UPDATE**** 3/20/17 I was contacted by Heller's just now and they have offered to repair my driveway.**** If there was 0 stars, I would have given it. Here is a copy of a complaint I filed with the BB this morning. These people are unscrupulous and will not take responsibility. Do not buy Propane or anything else from them. "On or about 2/6/17 I received a propane delivery from Heller's Gas. (My wife has the bill at home so I don't have the exact date but I can provide that if needed) 2 days later I noticed that there was a large davit in my driveway where a vehicle had bottomed out. There were only 2 vehicles that had visited us in those days and 1 was FedEx and the other was Heller's Gas. I called both and asked if they could talk to their drivers and get back to me. FedEx opened an internal investigation and it was proven that they had a regular van that came to our house and there would have been no reason for the van to need to use my turn around (paved hill) and additionally, regular cars or vans will not bottom out in my turn around. I called Troy of Heller's Gas and he told me that he would talk to the driver and ask her if she recalled bottoming out in my driveway. Based on the damage, it would be impossible for someone to not hear the impact/scraping. I waited and waited and waited. I texted pictures to Troy and left him voice messages that went ignored.Eventually he referred me to Jason the manager. Jason also ignored and avoided my phone calls and eventually told me that he was waiting to hear back from his boss as to what they were going to do. All I ever wanted was for them to talk to the driver and ask her is she remembered bottoming out in my driveway. Instead, they took a vow of silence which to me felt like an admission of guilt. It has been over 7 weeks since I first called. I called and left a message last week and told them that I would be filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau by the end of this week if I did not get a response. They do not care about their customers and seem to take the route of ignore and hope the customer gives up. This is unacceptable and the only resolution I will accept at this point is a complete repair of the damage. I appreciate that the BBB exists otherwise people like this would continue to treat their customers like garbage and get away with it. read more

They came and picked up my tank that was full and was told I would be refunded for the propane in it. Was never told about a service charge. When I inquired today about the refund they said they used it to cover the service charge and was told they didn't need to tell me because it's on the back of all the invoices. ordered propane online on Sunday with my tank at 15%. It's now Thursday night, still no delivery and my tank is now at 3%. I doubt I'll have any hot water or heat by the morning and will have to pay a $120 fee for a safety check if the tank is empty. Also, what's with the $9.95 delivery fee each time the tank is filled! A delivery fee is usually for the option of having something delivered but since there is no option, unless someone can tell me how to pick propane up in my car, how can there be a fee? read more

we have been disappointed with Heller gas from day one. And it just keeps getting worse, you never know when they are coming. They send you I text saying "your next delivery with occur in the next 24-48 hours. That is a pretty big window. And then they failed to deliver within 48 hours . Customer service is very poor. Been asking for 5 months for them to pick up their tank. 60 days ago I posted an "abandoned property" ad in the paper and no response from these idiots. Guess what?! $175 TERMINATION FEE. Really? After 5 years as a Heller's customer, they charge a $175 fee to cancel service with them. Hands down the WORST company in the Carlisle area. We only had a propane oven - everything else in the house is electric so we told them from day 1 that we will call when we need propane. They started showing up to deliver at random months of the year, charging the $9.95 delivery fee to drop off 3-4 gallons of their overpriced propane. We'd call, they'd "switch us back" to the yearly/will-call plan, and that would be good for about 6 months until they started the 2-3 month delivery interval again. They also eventually started adding a ridiculous $5.50 fuel surcharge fee - to the deliveries that we never called for. $9.95 delivery, $5.50 fuel surcharge, and $5.99/gal propane. What a bargain! After we had enough of them, their fees, and their endless lies, we ordered an induction oven and cancelled Heller's altogether, only to find out they charge a $175 termination fee. A fee that you won't even know exists. A fee that you'll have to pay, even after being a customer for years like we were. It's not an early termination fee, it's a "we hate our customers and are incredibly greedy so we'll stick it to them one last time" fee. This company is as crooked as they come. You will pay more in fees than you will in propane. By the way, the $175 cancellation fee is not mentioned on the 'fees' section of their website - instead, it is mentioned on the 'legal' page under the 'Customer Care' section. Second paragraph in the second column, in the tiny type 4 font. If you're looking for a propane delivery company, look elsewhere unless you enjoy regularly being ripped off! They never told us they were filling our tank. They just came and did it. What kind of business does that? We told Heller that we do not use gas enough ti have the tank filed. They over filled the tank and admit to doing that. They put our lives in danger and our neighbors by overfilling our tank. It leaked everywhere and we had to call the fire department. It took Heller 7 hours to come and get the tank. They admit the tank was defective They had to leave a tank on our property and we didn't want it after the incident. They were supposed to come and get the tank and never did. Now they want to charge $150 to come get the tank and refuse to waive the fee. All they did was beg me to stay with a company I don't trust whatsoever. They offered me a really sloppy sorry and a $25 credit for our troubles. read more

