They were so nice to me, gently letting me know that my YSL bag was a counterfeit, to educating me on why a diamond studded red velvet dress is a hard sale in the middle of summer. They don't take brands you are familiar with, but I did see some Nautica and American Apparel in there...but for the most part no H&M, Forever 21, Hollister, Abercrombie, zara etc. Beautiful collection of vintage clothes, from a Jacqueline Onassis inspired pink dress to a Save the Earth vintage denim jacket, and a planet on it's back studded with sequins. What made the experience especially upsetting was the contrast between the store's self-presentation and how I was treated. This is a vintage/counterculture-looking space in San Francisco, with a sign at the entrance advertising itself as the city's "No. 1" vintage store, yet I was made to feel like a risk object rather than a customer. I did not feel welcome or trusted as a non-white customer, and I would not feel comfortable returning.
