For a small town (14k) you are sometimes surprised when you find a really great Mexican place. Small towns always seem to get the best locations. We went on Monday but they were closed. We pulled up and there was a sign in the door.. closed today, see you tomorrow! So we came back the next day.,sure glad we did. I wanted to try everything on the menu but I know o can't eat that much. So my provider ordered what I did not and we were able to taste each other's food. I got the shrimp taco, elote, and agua fresca watermelon (fresh watermelon was used and has a great taste). My provider got chicken taco, shrimp taco, flautas, guac and chips, and barbacoa taco. It was also good. Some of the best shrimp tacos o have had. The creama sauce was just the right amount. I got the elote on the cob but you can have it in a cup. Perfect amount of mayo and cheese, a great char to the corn so it had a smoky taste. I would have eaten there both nights if I could have. I would have tried the whole menu. The chicken taco and flautas has a great taste. Very well seasoned. read more

This food was so fresh and delicious, and the service was friendly! The shrimp tacos were my favorite, I loved the sauce on top and asked for more to put on my fish taco as well, the corn tortillas were one of the best I've ever had and I'm from So. CAL. My mom loved the steak Nachos, and my aunt really enjoyed her birria! We all tasted the elote, which was pretty good as well. I would highly recommend this place. I've been at JAX state an entire semester. I can't believe it took this long to try this place. The high rating is legit! You won't be disappointed. read more

I stumbled upon Heirloom Taco while looking for another restaurant that ended up being closed. So glad I found this place! My friends and I were able to order and sit down to eat right before they closed. The associates were super nice and even though they were nearly done with cleaning, they welcomed us and didn't rush us. I ended up ordering the grilled shrimp tacos and black beans with cilantro rice. My food was well seasoned and the ingredients tasted fresh oh and the shrimp was so delicious. Whatever sauce was on those tacos need to be sold by the bottle!! It was so delicious...I wish I could've taken a cup with me. The bag of duros was also good and well seasoned. This place also has good vegan options. All in all, it was a great meal and I look forward to eating here again. read more

Heirloom Taco - Grilled shrimp tacos with cilantro rice and black beans - Mexican Near Me - Jacksonville, Alabama

This was our first time here, we had a couple of different margaritas, the little appetizers, which I'm not sure what they're called, but they were very tasty and had a little kick to them. My wife had the ground beef quesadilla. And I had the Asada tacos. Will definitely go back again and try something different. read more

Wow this was a fantastic find by my buddy Jon! We were looking for a late lunch after an afternoon ride on the Chief Ladiga Trail. To start with, any place that gives you free appetizer munchies is already off to a great rating. Here, we were provided a chip-like savory snack. I have never had anything like this - I thought it was pork rinds at first. But it was actually duros, a type of Mexican snack made from fried pasta. Savory, salty, and satisfying - even before the meal. The tacos were fantastic - I got the al pastor, chorizo, and fried chicken. Lots of quality ingredients - the fried chicken one was crispy and big, yet still juicy. The aioli was a great addition. The al pastor and chorizo were very good, but the fried chicken taco stands above these. Good portions of lime rice and black beans. The best part of this meal, however, was not the meat. It was the in-house made corn tortillas! These were really unique - they are different from the fresh corn tortillas I get at the Mexican grocery store. Still great consistency and taste! The tres leches cake is a must-have. I got the fruitty pebbles, and my friend got the cinnamon toast crunch. It was phenomenal. You could easily tell that the cake and the frosting were made in-house. The cake was super moist, sweet, but not over the top saturated with that crappy sugar taste you get from a Walmart Christmas cookies. Good prices especially considering everything is heirloom and fresh, except for the Gulf shrimp. A great find (by my friend Jon) and a congratulations to Jacksonville State for having this in their backyard. One of the easiest five star reviews I've had in a while. read more

I have heard so much hype over Heirloom and it truly lived up! This spot is tucked away of the Jacksonville square but makes for the perfect lively spot in this town. We started off our meal with chips and queso and a bag of duros. I've never had duros but they had the perfect lime and tajin seasoning with a great crunch. They honestly made the perfect addition to dip in the queso. For drinks, I LOVE a restaurant that had margarita pitches and margarita flights. If you're like me, Heirloom has both! We got a pitcher of blood orange margaritas. I got a flight with prickly pear, peach and honey, strawberry, and spicy mango. My only complaint with the flights is that there is a lot of syrup that is added to the bottom and If you're not prepared you'll only get a sip of syrup. Even thought I got to try all of these flavors, my all time favorite was the blood orange!! You MUST try this flavor. I also loved the spicy mango if you like a little spice. For my meal, I got the taco bowl with fresh gulf shrimp. This had a nice creamy sauce added to the top with beans, rice, corn, and some other fresh flavors. My sister got the regular with steak, and my brother in law got the nachos. The guac on the side of the regular was delicious and fresh. The portions were great and the food came out hot and fast. The staff also made sure to check on us throughout the meal. Even though you order at the counter, there's no pressure to order immediately. Also, the bar has seating that you can just come grab a drink and chips and dip! Definitely loved Heirloom and so worth the try! read more