I purchased a home with a Heller's Gas tank on it. I got the tank and the gas inside as legal property in the sale. The company disabled the tank after no communication and tried to force me to pay for what was inside. It took providing legal paperwork for them to even continue communicating with me. Our house is all electric, so we have no use for propane. I tried to get a refund, and eventually after them dragging their feet, they said they'd pick up the tank and refund us for the gas inside. I wanted to be done with them at this point, so I agreed. After no further communication for a month, I eventually called them to ask where the refund was. They then informed me that they were charging me for picking up the tank and the gas inside wasn't worth enough to give me any refund and that I'd actually owe them money. I asked if they could just give me the gas back if they would refuse to give me my money back, and they said that they wouldn't unless I payed them hundreds of dollars for a full tank. I refused and was told to just hang up the phone in that case. These people are crooks who will bait and switch you. I wish I never contacted them or had anything to do with them. Please, whatever you do, never give these people any money or talk with them at all. I wish I hadn't. read more

This company has the WORST customer service. I thought Shipley was bad, Hellers is terrible. We were customers for 5 years, which is mostly due to me being too lazy to switch again. Bad Experience #1 - Initially received tanks with a very small amount of propane. We set up auto delivery and we were assured they would not let us run out. My husband and I watched as the tanks drained to fumes, calling Hellers multiple times to no avail. We run out of gas at 11pm, call their emergency dispatch to a very rude employee who insisted that it was our fault we ran out and threatened us with astronomic emergency fees if he were to send someone out. We needed gas, so we resigned ourselves to paying the fees and had someone come out. We fought the battle for days to have them waive the fees, and eventually won, but they treated us lousy and I should have immediately switched at that point. Bad Experience #2 - Ran out of gas again this last winter. Called and requested delivery, was told they were swamped and would delivery in a week. A WEEK! WITHOUT HEAT! IN SUBZERO TEMPERATURES! We were outraged and began calling and messaging them on Facebook. Phone calls went to a voicemail service. Eventually they responded and delivered by the end of the day. But why put us through that? Bad Experience #3 - the rates were great when we first signed up, and then by year 2 were consistently $0.50 to $1.00 more than average rates in our area. I was too lazy to fight it, but I should have. They reel you in and then nickel and dime you every chance you get. Bad Experience #4 - LAST STRAW! We decided to purchase our own tank so that we could have more control over our propane deliveries. When we switched from Shipley, they refunded us for the propane left in the tanks, so I assumed Hellers would do the same. Nope. Won't pay a dime for the 100 gallon of propane we have in the tanks, and will not transfer it to our new tank. But they offered to buy our new tank from us so we could continue to be their customers! Not a chance, Heller's. You guys are crooks. Seriously, go with any other company. These people are terrible! Bad experience beginning to end. Good riddance! read more

