I adore small business coffee shops. They may not have all the fluff of the big chains, but they make up for it in warmth and charm. Helena's, located in The Fountains Mall in Plantation (right next to Kohl's), is exactly that kind of place. They offer pastries, empanadas, and sweets, and their coffee is consistently delicious. I usually order the chai tea latte -- it knocks my socks off every time. The staff is always friendly, and the atmosphere feels like a true neighborhood hub. You might see a book club meeting in one corner, someone working away on a laptop, or a soccer mom rushing in and out with her tiny tribe of mini athletes. They even have a loyalty program where after so many visits your next order is free -- but that's not why I keep coming back. read more

The place is cute! It is nice and clean. It is good spot to set up and spend some time there. However, I didn't think the food was worth it. I got the Salmon Avocado Toast (salmon, cream cheese, smashed avocado, and capers on a piece of bread). The food tasted alright, but to pay almost $12 for what I got was a little absurd. The iced coffee was good but nothing special. The service was average too. Parking is easy since the place is a part of an outside mall. I came in here around noon on a Thursday and it was absolutely PACKED. Every seat taken and very loud. My party and I got lattes and you're able to pick your milk of choice and flavor. We got an iced cinnamon bun and a dulce de leche latte, both with oat milk. They were both made very quickly considering how many people there were there. The dulce de leche was very good, but the cinnamon bun flavor was not. The way I would describe it is it's as if you didn't just taste or smell a cinnamon candle, but took a complete mouthful of one. I came here on a friends recommendation and I'm glad that I did. I ordered their grilled chicken sandwich along with a dulce de leche latte. The sandwich was good and did the job, but the dulce de leche was my favorite item. It was delicious and not overtly sweet. The ladies at the front were super nice and provided great service. The place is super clean and has low volume music playing so it's perfect to come here and study, coffee date, or grab a bite to eat. I would recommend. read more

An absolutely awesome and cute little Cafe right in Plantation. I've driven past it many times but I'm so glad that I was decided to finally stop here one morning I had nothing to do. The staff was very friendly and greeted me as soon as the doors opened and asked us to give them a few moments because they were cranking away at orders currently. A couple moments later I was able to place my order and I decided to get the Cafe Au Lait. My wife got the Mocha Latte. A few minutes later our drinks were ready. The Cafe Au Lait was so refreshing. It had the perfect amount of milk in it and the coffee was incredibly smooth. There was a nice amount of ice and it didn't water the drink down in any way, even with me taking my time savoring the drink. The Mocha latte was really good and had the right amount of sweetness to it without being too overpowering with choclate flavoring. Prices are very reasonable here and if you want an iced drink for any of them, it is an automatic large with no way of getting a smaller size. The place was very pretty and I liked the different portraits on the wall of different locations around the world that the drinks were designed and made after. Ordered the Alaskan Helena's Special for $10.35, which consisted of a wheat bagel with smoked salmon (lox) and cream cheese which was ready within five minutes. I am a lox connoisseur and was pleasantly delighted by the freshness of the fish with the scent of a wheat bagel. They offer many pastry items, coffees, teas, smoothies and milkshakes in addition to light brunch type eats. The bathroom was spotless boasting cool light blue paint and light brown wooden flooring. Helena's Coffee is a great spot for food, snacks like pastries, coffee, and more in Plantation. I'm always on the hunt for a space to work from with wifi! This time, I was in the Plantation area and, after a quick search on Yelp, I found Helena's. It's a cute lil coffee shop with a good amount of seating, perfect to work from or even catch up with a friend. It was clean and super easy to order from the register, but I warn you, you'll be tempted by the pastry case & display. I had to grab some empanadas, banana muffin, and a mini alfajor. For drinks, we got an iced matcha latte (of course) and one of the iced tea drinks. Something to note- the iced drinks only come in one size which is the larger one. Now I typically can't even finish a small matcha drink but this one was so good, I finished it by the end of the day! I only added macadamia milk (another plus to them for carrying this milk) but it was the perfect amount of sweet. The space itself was so ideal to work from. Comfortable seating and tables, plus nice light that streams from outside on a sunny day. I'm excited to come back the next time I'm in the area and might need a place to work from. read more

