If there was such a thing as cheese heaven this place would be it! They have a huge selection of cheeses to choose from. I've never seen so much cheese in my life. They also have a pretty big selection of spices as well among other things. The building itself is really cute too and it's surrounded by a farm. We tried to go to another cheese place in the area and quickly left after seeing that it was a tourist trap. This place was the exact opposite sooooo much better! The employees were friendly and answered any questions that we had. The prices were more than fair. You can't go wrong with this place!

When visiting in May 2021, we were to sad to see they still had no samples. Fortunately we've tried most of the cheeses on previous visits, so we know it's a great place to buy cheese. If you grab the cheese ends, you can get a great deal just because it doesn't look as pretty. In addition to the cheese and fudge shop, there are a lot of other items for sale in the larger portion of the shop. Oh, and it's not always easy to find a public restroom while visiting Amish country, so be sure to hit it up here.

If you're in Amish Country, you'd better move your heinie over to Heini's. It's the generosity of Costco samples with the crowds of a Disney attraction. As you'll notice just by pulling into the parking lot. But yes, the line is worth it. When you enter Heini's, you can grab a shopping cart or basket if you're a good person and plan to actually buy something. If you're broke (check) or just shameless (check), then look to your right towards the refrigerated cheese and fudge section and trace the line back to its end. Even if it looks long, it's worth the wait. Because free. And because so much cheese. And cream cheese. And the sweet ending - fudge heaven. My favorites were the smoked cheeses, pineapple cream cheese, and peanut butter fudge. **The best strategy is to take a partner with you and have someone else get apple butter or peanut butter sauce samples on the pretzel sticks in the various aisles while you wait in line. But please play nice and don't cut the line, and also make way for people actually buying products and Amish girls restocking them!** The middle section of Heini's has an assortment of packaged candies, chocolates, and honey that make great seasonal gifts. No samples here, but the bathrooms are located up a ramp near the entrance so I guess it's important. The women's stalls are not the most sanitary as there's a constant flux of tourists, so just try not to sit on that housefly and wash your hands. Maybe bring some hand sanitizer and Clorox wipes too if you're really a germaphobe. The leftmost section has more samples, this time for more dips. And... SAUSAGE. The sausage line hugs the wall closest to the entrance and is not one to miss if you're at all carnivorous! Heini's also offers tours of the factory that you can sign up for at a table in the left section, but as there was no cheesemaking going on when we went, we didn't take advantage of it. I guess a return trip is necessary!

This place is SOOO cool. The fact that you get to try out all of the cheeses they offer as well as several of the other items, jams, butters, fudge, etc. That made the experience even better and totally had me buying more things than I planned to. The ghost pepper cheese was HOT, but of course we bought some to share with family that enjoys spicy food. The fudge was also amazing and we ended up buy 3 different kinds, chocolate, peanut butter chocolate, and maple pecan fudge. I also loved that they offered old fashioned candy (so we bought some) and they even had some of the handmade baskets made by the local Amish that I ended up purchasing. This place was really fun and a must stop if you are in the area. I was really happy we stopped.

    Cheese!

Garlic Herb, Yogurt, Jalapeno, Raw Milk, American, Swiss, Nutty Pecan, Chocolate Peanut Butter, Blueberry Cheesecake, Orange Pineapple, Rainbow Sherbet, Tomato Garlic, Cheddar Bacon, Moon, Spicy Chili, Chocolate, Chocolate Nut, Coconut Chocolate, Smoked Hot Pepper, Lacey, Goat Milk, Hot Pepper, Vidalia Onion... What do all these things have in common? They are all delicious cheeses at Heini's! I don't even think I listed half of them here. They must have at least 50 cheeses out for sample at their Cheese Chalet, and you can bet your ass I tried every single one of them. Free lunch! The best ones for me, were the dessert cheeses. Weird I know, but chocolate peanut butter cheese is one of the best things I have ever tasted! This place is run by Amish women, and they are all less than friendly, but who cares! They give out free cheese! There is also a gift shop attached with all kinds of stuff to buy. They also have a candy shop, but screw candy - I want my cheese!