I moved into a property with a hellers gas propane tank. The appliance connected had been removed. So there is 0 need. They tried charging me for what the previous owner didnt pay for. They refused to remove the tank.Now they keep saying they delivered top off of 3 gallons and want $250 Worse company EVER !!! Get your tank and stop lying about top off deleviery. Heller's Gas is amazing! They now have a generator specialist name Bill and he really knows what he is doing. My generator guys insisted that I had a break in my 18 month old gas line and there was nothing wrong with their 18 month old generator. Bill (from Heller's) came out, tested the gas supply, tinkered with the regulator and diagnosed the problem with the generator. He even taught me how to make the generator start!! He also called the generator vendor and explained to them what the problem was!! After two months of fighting with the generator vendor, Bill from Heller's figured out the problem Thanks Heller's! They have good prices. However, there is a lot to be said. First, DO NOT SIGN UP FOR AUTOMATIC DELIVERY! Save yourself the trouble. I have a 100 gallon tank. They will come and fill 12 gallons and charge you a $9.95 delivery fee every time. I called and they took off delivery and I paid for the gas but asked to be taken off the list of automatic delivery. The guy said he did. I asked him a few times before hanging up and he said he did it right away. That was in January, I believe. Now in March we were not going to get more gas because winter is almost over and they're filling my tank again!! This time less than 30 gallons!!! Apparently I'm still on automatic delivery!! Brings me to my second point: if they screw up, too bad for you! I called and they said a manager will call me. I missed the call because I was in the hospital with my grandfather. I call back and I'm put on hold for 10 minutes before I just hang up. He finally calls back and says he'll only waive the delivery fee! I said I did not want the extra gas and I'm not paying for it and they were more than welcome to come and get it. He said he would talk to corporate. Today I got a call back from corporate who left a message saying that they could not find any record of me calling in January and that I never asked to be taken off of automatic delivery. And that I still have to pay for the gas. IT IS YOUR FAULT THAT THEY ARE UNORGANIZED and did not record anything in January except that I paid for the gas. Last point: The customer service people are nice but have no idea what they are doing. I'm constantly told wrong information when I call or they don't do their job they said they did (like take off automatic delivery). The managers and corporate people are NOT NICE. They are cocky and rude. There is a way to conduct business and that is not it. They think they are better than you and they act like it. You work for a gas company. Cool your roll. You aren't that important to treat people like trash. I have not paid the $70. Do not know when or even if I will. Maybe next winter when I would have ordered it. To wrap up: Great prices. Three years since I last asked for a refund of my money, None as yet. I just called and asked for my money back and again and at first, the regional guy supposedly said "the amount of gas that was left in the tanks when they took them was not enough to provide a refund after the cost of picking up the tanks! I had the really big snowman looking tank at first, that was full, and they had come and "refilled" it, before I could catch them, charging me well over another $100.00 to fill a full tank. I paid that, still did not use any of it, and told them to come pick up the tank as I no longer wanted it. They talked me into accepting a small, cooking stove size tank, filled. I let them, although I did not want it. After thinking it over a few months, I called them and told them I do not want it, come and take it. They finally came to take and I heard nothing. I called and asked where is the money I paid to fill both these tanks. They said, "we don't usually give refunds". I said "What?, I paid good money to have both of the tanks I have had filled and now it is still not any refund?" They replied they would see what they could do. Today, I gave it another shot and called again. Spoke to a nice sounding, maybe young man and he said it will have to go through corporate. I asked how long, and he said I don't know. You will have to call back and check on the status. I do not hold out hopes. That is more than $450.00 that I had invested in those two tanks of gas. Probably at today's price more than $500.! Absolutely, positively the most horrendous service. We had 2 100 gallon tanks on our property with Heller's when we moved here. Thinking we were stuck with the supplier, we used Heller's for 3 years, dealing with abysmal "customer service" (they hate answering the phone and getting a delivery to you) and extortionate pricing. It would cost easily over $400 to fill both tanks. You absolutely MUST have a $0 balance before you get them re-filled. After paying off one such balance of $463, we scheduled a delivery. A few days after, we got a flyer for a competitor. After speaking to them on the phone, and asking about their pricing, we realized we can pay $100 or LESS for a top off - no waiting until the tank is low! Imagine that! So after we called Heller's, explained that we are going to switch to someone else, they verbally (BIG MISTAKE on our end) said that they would remove the tanks, measure the difference, and pro-rate us. Ha! That never happened! We were then served a court order to pay them or lose our stuff. We lost the court case (since we had no proof of the agreement), and sure enough the sheriff came and took an inventory of stuff in our home to settle the $700+ bill. Heller's couldn't be bothered to call us (or answer their own phones) and settle this. They are a bunch of rude, crass, shallow, and unscrupulous business owners. Buyer beware! Cheaper alternatives are out there with companies that WANT to keep you in their good graces. read more

Absolutely horrible service. We had a will call account with Heller's, on multiple occasions they made deliveries which were unneeded and unasked. Most recently we get a bill in the mail with late fees from a deliver in May which we never received a bill. They delivered 0 gallons of propane and charged us $235, the usage fee for a 200g tank. We only have a 120g. They claim this fee is for tank maintenance and our safety, so it needs checked every year. Later when on the phone we asked why they didn't come out in 2020 if it was for our safety, the woman's response was, "uhhhh...covid?". The customer service rep has no interest in answering our questions about the bill, she just keeps saying if we go with a smaller tank she can make the fee go away. Phone call is going nowhere, we will look at our records and call back. 4 hours later a work crew from Heller's is at our house taking our tank, which was full of propane we had paid for. After speaking with 3 people, all who were unwilling to listen, kept cutting me off, and were all around bad bad bad at customer service. The "manager' was the absolute worst. They are unwilling to waive the bill or refund us for the stolen propane. read more