Cute café! After seeing this spot at a plaza near my place, finally decided to take a quick stop here on a weekend morning. Inside was spacious with plenty of seating and tables. There was quite a few people inside but nice and quiet. There are a lot of drink options ranging from the coffees, teas, smoothies, etc. They also had seasonal drinks as well. Also as it is a cafe they do have a variety of pastries. I ordered an iced Mocha latte. Absolutely delicious. It took willpower not to chug the whole drink right then and there, lol. I love this little coffee shop! Its super clean and quaint, and service is always great. While waiting for your order, there are a few comfortable areas to sit. They have a nice offering of menu items including sandwiches, salads, desserts. I go in especially for the chai tea latte. It's always perfectly done and tastes great. I absolutely love coming to Helena's. Not only do they go all out decorating for each major holiday, they are extremely pet-friendly. I usually bring my dog and get a latte, tequeño, and a pan de bono. I've also branched out and tried a croissant sandwich freshly made with turkey and swiss, which was very reasonably priced at $6 and change. I didn't even know about this place until Marilu F. suggested it. A quaint little coffee shop that knows how to treat customers well. We found a cozy corner to settle in and waited for our food I ordered a medium coffee and it was huge. Everything about it was perfect. The spinach empanada was wonderful too. I can see why they are a favorite here. It was fresh and had lots of spinach. This is a great spot and I will be stopping in again when I'm in the area. The service was excellent. Their espresso and coffee selection was great - plus the pastry case looked delectable! The team was friendly and welcoming. I got an iced cappuccino, perfect for a refreshing energy kick in the Florida heat. I enjoy tasting my actual espresso - not sugar - and this was perfectly balanced. I had been in this plaza before and never realized this was here. In fact, I only knew of the existence of this coffee shop thanks to Ariel W.'s glowing review. I meant to go on Easter, but given that it was a holiday, I called first and it looks like they were closed as they never picked up. No matter. It's completely understandable and so instead I went another day with Mary Ann C. This little coffee shop is very spacious and has some quite comfortable couches. We sat there while we sipped our coffee and had our treats. I opted for a small little cheesecake mousse thing and she had an empanada. Given that there were no complaints, I'm assuming we were both happy. I know I was. As for the coffee, we both ordered the medium size and were surprised how big it is. It'll definitely keep you caffeinated all day long. I'm kind of sad I'm moving and unlikely to return for quite some time. Nutella cappuccino iced w/ half and half 8/10 I really liked this drink which usually can be too sweet but it was the perfect amount of sweetness. The only thing is I really couldn't taste much of was the espresso flavor but that is usually what happens when you get a drink like this, it kinda becomes like chocolate milk. Okay, this is probably my favorite new-to-me coffee shop in Broward. It pretty much has everything: a nice ambiance, comfy seating options, a full menu of beverages, snacks, and meals, friendly service, fast wifi, fair prices, all the self-serve coffee condiments you might want, free and easy parking, and clean restrooms. That said, I will say that my coffee itself (12 oz americano) wasn't the best, being a little bitter/burnt and watery, with a lingering aftertaste. Still, given everything else, and given that other coffee afficionados seem to like the product here, I'm happy giving them 5* for now and giving the coffee another chance in the near future. read more

I was in the area hiking and needed a caffeine fix and snack and I found Helena's in the nearby Fountains a few doors down from Kohls. Helena's is always decorated for the holidays and during my visit it was dressed for Valentine's Day. They have a few tables set up on the patio out front along with more tables inside and a lounge area with a couch. Helena's serves all of your favorite hot and cold beverages along with savory empanadas and sweet pastries like a macaron, blueberry scone, nutella croissant, and apple and cream braid. I opted for their Valentines Day special of a cupid mocha iced latte and a ham and cheese empanda which was warmed up for me. My chocolate coffee was the perfect pick me up to keep me going through my afternoon errands and the empanada was the right size to curb my hunger. Fun fact: In October First Lady Jill Biden stopped by for coffee and an impromptu meet and greet at Helena's with Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz whose district includes Plantation. Helena's is so cozy and I love that they have a sign on their door stating they are dog friendly. Such an inviting cafe and welcoming staff! I was immediately greeted as soon as I entered and had such a lovely experience with the staff. They were just so genuine and friendly. I quickly placed my to-go order and received it within minutes. Plenty of parking and seating inside and outside as well! They warmed the raspberry white chocolate scone for me and the flavor was amazing! Texture wise, not very much a scone, but the flavor alone is worth it. I absolutely loved the iced mocha latte with macadamia nut milk. First off, it's my favorite type of milk alternative AND it had the correct coffee to mocha consistency in taste. My go to study spot! This place is clean and plenty of tables for people to sit and have a coffee or even a sweet pastry! I ordered the spinach croquette, & the beef croquette, I liked the spinach one better! This was $4!! It always smells so nice in here! We also ordered the chocolate almond pretzel pastry and that was super tasty when it was warmed up! I ordered the iced caramel latte as well as tried the latte version and it was tasty! I'm so happy to have another local coffee spot so close to me! I'd been following Helena's since before they opened and was thrilled when they finally did. Staff is always attentive and ready to serve or answer any questions. The inside is usually nicely decorated for the holidays, but maintains and nice, modern decor, regularly. I don't have a dog, but I love that the outside AND inside are doggy friendly. Today I got an oat milk latte, blueberry scone, and pan de bono, to go. The latte is delicious and strong, just like I asked. The pan de bono hot and savory, and the scone was more muffin than scone, but still delicious, so I can't complain. Parking here has always and continues to be challenging. But I found a spot after a few go arounds. They have indoor and umbrella covered outdoor seating. Loved the decor and the vibe. It was bright, clean and had cool tunes. Unfortunately the service was sorely lacking. My iced latte was really bitter, even after adding sweetener. I was only able to drink half before throwing it out. The beef empanada had a nice dough and filled heartily but the beef lacked flavor. Not a spot I'd likely return to. read more

Just walked in when they opened for business we ordered two coffees - cappuccino and latte - as well as two pasties- pan de bono (Colombian cheese bread) and a Nutella croissant. The coffee was spot on - very flavorful. The pastries were decent. What sets this place apart is the friendly service. So many times I have walked into a place sleepy and in need of caffeine and I get the barista with an attitude not wanting to be here. And I was hoping to get some work accomplished, but unfortunately, between the five loud employees behind the desk and the group of cackling ladies at a table in front of me, I could barely hear myself think. I'm so confused. I thought people were supposed to be quiet in here. And then this weirdo came and sat across from me and started taking pictures of me. End it was obvious! I am so confused. Is this Allowed in a coffee shop? And I thought coffee shops supposed to be quiet? Not loud, laughing and Employee's yelling from the register to the back. Love this new spot that opened in the Fountains plaza. The coffee is amazing and the food is equally delicious. I've tried a few things, but my favorite thus far has been the dulce de leche latte (iced). The empanadas and croissants are so tasty. They also have a sweet almond pretzel pastry that's fantastic. The owner, Jorgelina, and staff are so friendly, helpful and accommodating. They helped me tremendously when I needed to do a pre-order for a fairly large coffee order when I was in a hurry.
