simple instructions. The portions are generally too small for both of us and have to make sides or other things to eat as well. This is a common occurrence and maybe 3 out of all our meals have been enough to fill us. The freshness is not always guaranteed and you will have to make due with what you get. I have opened the boxes within an hour of being received and the ice packs are always completely frozen still. So it had to have been shipped that way with how they look upon arrival. On this last order, one of the sealed food boxes arrived damaged and not usable. I reported it, which was easy and convenient, and the amount for that product was refunded to my account. I called the customer service and they were nice and polite, but the apparently unfortunate part is that I am prior military so I receive a discount on products. According to their policy, I CANNOT use the refunded amount until I cancel my discount. They will not allow me to credit it to my next order unless there is no discount or coupons, will not refund amount to cards, and will not mail a check for that amount even if I close my account. So if you ever have any issues and have any discounts from their products, you will not get your money back or be able to use it. read more

These bad reviews are crazy to me! I've had Hello fresh for 3 months now. Every box has had the correct ingredients, the food quality is excellent!! The produce has been perfect and fresh every box. I got a dinner with tomatoes and I was nervous about the tomatoes but they came perfect. I'm eating them now. Every little tomato was perfect. That never happens. This is the first food box product I've kept and will keep. I used to use Gobble and it was freaking terrible. Every piece of produce was trash, Hello Fresh is the best. Maybe where you live matters, I don't know but I'm in Salem, MA and its great. Even my neighbor, who is quite the picky and uppity sort, and even she gets Hello fresh. read more

The food is decent but the service if full of hidden charges & they make it so hard to connect the meals to the bills that it's not at all clear what you are being charged! I just realized that most weeks I incurred additional charges from $5-$40/week which brings 3 meals to $100+ (not the advertised $70). When I called them on this they insisted that the pricing was clear on the site. Obviously from all the negative reviews this isn't true. Hello Fresh is a scam. "I was initially impressed with the first Hello Fresh box I received but then came the 2nd and 3rd boxes. The boxes were missing some ingredients and the recipe included didn't indicate the required quantity of some ingredients. As a result, I decided to cancel my subscription. However, even after three years of unsubscribing from their mailing list, I'm still receiving letters from Hello Fresh via the United States Postal Service. I've contacted their customer support every time I've received a letter requesting to be removed from their mailing list. They apologized to me and assured me that they had taken me off their list, but after a couple of months, I started receiving letters again. This has been going on for three years. I have copies of all mailings and every phone call. I contacted the Better Business Bureau, but Hello Fresh keeps lying to them and telling them that they have contacted me directly (which I did not permit to do) and that everything is settled. I keep rejecting Hello Fresh's comments. Hello Fresh doesn't care about its customers or their requests. My next step is suing them for harassment and stalking. read more

The second experience with hello fresh was a big disappointment. Received a Christmas gift box from hello fresh, was so excited but when I went to claim my gift I had to enter credit card info, sad... I proceeded with the process and entered my card info so that I could claim my "GIFT" which was relatively simple and straight forward but now since supplying them with my card info weekly delivery gets automatically turned on, which I did not want... after receiving the first order I attempt to cancel which Hello Fresh does not make easy, their selection menus have everything you need to order or add to your order you can even add multiple cards and methods of payment but try to remove one of the payment methods and you can not, look for a simple cancel button and there is non to be found... Before it was shipped, I went to their site and cancelled all orders, but despite receiving an e-mailed confirmation that this was done, the order still arrived. Upon contacting customer service, I was told my cancellation was for *future* orders, not my upcoming order (which I never placed!). Too many beans and rice filler in entrees, not enough chunky crisp veggies. Really, everything in this week's order could have been sent in cans and we could have skipped the preparation. Tonight we had a curry dish and it was full of beans and rice and a few little bits of peppers. This is NOT healthy for me and NOT worth the price! I want LOTS of green tender-crisp veggies, fewer meats stuffed into tortillas with more beans and rice, and more cilantro/celery/dark leafy greens. It doesn't have to be vegetarian, but these entrees come across as CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP! If you want to save time, purchase those supermarket bags of chopped Asian or other vegetable mixes, add onions/garlic/spices, low sodium sauces, and your protein -- done! If you wish, serve on brown rice or inside whole grain flatbreads or ... Lots of choices. Just don't choose HelloFresh unless you want lots of cheap beans, rice, and flour tortillas. read more