I have had issues with billing from the very beginning with Heller's. I advised them on multiple occasions that I was out of town for several months and to MAIL a bill when they filled me up. Deliveries came and no mailed bill. When I finally did find out I owed for a delivery not only did they tell me my account was frozen till paid but they assessed me a late charge. I asked about the mailed bill and they had not sent me anything. They did take it off the first time. Same thing happened again with the next delivery. This time I did not bother to ask them to remove the charge, not because they were right, just because I am getting very tired of this company. Going to start looking at the alternatives. read more

I've been a costumer with them for two years and it is the worst costumer service I ever seen yeah they might have cheap prices but but they get there money back out of you with cancellation fees even if you payed for your gas in full they owed me $259 and said I had a cancellation fee of 150 and were only going to give me 109 back how that right there just snakes hiding things from you and not telling you things a costumer should know if there was a zero I would give it use someone else and save your self the headache and save your self money read more

Swear to God, how are these people still in business!? And how do they get such significantly lopsided reviews? I have been dealing with miscommunication, over charging, promises to "credit" their own mistakes and lack of delivery for literally two years. This week alone I have dealt with no fewer than three salespeople, the latter of which today (Josh) had the nerve to tell me I "didn't get to talk to him like that" when clearly I was upset at having to explain my situation a third time since Saturday. Zero customer service and Jason at the Carlisle office ought to be well aware of me by now, yet I still have no gas. After being put on hold for over a cumulative half hour, where my husband had to take over the call because I had to return to actual work, David was somehow able to get me scheduled and tell me for the second time this week, I should "have never been charged the fee" I have been disputing. I pay my bills on time, every time. This was/is clearly a recurring issue and I have yet to have a pleasant experience. We will see how much longer it takes for me to actually receive a delivery. This will be my second winter with Heller's Gas. It's not starting off well at all. Heller's was living up to our expectations at first. Then in March of last year my husband was watching the tanks and noticed the tanks were getting low. He had to make 3 phone calls requesting our tanks be filled. They were all but on the empty. Then this year, Heller showed up right after Thanksgiving. Our tanks once more were all but empty. Now 3 weeks later, we ran out of fuel. I phoned them the evening we ran out but there was no one to take the call. So much for 24 hour service for emergencies. Fortunately we have an electric fireplace and a couple of space heaters. And thankfully it wasn't brutally cold out so we were relatively comfortable. My husband phoned them first thing the next morning. He requested the check the lines for leaks since it was only 2 1/2 weeks since the last fill up. They came to fill up the tanks but no one was here. The valves were shut off and a note was left saying there were no leaks, along with a bill for filling up both tanks and it took 2 trips to do so. I called the office to see if there was anything I needed to know. I was told by the customer service rep that everything was fine, there were no leaks. I asked if someone was going to be returning to get make sure everything was connected because my stove didn't work. Her response was I would need to go outside and turn the valve on myself. And they consider that customer service? It's bad enough they don't have an HVACC tech, but to expect someone with no experience working with propane to do what normally would be done by the service/delivery person is NOT my idea of customer service. I will ride out the winter with them but come spring I will be looking for a place with better customer service for my money and comfort. read more

These people are crooks. I moved into my house a year ago. There was a huge Heller's propane tank already here to heat the pool, which we have never used and didn't want. We never called them for service, to fill the tank or anything...ever. And yet Heller's has tried three times to gouge us for several hundred dollars a pop by sending someone over, unannounced, who enters our private, gated yard without so much as a phone call (we've repeatedly asks them not to drop by without at least calling), stomps our garden, and claims to be filling the tank. We never ordered propane, we never asked for the tank, we notified them that we were the new homeowners, and they never came to get their tank nor did they ever tell us we would be charged for having the tank. Then they bill us for several hundred dollars for a product we never ordered that they claim is being put into a tank that we've never used. The final straw came today, when out of the blue they notified us that we owe them more money - several hundred - for a tank rental fee! And yet right on their website it says THEY CHARGE NO RENTAL FEES. They said they're having problems in their administration, etc., to explain their repeated billing mistakes, but every interaction I've had with these people has been initiated by them and it's always an attempt to get money out of us. I never once ordered their product. To their credit, they always end up writing off the charge, but this looks a lot like scamming unsuspecting people by delivering product never ordered and then overcharging for it.
