We serve children and adults with a wide variety of communicative disorders. Our specialties include work with people who have apraxia, dysarthria and other speech production disorders, stuttering, strokes & brain injuries, other cognitive challenges, auditory processing disorders, reading and written language difficulties, and social language needs. We are known for our Team collaborations with families, doctors, teachers, and other professionals. Our evaluations reports are thorough and provide realistic and functional recommendations to assist our clients in succeeding with their speech, cognitive, and language needs. Herb's social language programs are highly successful with classrooms and individuals, and his materials will be ready for sale later this year. History
Established in 1986.
Our practice began with Joanne as a solo practitioner, serving adults and children. In the mid 1990's Joanne's husband Herb joined the practice. We specialize in high-quality evaluations and treatment of adults and children with a wide variety of communication disorders. And in 2018, Herb introduced his multisensory social literacy program, Growing G.R.E.E.N. InterActions.
Meet the Business Owner: Joanne H.
Joanne Hein has been a practicing Speech-Language Pathologist for over 35 years. She received her B.S. in Speech Pathology from Ithaca College in 1974, and her M.S. in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of N. Carolina in 1976. Joanne's early professional experience includes providing clinical speech-language services to six Head Start preschool sites (Durham N.C.), and running a classroom for language-impaired children (San Luis Obispo CA). Also provided clinically-based therapy to children at Children's Hospital (Oceanside CA). As one of the founding Board of Directors of the SD Brain Injury Foundation, she worked with survivors of traumatic brain injuries. Since founding Hein SLP in 1986, Joanne continues to work with nearly every type of communicative disorder, providing evaluation and therapy to children of all ages, and adults who have suffered from strokes, brain injuries, and life-long processing & learning challenges. Joanne maintains membership with CSHA & ASHA.