This seemed a little incongruous to me...

Our second cheese shop stop, and a fun one. Thankfully it wasn't crazy busy; I would hate to fight crowds in here. It's broken down into several areas, and traffic flow would be chaotic. But on a late Saturday afternoon it wasn't too bad, and we loved wandering around looking at all the items. Cheese is the big draw, and they have a lot, with plenty of samples. Ended up getting a couple of kinds, and some jerky. There are lots of windows so you can watch cheese being made (unfortunately not while we were there.) Other areas have candy, some dry ingredients, souvenirs, cookbooks, etc. We got some candy and a bunch of cookie cutters- they have a wide variety, and they're cheap. Sweetie has plans for them. Plenty of parking, but go slow and be careful- it can be hard to get in and out.

    Jon B.

We stopped in here during COVID so we lost out on all the free samples that everyone raves about. It was still a fun place to stop. Plenty of different types of cheese to choose from.

The best place to buy my cheese is a lot of different savors, and the most exciting thing is tasting all the samples--yes, samples are back.

My friends really wanted to visit the Guggisberg cheese factory but they were closed for the day. This store offers not only cheese but other smaller grocery and household items such as butter, apple butter, mugs, t-shirts, etc. I don't like cheese so I didn't buy any cheese. My friends may have bought small cheese blocks but I can't remember. They did sample some cheese which they liked. MY PURCHASES -- I bought an Italian bread dipping mix which is a small tin of herbs. I finally tried the dip in April 2026 by adding olive oil the dipping bread in it. The spice mix is too strong so I don't like it that much and I don't believe it was made locally. I also bought Apple butter which is locally made and tastes good. The Apple butter is too sweet for me though so I've hardly eaten it but it goes well with toast. If you're in the area, stop by this local store. The back of the store is cute because of a little fountain and a well-kept lawn. **** GOAL of 250 reviews in 2026 - 87/250 total reviews in 2026 - 928 total Yelp reviews - Reviewed on 19 May 2026

The deli where you can get freshly sliced cheese is in the back. The clerks were extremely friendly answering questions and providing samples of anything you want to try. Much like the outside, the inside continues the swiss theme. The reason I gave it four instead of five stars is the space itself. It was really congested even though it wasn't really all that crowded. I can't imagine what it would be like on a busier day. J don't know what, if anything can be done about this that, but it definitely can be hard yo navigate if you have mobility issues or don't like crowds. Oh and the cheese hats are a fun nice touch.

It was dipped in a vat of butter and had just the right amount of salt. The cheddar cheese sauce that I ordered on the side paired perfectly with it (tasting better than the highly processed nacho cheese sauce, but they have that as option too). I also tried the cinnamon sugar pretzel, which was delicious and had a generous coating of it, but I still like the traditional more. But the workers are nice about it. So it's fine. First floor you can order food and then eat it outside or in the patio area. Hot dogs are good. You can also get ice cream and sides like onion rings. All prices are pretty average for a cafe. The other part of the first floor are savory snacks and soups, jerky, dips, pretzels, popcorn, crackers, jelly's, teas and such. You can try it all. Prices are about mediocre. Not cheap but not outrageous. Upstairs are all the cheeses, dressing, sausages, jarred condiments. Again you can get a taste of most anything. Cheeses are from all over the world and all types spicy, sharp, dill, bacon, champagne, almost anything you can think of. Prices are more expensive than Giant Eagle, Trader Joe's, Aldi's and most stores. But the combination of cheese flavors are pretty unique. Something you can't just get at those other stores. And think of it as a treat. You're not going to buy that cheese every week. So a treat is nice. Overall it is a fun experience for the whole family. We didn't go to the chocolate Sweeties side. But I am sure that is amazing too. You can eat at the cafe, buy some snacks, treats and cheese. It's fun and you don't do this every day. At least that's how I look at it. $50 dollars later. LOL! I did buy some treats as gifts too. So that is another option to consider.

I didn't get to try any because everyone was right there waiting for the bacon to be done so they could get their sample.