Nice little place to get tacos. The people and music playing aren't exactly Mexican but it still tasted good. The sweet tea wasn't good. I'm sure it's due to the water used to make it. read more

Through the lens of Jacksonville: 5 stars. Big city rating: weak 4. The bag of duros were super fun. all of our food hit the level of pretty good with some creative options. Nothing blew us out of the water but seems like a really good option for this area and one of the few vegan options read more

Me, my mom, and my best friend went to Heirloom on a Friday evening. We were happy to arrive and see that the tables were spread out and there was patio/open-air dining. Heirloom operates out of a garage, so there's fresh air flowing through no matter where you sit. After being seated, we ordered pineapple margaritas and our server brought out complimentary duros with tajin to the table. They were so good and addicting. And the margs were amazingggg. My mom and I ordered the birria quesatacos and a side of elote while my best friend ordered a shrimp taco and guacamole. We also got another round of margaritas, but this time I ordered a grapefruit marg - it was good too. My friend said her shrimp taco was delicious. My birria tacos were okay. The meat and consomé were GREAT! But I didn't like the corn tortilla; it was falling apart and their tortillas are homemade, so it was thicker than I'd like. The elote was solid though. Maybe next time I go I'll get birria with flour tortillas and try that out. Regardless, Heirloom is a hit! I'll definitely be back to continue supporting this local business. read more

We made the trip from out of town to check out Heirloom Taco - and it was worth the drive! This restaurant is located in the center of town in a restored old building. I loved the vibes - form the casual seating, high chairs for little ones, bright menus and friendly staff. The food was excellent! Everything was so fresh and flavorful. I love that they partner with Oxford's Southern Girl Coffee and have extensive coffee flavors. We will be back! read more

This place has really good food and drinks. It's a little on the pricy side,But it's definitely worth it ! Highly recommend.

Looking for something different and filling? This is your go to place for good food. Great food, and great staff.

So happy this restaurant opened in Jacksonville! They carry authentic, fresh Mexican food. This is definitely not your typical Mexican restaurant you find in Alabama, it reminds me of something you would find closer to the border. We ordered the quesadillas, carne asada, Barbacoa, flautas, and the fried avocado- all was very good. The meats are all very well marinated and the tortillas were made in house. The service was also very good, and the prices were very fair. It's something to taco bout! read more

great food! great atmosphere. good people and drinks too. love the duros and that they have kombucha!

Incredible food and service. There's a wide variety of options and everything we've tried has been delicious.

I have been an Heirloom Taco addict since the beginning. I remember my first time trying Heirloom Taco at an event hosted in the shell of this place. The place was so bare, so cold, and yet you could tell it was filled with so much love & passion already. When y'all first opened I knew I had to come see the changes, to view the atmosphere y'all willed into existence. I wasn't sure at the time what my go to was going to be so I literally ordered two of every taco on the menu to find what my husband and I would like the most. Over time the menus changed, but my constant favorite will forever be the Taco Bowl. I could eat here everyday if I could. The food is always well seasoned, fresh, and the staff is friendly. When covid happened, y'all survived. When the fire happened, y'all survive. This wasn't just because of luck or some miracle... it was because of the passion, determination, and drive y'all have to provide us with the experience that is simply... Heirloom Taco. read more

Southern California Mexican Food Truck. But in a college town in Northeast Alabama and in an old fire department building. It's so good. I've had almost all of their tacos at this point and they're delicious. The elote is awesome. The corn tortillas are, as far as I can tell, homemade rather than store bought. I've had both and can usually tell the difference. What is worth coming for, however, is the dessert. Tres Leches cake with Cinnamon Toast Crunch on top. Om nom nom. As if that all wasn't enough, they bring out Mexican wheel chips before each meal. The food is a little pricy for the area but sheesh is it worth it. read more

Atmosphere is great but we found the food just ok. Rice was crunchy. Beans tasted burnt. Tacos were good. The highlight of the meal was the homemade tortillas! They are very very good! Bartender.... Didn't know the menu, couldn't recommend anything, had no personality, made the wrong drink, seemed confused when we asked about drinks and food ("I don't know"- a common answer). She didnt know if we could order from her at the bar. Just kept saying she didn't know--- FIND OUT! So confused as to why she is in this position... I know it's hard to find good help but she needs some training. Wanted to love the place, and a happy, outgoing bartender would have helped. read more

My husband and I were disappointed. My husband is Hispanic and couldn't believe the quality. The tortillas were not cooked thorough and were almost raw. the rice was crunchy, and the little girl waiting on us acted as if we were a burden. Maybe we went on a bad day. The drinks on the other hand, were amazing! Atmosphere is also a great experience! Food and service, need a little extra. Giving 3 stars for drinks, location, and atmosphere. read more

Overpriced, bad hours. I would say 4 out of the five times we've tried to go there it was closed. The margaritas are good that's about it.

Our server was amazing! The atmosphere is wonderful as well. We got the queso and it was good. The pineapple and cranberry margaritas were GREAT! I got the Birria tacos and I do wish they were more flavorful because they were bland but I would definitely give it another try. My partner got a number of tacos and he said he wishes they had some more flavor too, but they were still good. read more
