Honestly, feeling a strong sense to give a one star review. Never thought I would be asked to leave…read morethe table "because the next party has arrived"... and at a Greek establishment? With wine still in our glasses, and coffee still hot?! Sorry, have to give a HUGE thumbs down on service. And offer my disbelief and dissatisfaction at whoever is managing this restaurant and borrowing from Greek culture, whilst missing out on the key component of Greek dining. Either you're a sell out. Or you're an outsider and you're exploiting Greek culture and cuisine. One the website we get: "MAZI, which means 'together' in Greek", but it should be followed with, "... but don't take too long, we will ask you to leave." Having said all of that, and trying not to affect the rest of the review, food was not great. Mushroom Chicken was the best dish (was the priciest line item - second to their service charge - but the only dish that I was impressed with). Tiger Prawn risotto was very bad (both the prawn, and the risotto). Grilled Octopus was average (size, prep and quality of octopus left a lot to be desired). The Calamari Citrus was also less than average. Lot's of the seafood sadly missed the mark - Tuna Crudo was the most satisfactory of all the seafood items. I will say that the cocktails were prepared well. Including a welcome drink. And the juices were fresh - albeit expensive. In fact, everything was overpriced - but it is London, I get it. Still wish the food tasted better. The atmosphere was loud and energetic. The cherry on top was the service charge (highest line item on the bill). Cheers to ownership and management for appropriating Greek culture and putting a heavy London spin on the dining experience. My family would have had some choice words for you, thankfully they were not present to be insulted. Anyone wanting Greek food, I would recommend to look elsewhere. The culture and cuisine has A LOT to offer, unfortunately Mazi disappointed for us.

Came here on a recommendation of a friend who lives in London and we were not at all disappointed…read more We started with some great cocktails and I really enjoyed the Aegean Negroni I opted for; the addition of black pepper simple syrup really added to the complexity of the drink. Every single dish we had was superb, from the jars of tzatziki and tiropita to the crispy calamari and seabass tartare to start. The fresh bread, which was lightly charred, really paired well with the tzatziki and tiropita which were lightly whipped and so flavorful. The seabass came with a cucumber and jalapeno broth which had just the right amount of spice to elevate the fish. For main we split the lamb and grilled octopus which were both perfectly prepared. The lamb, which appeared to be sous vide, was cooked to an exquisite medium rare and the octopus had a great char both was still tender. The service and setting were both great and we highly recommend this establishment.

I loved the feel of the place. Small but generous in personal space. Extra effort was made to make sure our party of 6 were comfortable. And the food was delicious. The welcome pre dinner treats such as olives, radishes, and peppers were delightful. Then came the hummus--best I have ever had. The king prawns were simply cooked and wonderful. Everything was so fresh! The calamari, the Greek salad. All excellent. The entrees our party enjoyed included lamb, chicken, spanakopita, falafel, and so much more. If I lived in the area, I would frequent the place. I even commented to my wife that I could see myself landing at LHR and making my way straight to Aphrodite!

But our host was the most pleasant man and fished out items from the kitchen that weren't only vegan but also delicious! To begin with, even without ordering anything, pitas, flava bean salad, and olives, which, by themselves, more than hold their own. The falafels are one of the best I've tasted in London. And the hummus was unbelievable. For mains, the dolmades were excellent. Even the roasted potatoes that our host offered, and which weren't on the menu, were amazing. Overall, the chefs and hosts at the Aprodite Taverna take real joy in feeding people. And I'd definitely go here again: for the food as well as the service.

My wife is Greek - so we fully appreciated the quality of Retsina's food - and it was outstanding!…read more Hidden off of the high street, this seems to be a place known only to the locals of Belsize and Hampstead. The staff are very friendly and warmly invited us in to eat. We didn't make a reservation, which is unusual for us, but they were able to accommodate us on a Friday night anyway. We arrived at 7:30 - and by 8:00 the place was completely packed! The meal started with a nice selection of olives and fresh veggies. We then ordered spanikopita, a Greek salad, and lamb souvla. The spanikopita and lamb souvla were excellent. The meat of the lamb was so tender from roasting on the spit that I was able to hardly touch it with my fork and it fell apart. It also came with a nice portion of tzatziki to accompany the lamb. We also enjoyed the Greek salad - and raved about the fresh feta cheese that was used to make it. We concluded the meal with a sweet Greek coffee - and and complimentary Turkish delights! The Greek side of our family is coming to London in a few weeks. This will certainly be one of our first stops. I highly recommend!

I had octopus starter, good texture, but you could tell it was boiled in water, rather than in its own juices. It was then flame grilled, and had picked up the flavour of other meats from the grill, not really what I wanted to taste. Main was a massive T-bone steak, looked great, tasted ok. the salad that came with it was generous, but overly salty feta and heavy olive oil. The meal was slightly above average for a local restaurant but the bill was too high for what we received. Sadly, will not be returning.
