The missus sent me to Kevin Kelly interiors. The brief was simple, get drapes for the sitting room... not curtains, drapes...what's the difference? The shop was full of curtains, cushions and interestingly, wallpapers - custom made wallpapers - did you know you could order such things? I didn't! ...the drapes? nope, I failed miserably, she had to go herself!

A good and cheap way to furnish the home is of course to check out the charity shops and auction houses selling second-hand homeware, but when I can finally afford to perk up my flat with nice new designs (the day will come, i'm sure), I'll remember Kevin Kelly. Changes don't have to happen overnight. I can start with one pillow at a time.

When we first visited the Tallaght branch, the staff were extremely helpful, especially Colm, who really went out of his way to assist us. This gave us confidence to go with Deskelly, even though their pricing was only average compared to other quotes. We chose them because we expected professionalism and reliability from a larger company. Unfortunately, the reality was very different. Endless Postponements: Dates we had confirmed in the shop were not entered into their system. More than once, I was told last-minute that the fitting was postponed, including on the very morning I was expecting them. This caused huge stress, especially since I had to rearrange the delivery of a new bed and other furniture several times. Customer Care Issues: Communication with customer care was one of the most frustrating parts. Calls were cut off while I was still talking, promises of follow-up were not kept, and I constantly had to chase updates myself. The lack of respect for my time and situation was very disappointing. Inconsistent Fitting Standards: The LVT team did an excellent, clean job. The carpet fitting, however, was messy and inconsistent. Some areas were left unfinished, and in one case the fitter admitted he had used leftover carpet because the measurement hadn't been done properly. Since Deskelly themselves took the measurements, I don't understand how this could happen, and I was left feeling like I had to accept poor standards for something I paid a premium for. In the end, the work was only completed after weeks of stress, delays, and unnecessary back-and-forth. For a company that presents itself as professional and charges above handyman prices, I honestly expected far better. Overall, while some staff tried to help (again, Colm was excellent), the overall process was exhausting, uncoordinated, and frustrating. I would strongly urge Deskelly to improve their communication, scheduling, and accountability so that future customers don't go through what I did. I left this experience frustrated and disappointed, and I genuinely cannot recommend them.

Sure the astronomical costs for delicate steel-ribboned chandeliers and huge, dripping front hall-bling pitched most of the stock far out of my budget. The showroom itself is incredible, and it's clear to see why major hotels and developers look here for something special to sparkle in multi-million euro lobbies.

Lovely friendly staff and extremely helpful. The fitter who was an outside agent for Carpetright was equally businesslike and efficient - he arrived to fit the carpet on the agreed date and called me in the morning to tell me approx. what time he would be arriving. He even called again later to say he was running a half an hour late. Now that, to my mind, is excellent service all round.

Keep in the heat. Having a beam of light penetrate through my eye lids and induce momentarily blindness each AM was getting rather annoying. "We need curtains." "OK, what do we do?" "I have no idea - do I look domesticated?" "Yelp it?" "Yes, that might just work." I had no idea that curtains come in lots of different sizes, colours, shapes, fabrics and yeah. So I brought the shoddy curtains that we had been putting up with. "Oh dear." "I know, it's a nightmare in the AM." "Sure that's dress material." "That's one damn ugly dress."
